2005 Guyver or 1989 Guyver?

Featured Replies

Which of the 2 anime series did you like better?

The 2005, 26 episode, series was my favorite over the old anime series from the 80's. I felt like it was more true to the manga, despite a little bit of the filler episodes, and I was able to get to learn about the characters better.

I liked the 2005 series because it continued the story.  Ambiance-wise, I prefer the 80's, which really captured the essence of the Manga.  The 2005 series was sorta kiddie proofed, despite it being broadcast on Wowow which is somewhat of an equivalent to Adult Swim.

I have it on Blu Ray and they do use language. But the blood is sometimes shaded out in the animation. Then you have some episodes where there's a lot of blood. But I wouldn't go so far to say that it's bloodier. There's anime that I've watched that was more violent. I felt Claymore and Hellsing Ultimate were more violent than the 2005 anime was.

The 1989 series was the first anime I watched and got me in to it all. I probably like both as much as each other, it's all guyver after all.

Depends.

The 1989 OAV is great, at least for the first 6 episodes, to bring new people into Guyver. The violence and short story works and flows well. Great music too (original dub or Japanese Subbed)

The 2005 series is great for all the added and expanded content. The original manga wasn't well written and needed an update. As a fan of the lore I loved it... But for new fans, it really wasn't anything special to bring them into the fandom ( I always rail against the marketing for it. Such a terrible decision).
