I'm really sorry that I sorta ruined it for you though I didn't quite spoil an specifics other then it being a filler. The next 2 arcs are much more intresting and aren't filler, thoguh they seem to go by real fast.

no mind.

it seems he was gone before i even realised it anyway!

i didn't tink much of him to be honest but it is true that it was a shame he did not get enough screen time for you.

now i got past that one.

now i'm watching sasuke and he just got that sword for the water guy.

this is interesting.

although i would prefer to see what naruto is up to.

hmm? i never noticed.

and now it seems this may be past anyway...

i got the impression it would be the sasuke show for about 20 episodes or something. but it seems we have naruto action after just 2 or 3 eps.

not sure how it goes after here but maybe it's nnot as i was led to believe. ^_^

now the episode i just watched is the best evvaarr.

so that is how a non-uchiha gets a sharingan.

yeah, it was the Kakashi Gaiden. It was a short story before even Shippuden came out in the manga and in anime format. people were expecting that plot arc to come out first, but it only showed up recently. it was a pleasant surprise to finally have it on screen. Well worth the wait since i loved it.

Also ,you should check out the third Shippuuden movie. It's the first good Naruto movie we've had in years, and it really references everything that has happened in the show so far up to that plot arc you finished. I expected it to suck horribly, but instead it was incredibly fun to watch, so try to catch it if you care to.

not unless it is a vital part of the story following the manga.

anyway, a lot seems to have happened.

ero-sennin is dead... [emote=onion]nofair[/emote]

a very much loved character. I was kind of expecting it but i hoped it didn't have to happen. why does naruto series have such love of making people die?

I believe the series does that to characters because it's more meotional and also because it's more realistic. What fun is a show if all the major characters didn't get seriously injured or kill? We may hate it, but it does add more seriousness to the characters.

that is the skill of the naruto series.

in many series, we have the main character and the series focuses mainly on them and the rest are just secondary characters, not too developed.

but in naruto, the other characters all seem to be incredibly well developed.

the beauty is that they get just as much if not more development and screen time as naruto himself. of course we always know the main character cannot die. we know naruto cannot die. but as for all the other characters... they are not safe.

they can die. and they do.

it's a very good story telling style. although of course makes it tough for the viewer to watch at times. very emotional.

up to this point, i can say this is unlike any other anime i ever saw. i think of other anime as 'lesser' than this. like not as good. in this respect i won't consider naruto as 'anime', rather i will consider it as a great story that happens to be anime. the depth of this is even surpassing a final fantasy game and it is very rare for any anime series to have that kind of depth.

preach it brother!!!! it is different from any other anime ive seen... when choji took on that shinobi himself it killed it for me (which means its good if im being obscure)its like - can this show get any doper??? and the answer was a resounding yes! the fighting styles, the characters the emotional content,it just got better and better in so many ways along the way...even the incidental music and theme music - Bacchikoi , Bacchikoi baby -yeah!- yeah!

i think of other anime as 'lesser' than this.

brutal but most probably true - truth told i dont follow other anime or much manga anymore - cant be bothered, so i didnt really have a gauge against other modern anime ( i mean kind of post samurai champloo- awesome btw) so i was thinking do i think this is one of the greatest anime ever because i havent been watching other stuff , has other anime got this good?? its nice to hear someone else bigging up naruto for being something 'special'...well it is to me anyway... i love Takaya for Guyver but aslo a big thanks to Masashi Kishimoto!!!

Naruto gush over

Naruto easily raised the bar when it comes to story telling and treatment of characters (as far as a "popular" series has). I mean, bleach is also awesome, has great plots and character development just like naruto... but it fails to kill off many characters aside from the villain. To this day, as far as the manga goes, I think there has only been two deaths in the good guys department, and one was in a flashback. Oh course this is not counting the fillers, in comparison it's pretty tame in the portrayal of the gravity of death, ironically, in a series all about death. Though Bleach has much more gruesome battles then Naruto... occasionally you see dismemberment and horrible deaths, but bleach goes all out in making their characters suffer physically without actually killing them.

Naruto is just one of the animated series that kids should see despite the violence because it delivers morals with a great plot. If only American and European animated programs would catch up to this level of maturity.

I mean, right in the beginning of gargoyles, you see a big massacre of the Gargoyle brood, but then as the series goes, they only kill a couple more characters (not counting illusions). Everyone else lives, despite them probably having deaths give characters more of an impact. So we quickly loose that grounded sense of reality.

Then there was also Exosquad, my god... they killed so many characters off including hundreds of nonames and dozens of lesser developed characters. I nearly wept as some great characters die and cheer for the bad ones that did. They actually would of killed off at least two more characters from the main cast but the producers wouldn't allow out of fear of loosing a popular toy line character. But even that was lessened because when they did kill some characters, a few would be brought back as clones. This sorta cheapened the experience for me as a kid. When General Shiva died in front of Human children that he despised, they cried and buried him with rocks. I was haunted by the scene and the message of wars stupidity was very clear. Yet they brought him back and ruined the experience for me a bit. They did kill Nara burn's brother off, first by blasting off his arm and leg, and an eye, then eventually he later tried rescuing a character that he had racist attitudes for but eventually died, and of course that one did made me want to cry as a kid. Thank fully that death wasn't cheapened with a clone.

And Finally, all batman from the 90 and til now... well not counting the latest "The Batman" (which is not up to snuff). That series had impact even without killing characters. Yet, when you did see a character get ruined or "possibly" killed, it was suspenseful and sad. Like the scene with clayface falling into the ocean, very sad even though he tried to kill batman. Also to this day, the episode with Barbera's dream sequence of being killed by the Scarecrow is so badass. Although it's a dream sequence, it was so shocking, emotional, and dramatic, that I could not keep my eyes off the episode. It was that awesome, and they only got away with doing that because it was a dream. If Batman stuck to it's comic book drama a bit more, then there wouldn't be any budget constraints placed on the series since at that point it would appeal to every age group with the plot alone. It's one of the few series with violence that you don't focus not so much on the violence, but on how the villains relationship with Gotham and Batman in a distorted existence.

Well american animation grows up, there will be little need for a series like Naruto, one that makes you appreciate the people you do have around, well at least the ones you have in the naruto universe.

killing (main)characters despite how much the audience has attached emotion to them is a brave move in any story especially in a series like Naruto, yes some characters are more important than others but it seems that Narutro is more than Uzamaki himself , the sum parts of this series does create an overall greater whole and if too many parts were to go it wouldnt be as good - in some cases i think narutos creator is too brutal! but then again just another reason why its so damn good.

i tried watching bleach when they aired it on a manga channel on satellite in the uk (Which exsisited for not very long) and it seamed a little.. meh, to me, i understand its quite popular but it didnt grab me.

its funny you mentioned about the violence vguyver,in the beginning of mangas mainstream emergence in the west, it seemed as if the japanese were bloodthirsty crazies until you find out about all the different genres of manga

i'll admit that the violence used to be an attracting factor for me i think its ingrained in us through action shows and films that we thought were cool as we grew up and the ultraviolence in anime just seemed even cooler! but nowadays im not into that ultaviolence (despite loving HNK and Baki), i dont need to see dismemberments/ disembowelments/ decapitations to have a good time

Naruto is just one of the animated series that kids should see despite the violence because it delivers morals with a great plot. If only American and European animated programs would catch up to this level of maturity.

good point, im not sure that america or europe could ever do as good as what japan produces even in marvel/d.c.they come from two different cultures, and if they did it will be because its been influenvced by the kids nowadays who are growing up with stuff like naruto.

speaking of morals i understand the morals are interwoven in the plot more subtly in naruto etc but you have to give it to the American n european shows such as He-Man and Thundercats, where they had morals - they were blatantly in your face, but at least they were there!i still think that those were awesome shows. i reckon that if 90's kids had 80's cartoons society wouldnt be quite so bad now, biggest thing they had was TMNT for f's sake  catmen n catwomen in pants could be all our moral saviours!

What's unique about Naruto is that the main character is not the center of focus in the story telling. It should be retitled as the "legends of the Leaf Village" or something to that effect. I'm impatient so I don't watch the animated version, but grab the latest manga chapter as soon as its released. So far, Naruto has kept my attention, but for Bleach, although I'm still faithfully following the title, I'm starting to lose interest, as the dragon ball effect is starting to be noticeable. Unlike Naruto, in every chapter of bleach, the power levels continue to go up. Sooner or later, they'll eventually reach the Deus Ex Machina. Sure in Naruto, they get much more powerful, but this is due to training and honing their own skills. Not increasing their chakra to insane amounts. Even since the beginning, only Naruto is capable of doing this due to the nine tails power. But for the rest, you really gotta admire the battle strategies being used. Fighting is all about skills and not about power.

Posted

I have to agree. Naruto remains interesting because he isn't or should I say wasn't a very powerful character except as Kyubi for the majority of the series. Now he's turned around and started to become a powerful character. Bleach does suffer from the DBZ effect of having way too many powered up characters. The main Villian is practically Broli. Since he's been fairly powerful and the very start, and getting absurdly powerful since. His antics get slightly tiresome as a result, especially as his allies simply fall behind, suffering from the Z Warriors effect. Brad, my favorite character in Bleach, is pretty much Piccollo after the cell saga. Naruto doesn't do this to any of the characters. In fact, all of the characters surpassed Naruto in both skill and rank at one point. The one thing that bleach does justice to in it's main character though is that he's actualy smart and gets good greads. Naruto, sadly, may as well have his brain replaced with a cucumber in hte old series. In hte new One Naruto is much more competent, though it takes a while for anything to seem into that skull, despite Sakura "pounding" her intuition into him.

well even up to now... isn't naruto still a genin?

i don't see any sign of that changing either.

he is so wrapped up in missions that they don't seem to get the chance to actually put him through the exams.

Posted

After Naruto defeats the zombie duo of Akatsuki, Kakashi regards him as an equal. Once he begins training again, his Genin Rank no longer reflects his skills. You'll be shocked later down the road when you finally get to the Pain arc. Besides, Naruto get's lots of special treatment when compared to other nin in his village, it's a miracle he hasn't been put away under lock and key for all of his insubordination.

Posted

Well, regarding Naruto's rank as a Genin, it isn't really determined on how powerful you are, but determined on how you think during battle. In the chuunin exam, even though Naruto defeated Neji, and didn't even lose once, he wasn't promoted to Gennin. Also, a great example is Shikamaru, he lost, yet he is the only one of Naruto's peers to ever get promoted to chuunin. With all things considered, I think that the current Naruto has matured enough to pass that condition.

Posted

yeah naruto would probably become a juunin. i say probably, because he is still pretty reckless.

i think a lot of the time he gets lucky. but since a very big event that i spoiler'd up there.. i actually think naruto will start to mature somewhat. i am hoping that he will train under the 2 sages.

favourite akatsuki?

has to be itachi. very special reason for that... you'd have to be fairly up to date to understand why.

i'll spoiler it here -

i started to suspect that he wasn't evil incarnate a while back. before sasuke started to get close to him, i considered whether or not he actually slaughtered the uchiha in cold blood or rather if he had a very good reason for doing it. that perhaps he had a big burden. that perhaps his motives were more just than we had been led to believe.

p.s. I'm about ten episodes behind.

Posted

Well, Ryuki, considering that Itachi slaughtered the Uchiha's and left Sasuke alive definitely leaves one to speculate as to why.

Regarding naruto, I'm thinking that his final clash with Sasuke will be the biggest trigger to his behavioural change. Recently, even though he is still reckless, he has shown more maturity as he continues with his battles.

Spoiler warning for Ryuki, do not read as this has not happened yet in the anime

When Naruto finally met Sasuke during the invasion of the Kage's Summit, Sasuke changed into a psycho and Naruto fully understood how he should deal with Sasuke. And that the next time they meet, will be a battle to the death.

Posted

ok i shan't read it , let me know when it happens in the anime and i can look.

well now i am up to date!

i just watched episode 160 last night.

and i have subscribed to takasubs twitter feed so i'll be able to keep up to date with it.

so...

I was a bit pissed off with what happened to kakashi.

that is cheap. so soon after jiraiya.. I'm sorry, I'm not buying it.

I won't accept it. if they try and pass this off as real, I'm really gonna lose some respect for the series.

i guess i'll have to wait and see for now. since the anime is now up to date and is released weekly. I have to make do with 1 episode per week. ack.

you have to at least appreciate how much of a beast Pain is. There hasn't been a villain like him in quite some time, he's fairly shocking, maybe a bit overpowered... but he's got some very original abilities. Actually, his multi-body eyesight thing is strangely reminiscent of something we'd see in Guyver. Maybe Masashi Kishimoto should switch to a scifi setting in a future manga.

Posted

i decided that i like the anime of naruto so much that i would watch it even if i knew the story, so i have started reading the manga.

so I'm not sure how i can use this thread now if people are not keeping up with the manga?

well my views on manga versus anime.

manga is confusing in many places.

there are times when i look at a panel and trying to figure out exactly what it's supposed to be.

times when the story is not very clear because the drawings are quite quick and aren't paced well.

one scene can skip to another without any real indication. it's after reading this, i really appreciate the fine work that yoshiki takaya does on guyver.

guyver is always very clear on what is going on. so while it's great to know the story and the manga is very good, the anime is far superior since it pads out the characters, fills in the movements in the fights and paces it very well.
