Enzyme-eternal Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Oh come on! They're scientists (Well Barcus is) that have learned that all of history and religion are false. I think there a little more open-minded than just sexist old guys who are looking for new members in their elitist club. Well that makes sense as far as the Zoalords go, there have been several female leaders throughout history so it stands to reason that among the entire population there would have been suitable female candidates. However, the lack of female troopers may not be due to prejudice but Chronos’ recruitment system. It takes a certain kind of person to willingly work for an organization like Chronos, ruthless, murderous and basically inhuman (no pun intended). Due to the restrictive nature of women’s lives during Balcus’ time, women with these qualities tended to get dealt with more readily than their male counterparts so suitable recruits would have been harder to find. Then again I am just speculating and of course that doesn’t apply to modern times so maybe there is no rule that women can’t be Zoaformed its just no one has yet (in Chronos). Quote

*zeo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Oh come on! They're scientists (Well Barcus is) that have learned that all of history and religion are false. I think there a little more open-minded than just sexist old guys who are looking for new members in their elitist club. I don't think it can be emphasized enough how some cultures view women and centuries ago a lot more of the world had similar views. It has only been fairly recently that this has changed but those changes are mainly set in the western world as this news article shows some cultures still treat women as property... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7579616.stm It really is hard to get past a world view you grew up with even if you are a scientist, for example just about a century ago Marie Curie was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize but she suffered depression because she could never teach at a university because they didn't allow women to do that in her lifetime. It's amazing how things have changed in just a century but as pointed out many parts of the world still cling to old beliefs, there is even still female slave trades, etc in the world. As well as general male rage against women, especially those who want more equal rights... http://jezebel.com/5041324/new-statistics-...e-rise-in-india So we have to remember the whole world is not like us and humanity as a whole still has a long way to go. Enzyme-eternal Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I absolutely agree but such archaic view may not permeate all of the older Zoalords, Krumeggnic in particular (if I’m right about something). I realize Krumeggnic seems to be African but for some reason he gives me the impression that he is Egyptian, I don’t know why exactly just something about that face pant (unless its to do with him being a Zoalord). Anyway, if he does trace his origins to ancient Egypt then that would be a plus for female Chronos employees because, according to a documentary, women enjoyed more equality then they do in our society. So, providing Krumeggnic isn’t actually African, then at least one of the old Zoalords wouldn’t have a problem with women in Chronos. Even if that isn’t the case, in the interests of fairness bare in mind that the ills of a society aren’t the ills of every individual in it and vice versa. Also, a progressive society doesn’t always breed progressive people and I think I’ll stop with the pseudo-metaphors now. Quote
*zeo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 We wouldn't be talking about ancient Egypt, but rather the Egypt of the last few centuries which has hardly been friendly towards women. Remember Balcus is the oldest of the modern Zoalords and he's only just over 400 years old. But this was a fairly bad time for women's rights when we had psychologists reasoning women who wanted to read must be mentally ill and would have their ovaries removed to cure them. Just to show some of the extreme thinking of those times. Of course this was not true of the experience of all women but is indicative of the overall common mindset of men at the time period most of the Zoalords came from. Most of the changes in women's rights happened in the 20th century and most of the Zoalords predate the 20th century except for Guyot and now Imakarum. Even if the Zoalords are generally more liberal and progressive minded than those from the same time period they originated from averaged. It should be remembered the idea of women soldiers is not something readily accepted even today where even in the US women combat roles are limited. And respecting women is separate from trusting them to be in the position of a Supreme Zoalord. Men have such sensitive ego's after all Quote
Enzyme-eternal Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 My history is so bad and I forgot Balcus was only 400 but look at him, you see how I could make that mistake. You’re right though, even now women in military roles aren’t equal but the irony is that Guyot’s indifference to life, rather than his modern up bringing, that would make him more likely to allow women into Chronos but for the wrong reasons. I can’t imagine a megalomaniac like him taking gender, race or creed into consideration, “all will fight and die for my ends” that’s his view of equality, we’re all equally entitled to serve him. I’m not sure what Imakirum’s position would be, he’s a modern man but I guess he wouldn’t care ether way, all he does seem to care about is Arkenfel. To be honest I don’t think there is a gender exclusion rule in modern day Chronos anymore but there probably was one in the early days…what would really help is a copy of Chronos’ recruitment policy.
