it's called Celtic mythology so covers all of ancient Britain.

it's by geddes & grosset.

it does go into more specifics about various things and much of the ancient writings actually come more from Ireland than from my area because they were less effected by the Romans.

it's how they cross checked many of the more accepted facts.

about that homeless guy,

I've decided my actions did not benefit him because it encourages him to remain in his position.

If he thinks he can survive at the bottom of society he will continue as he is doing.

I would rather not give beggars anything and in so doing, motivate them to raise their position.

thanks durendal.

I think what i would like to do...

in the future perhaps i can actually offer to take him for a cup of tea.

I don't wish to give any money to homeless people, but if he asks me for a cup of tea, then perhaps i can take him and buy a cup of tea and sit down with him.

maybe he would appreciate the warmth of company more than the warmth of the tea.

I got an asterix book. since the ancient gaul was pretty much the same culture as ancient briton.

I'm pretty sure Gaul was the old name for France/Belgium, which around the same time Britain/Briton was referred to as either Albion or Loegria...I'm not too sure...But you mentioned culture, so they probably were the same despite the Channel separating them :/

Posted

yep :)

I've heard the name Albion. that is derived from Irish sources I think.

it's possible that the name Briton is more sourced from the Romans.

I've not done a lot of research on where the different names are sourced.

Posted

Yeah...it would be difficult to keep track of since they change all the time, though in some cases you're lucky to have the present day name somewhat related to the original, e.g. London = Londinium as dubbed by the Romans, whereas in India's case Mumbai = Bombay and that was decided a few years/decades ago :/

I did a bit of reading, and Albion is so far the oldest recorded, while Loegria is a variant of the Latinisation of the Welsh term for parts of the English region. To be honest, I quite like it, it's somewhat romantic in a way since it's the name used to refer to King Arthur's England and I love those legends, which also stemmed from Celtic Myth :)

Perhaps Briton is more sourced from the Romans, but I seem to remember that at the time it may have also have been referred to as Anglii...unless that was just England...

Oh! I just remembered, I came across this Latin joke that was told by a visiting Roman Priest around the time the Romans occupied Briton/England. He asked his aide who the natives were, because he found them to be beautiful with their blond hair and blue eyes, and his aide replied that the people were called Angles, the Priest then said "Non Anglii, sed Angeli!" or something to that effect, but its meant to translate as "Not Angles, but Angels!" It's a terrible joke, but I find it to be a good pun...

It's interesting how the Roman name has existed, even today - (English) England = Angle Land; (French) Angleterre = Land of Angles (if broken literally)...2000+ years is a long time for something to stick around; especially in culture.

i guess things are not that great at the moment ^^;

apart from some unfortunate happenings on line, there have been some unfortunate turn of events at home too.

I've lost friends, been pushed into a corner, find some of my volunteer work to be less rewarding. we get less students and feeling like it is unproductive.

my own business plans are not going too well. but that is my own responsiobility.

i was gonna do my family tree but found out that i simply can't get the records.

my videos just not gettting much attention and i'm wondering if it's actually helpful to anyone.

all this things...

and i don't feel too bad.

it's a rather positive experience to have so much stuff going on and while i can feel a little stressed in some ways... i can actually keep a positive attitude.

perhaps my manner is coming across a bit different to how i would like. maybe some of my words are seeming rash or nasty somehow. I'm not sure if i can help that and just hope that people don't feel that i am being nasty.

I didn't think i was but then i may have overreacted to some people in a few places.

i'm not sure it's hard to tell sometimes.

of course, i said i do feel more positive than i would expect to be and so i try and make sure my posts are as positive s i can make them.

i guess i'm learning to deal with situations a lot better.

when i can say life is good. i think that ereally counts for something.

Sorry to hear that man. Some times nothing seems to work right. We just have to keep on trying, and if you can maintain your positive out look it'll make it alot easier to cope. Its unfortunate that alot of us can just hope things get better, without being able too do much to actualy help you... but if there is something you need then just ask. I'll do my best to help.

thanks :)

wel it's this dyslexia just makes it so hard to get around to doing the things that i know really need to be done.

I have a specification document to write to send the the intellectual property office. I'm bugging out about it.. I think i need to grab my mum to help me write it.

Posted

Yeah I have that same problem with writing. It sort of kills my desire to do so as I know the shear number of mistakes will be very disheartening. Spellchecks dont often help as sometimes I mangle a word so bad it's got no clue what I'm saying.

Give your mum a phone and ask her to help you out. Make it this week or as soon as she is free, that way you have to do it.

Do it! dont make me astral project over there and annoy your cat!

ha ha,

well my mum lives here. so I just have to walk into the other room.

but anyway, my dsylexia is a different type.

I can type in realtime, whatever is in my mind at this moment, I can type it no problem.

when I have a large piece of writing to do and I know I need to plan it out and phrase it well, that is when the trouble comes. because I cant hold that amount of data in my mind while typing.

Also, I'm pretty particular about my posting. my spelling always has to be right and my punctuation is always considered along with my paragraphs etc.

I'm still pretty bad with my capitalisation actually. never got the hang of that.

so actually, I just went into the other room and said "help me!".

to be honest i don't need much. I dictated to her what i wanted her to write and she typed it.

we got about half of it done before she needed to go out.

It's always remarkable to me how easy it is to write these things when i have somebody typing for me.

it's like the sun coming out from behind the clouds.

I remember I had a scribe for one or two tests at school. I cranked out work realy fast that way. Unfortunatly the structure suffered as it was basicly just popping into my head, I was saying it and she was typing it. I think two write storys I'd need to blurt it all out first. Then structure it properly, then correct all the gramar and spelling.

Still that was suprisingly easy... I was expecting to have to do some more motivating there, but you dont need much help at all really.

Bummer about your friend though. You think he can bounce back? Or maybe it wont be as bad as it seems.

Posted

Thats cool dude there is no need to feel like you are spilling someone elses personal details or breaking their privacy. Thats all we need to know really.

If you think that some focus and dedication can rectify certain things then just try and add encouragment. I'm sure you are doing that already though. Just be there for them, its all you can do.

Posted

Ah... well that sucks. Best to try and not let it get too you. Sometimes if you fall out with a friend who's going through a bad patch it seems there is nothing you can do to help, you just have to watch them self destruct. Some people are too stubourn to accept help.

In some situations, all you need is time. When the wounds are still fresh, it is difficult to cope. But adding to what steel said, it depends on the acceptance level of a person. If the passive method doesn't work, then use shock therapy. :D

But to help you with your situation, just think of how karma works. The worst situation you are in at the moment, the better things will turn out for you eventually.

ok,

sorry i edited my posts a little, it might not make 100% sense but i was unsure if i should leave them how they were.

anyone who has me on facebook would have been aware of something that has effected our family recently.

I can't really talk about it and there is nothing on there now that would reveal anything.

but no doubt some of you guys will know about it.

I just think it'd best if it not be mentioned.

today I decided to cook ramen.

I looked for a recip and found one.

I went to town and i bought two huge bowls. you need big bowls for ramen.

i bought 1 leek, 1 carrot, 1 spring onion and a bulb of garlic. then i bought a chicken breast. then i went to another shope and bought some soy sauce and dry egg noodles.

then i went to another shop and bought chicken stock cubes, eggs, mushrooms .

all in all it was very heavy.

when i got back home and i was cooking it, it was actually relatively easy.

I smelled it and i recognised the smell from 3 years ago in tokyo.

wow, lovely!

so now i have a bowl of ramen, just like what i had in tokyo.

it is such a treat.

Opera mobile is awesome.

I wouldn't use it on my pc, but it is just brilliant on my phone.

I can say goodbye to that cursed nokia browser. that thing was inherently unstable for cripes sake.

I sold my xbox 360 today.

i have grown tired of it sitting behind my tv untouched.

don't get me wrong, there are some good games on the system.

i had a few games that I wanted to play but i just never got round to it.

it's just too much hassle getting the remote to switch channels on my tv and unplugging and plugging things in, fiddling with network wires, being essentially disconnected from my pc and the net.

each time i switch from my pc to my xbox i feel like i'm, walking into a padded cell.

shame.

oh well. now i have a nintendo DS.

I bought legend of zelda and the phantom hour glass and i bought cooking guide.

played a fair bit of each today and really enjoyed it.

alas it is not that simple.

I only have a set amount of electrical plug sockets.

A lan switch takes power. The router is already at capcity connected to all computers in the family.

Then the 360 uses component cables and my pc connects via hdmi. My monitor is not exceptional ant takes time to switch av input.

I'd like to get a dedicated pc monitor. Might be able to soon.

Also, in the future, i could get a new model 360 with wireless adapter built in.
