Matt Bellamy Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I finally understand why critics gave this one a low overall score. IMO, easily the worst of the three films. There was far too much going on, nothing was ever really very deeply developed. Like always, the CG was amazing, and SOME of the fights were cool (NOT including the last fight...), but overall I found the movie very lacking. They tried to make you feel for Sandman... but really, not enough time is spent on him, and his case doesn't really mean anything to the viewer ( unlike Doc Ock in #2). And the final scene with him, reminded me of "Absorbing Dad" from The Hulk movie... just far too over the top, and corny if you ask me. Although Thomas Haden Church sure looked good in the role. Topher Grace looked a lot better than he did on "That 70's Show", but he wasn't a very imposing Venom. The Peter/Mary Jane relationship parts were pretty decent... but that's because they took up a good part of the movie, so actually had time to be explored. Harry Osborn... kinda makes you wish his butler was a bit more quick in letting him know what really happened. His suit and glider were pretty cool. Just a shame all the conflicts in the movie, save for Sandman, were mostly just petty childish hatred. Although his was a bit more believable than Eddie Brocks reasons. Bruce Campbells role was pretty funny. Got a tiny bit more screen time, and was funny in pretty much all of it. Overall, even with it's long running time, it still didn't have enough time to properly handle all they tried to put into the one movie. Quote
thanosfan82586 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I have to agree with you Matt. Spiderman 3 is a somewhat average movie that unfortunately followed the fantastic previous two installments. I loved the first two, but I found myself even cringing at the sheer ridiculousness of some of the scenes (Let's do the twist... ). It's unfortunate how little time was spent on the Gwen Stacy storyline considering how important she was in the comics. Quote
Weltall2 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Yeah I can sympathize. I saw the movie last night, and I was underwhelmed by the overall film. However it didn't really hit me until a couple hours later. My only hope now is that Pirates 3 and the Fantastic 4 sequeal will not disappoint me like this movie. Also did anyone hear about Tobey Meguires destruction of a fans camera. Hmmm, someone is going to be settling a lawsuit soon. Spoiler The Venom aspect had impressed me, it ws also kinda funny to see Brock jump into the sonic cage created by Spider-Man just as he tossed a bomb in there to finish off the symbiote. Also to further explore the "childish Hatred" you talk about Matt. Brock was idiotic to think he had any right to be angry with parker, after he used Photoshop to incriminate Spider-Man. I mean if Parker hadn't found the evidence, eventually someone else would. Quote
BloodStorm Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comics/20070505.jpg My opinions as to this part of the franchise...not my work, but I agree completely. Quote
Tyranthrax Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I guess not many people go to watch a live-ACTION Spiderman movie to watch ACTION, eh? That's why I went. No regrets. Gonna go see it again as soon as possible. I personally don't care for the little drama relationship junkie stuff. It's Spiderman. I went to see the guy the movie is named after. 'Nuff said. Quote
jedi-guyver Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I enjoyed it as well. I liked the drama part, even emo peter. Man I was laughing so hard at that entire part. I was very pleased with venom, and I really liked what they did with sandman. I think they did a lot of good character development with all of the main characters Quote

Spartan Warlord Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 The reason it flopped was because they hyped it way too much and in the previews they show you all the best action, really there was no need to see the whole film....just download the trailers... Sandman's bit should have been developed a lot more and Parker and MJ's relationship should have been toned down...not to say it wasn't good but it takes up way to much of the film....this is Spiderman, I wanna see action!!! Flopped? Hardly. It broke, like, every record there is, not to mention it has already made $622.1 million to date. Now, time will only tell if Spiderman 3, Shrek the Third, or Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will win out this summer... Quote
Spartan Warlord Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I don't care what records it's broke, it's the worst one yet...plus you don't know how crappy it is until you've seen it. Quote
Warbyrd13 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I saw the movie out here in Iraq and I was hyped in woundering how they would protray the black costume and what My favorite Spidey bad guy would be like in live action.... Well Sandman had the I forgive you casue your not evil you just made choices you thought was righ becuase of your daughters sickness. Harry had You killed my daddy and now I will kill you. Then did a good head game against spidey but became a wuss again when Spidey took off the kid gloves. Well he is dead now so that means old Normy should be rising from the grave since harry was too weak to take out Peter. Minnie Venom.... Ok i know they was trying to show that simalrity between Eddie n Peter but Venom is a monster of muscle and hatred with steak knives for teeth and a 3 feet long toungue to add for the more disturbing apperance. Venom is big and scary.. He is the Dark side of Spiderman and what Spiderman is capable of if he dont hold back. Gwen Stacey... Peter's first love who was killed by Norman who was later killed in a battle the began after Gwen's death. She was supposed to be in the first movie... Gwen is the reason Peter had a problem being with MJ. He fears she will be a target of his enemies if they learned his secrect identy. Quote
daveblackeye152 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I know I'm late but I loved this one! Second favorite. Just had a great time. Quote
