hmm, I can see how he might be good making star wars....

but that is not what I expect from star trek. I mean the ship clip.

The clip with talking on the bridge. I just don't see why there needs to be so much light and lens flare etc.

it's not practical, how can anybody work in an environment with so much glare?

saw a full extended clip of this in the cinema today before seeing another movie, have to say that i've got a raging hardon for it now, can't wait for it to be released.

Screw the glare.  This is a classic Trek scene.  They are playing out a moral dilemma right there!

They're trying to save a planet by putting out a volcano, but one of them might sacrifice his own life.  They might be able to rescue him if they risk causing war (or whatever primitives seeing the ship will do).  Doing this is against the rules also.  So should they save the life of one whom was in the midst of saving countless primitive lives even if it means risking those lives in another way?

Isn't this dramatic dilemma more important than a little lens flare?

I'm with you Guyverfan, I'm all in.  Can't wait

I don't know if I can take that seriously.

I have plenty of reasons to dislike it. I can't deny the drama of course. it is the foundation of star trek and I must say it's about time there was something actually true to star trek in JJ abrams film. perhaps he pulled it back with this film, but I won't be giving him my money for it. he burnt me too badly with the first one.

Just got back from seeing it, and daaaaamn.  Nice.

A lot of twists and turns, and definitely dealing with going after terrorists, going so far as to make a 911 dedication in the end.  And so many characters from the original time line coming in on the story, even Carol.  I like all the emotional moments in the story, when characters test each other, and question right and wrong.  Very well done.

I like Abrams novel style of film making.  He shows you enough so that you know what is going to happen for a special effect, but cuts away at the last moment so that you can imagine the pinnacle moment.  He lets you use your minds eye, so that your imagination makes it even bigger, using the effects department to build it up.  Very classy.  Don't get me wrong, still effects laden, but done in a way that most people wouldn't.  Most effects artists try to show everything, going point for point as if we are children that need every second explained to us.  Abrams maintains an excellent balance, perhaps one that is perfected with experience.  Let's hope he can maintain it.

And yes, there is lens flare.  I think I noticed him using it as actors use blinking.  It is almost always at the beginning of a shot or scene, like punctuation.  Interesting

i liked this also, its been in the cinema's for a month now so i think its safe to say 'KAHHHHHHN'

loved how they introduced the charactor agian, and we might see him again!

the special effects, story line, actors and acting were great, but there was acouple let downs for me.

one was the scene on the klingon planet, would of been nice if they spent alittle more time and money so the props and rocks didn't look like they were made out of cardboard. still had the on stage in a studio feel.

also, the reactor room could of been alittle better.......it could be just me?

overall though, it was ok and i liked it

Since spoilers are now in the offing, I liked finally seeing a Dreadnaught class starship in something other than a fanfic.  And the involvement of Section 31?  I didn't see that one coming.  My wife thinks Spock is cute.  She keeps asking me now to watch the old ones again.  I think I'm getting pointy ears for Christmas, hehe

There was some fan outcry about the movie though. The pointless eye candy scene of that chick in underwear, and the fact that the main villian, is not even a Sikh like he's supposed to be. Actually, acting aside, his motives are rather forced.

Was Khan defined by being Sikh?  Was that what made him who he is?  Kind of discriminatory, in my opinion.  I mean, wasn't it a Cuban that played him originally?  That's like saying it has to be a Canadian or American to play Wolverine.  And what about his motives are forced?  Just curious on that one, not really sure.

Part two of that review (with spoilers) points out that her in underwear shows that Kirk does have interest in Carol Marcus.  Though I think everyone agrees the shot went on for too long.  The editor should have cut it down a little.

Lol yeah, it's funny they wine about the Sikh thing since he was played originally by Ricardo Montalbán who was Mexican. I'm just pointing out the controversy, heck people called star trek sexist against women for that scene. But hasn't Star trek always used it's sex appeal, how many shirtless Kirk moments and female seductions have we endured in the past?

Moving on. His motives in the original stemmed from a lot of reasons. He didn't seem to have any real reason to destroy a populated area. It's as if they wanted him to do so just so he can be a villainous arse..

surprisingly, I just saw this movie for the first time today.  I liked it.  I have to admit, it was a lot less boring than the other Picard movies that came out.  I don't analyze much, as long as I like what I see, I just let it be.  Interesting how that classic line "Khaaaaaaaan!!!!!!" was uttered by someone else.  Now that's a twist.
