January 8, 201313 yr Anyone remember the brutal death of Guyver 1 at the hands of the original Enzyme in the OVA? I still cannot help but cry while watching that particular episode, especially the English dubbed version! Tom Fahn did an amazing job voicing Sho during his final moments.
January 8, 201313 yr Author I did not tear up much during the OVA Enzyme II fight. but I sure as hell did during the TV anime one! The final parting words that Fumio Fukamachi passed on to his son almost brought me to my knees. The anime really did justice to Sho's father. I am damn proud of the anime!
January 8, 201313 yr Death of Guyver 1 was the most amazing event in all media which I watched in my childhood. That was the first time I watched the main hero was so screwed.
January 8, 201313 yr it was a great scene i thought whats going on he should be dead how is he surviving excellent stuff for the time it came out.
January 9, 201313 yr Death of Guyver 1 was the most amazing event in all media which I watched in my childhood. That was the first time I watched the main hero was so screwed. Yeah seriously, I was like 9 years old when I first saw that fight. Sho's death and revival remained fresh in my memory to this day. That kind of desperation and brutality just wasn't something you saw in cartoons back then. It was those 2 episodes that got me really invested into not only Guyver, but anime and Japanese culture in general.
January 9, 201313 yr Even though I had a feeling Sho was going to regenerate, I saw the American movie, it was still hard to watch. A close second is the anime death of Fumio.
January 9, 201313 yr Yeah seriously, I was like 9 years old when I first saw that fight. Sho's death and revival remained fresh in my memory to this day. That kind of desperation and brutality just wasn't something you saw in cartoons back then. It was those 2 episodes that got me really invested into not only Guyver, but anime and Japanese culture in general. when I saw the preview for that episode I felt guyver was getting boring and I planned to not watch it. my brother pushed me into it and I never looked back. I was hooked. That death never got me that emotional though. not like mentioned above. Fumio in the tv series. That almost kills me. tv series may have done badly at the first death of guyver to enzyme 1 but the second 'death' to enzyme 2 was incredibly well done.
January 11, 201313 yr I never teared up during the first enzyme fight, but goddamn, Tom Charles' screams making me sad as hell. he really makes that fight emotional for me. i haven't watched the tv series in so long, i don't remember whether i got emotional at the enzyme 2 situation, but i get a bit of a lump in my throat in the ova when there is a short flashback to sho regaining consciousness after the battle.
February 3, 201313 yr The IVA was an outright merciless defeat of the guyver, and that episode, they really went all out with the gore, horror elements, and animation. It actually disturbed me a little, since Sho was screaming in pain, and at one point after having been stabbed with the tail, he was whimpering! How many heroes in a series do you see whimpering in battle as they face death? That's what makes Sho such a good human character, he's only an average person forced into heroics. The TV series was such a let down in comparison, animation, gore, and acting wise. Sure it's cleaner than the OVA, but doesn't hold a stick to the originals presentation. It got willy when Enzyme was bitch slapping Guyver.... really? Slapping?!
February 3, 201313 yr I agree. I'm still surprised how little gore the new series has compared to the old one. I saw nothing that stopped them from putting it in, especially if you look at more recent series like Hellsing, Elfen Lied, and Gantz. The only thing that makes me like the new series more is the fact that it's much more closer to the manga.
