Opinions about backwards compatibility?
Jess♥ replied to PrimalNemesis's topic in Japanese Entertainment
that's where consoles suck and why I don't plan on joining this generation of consoles. There are plenty of games that come out on PS4 that would run just fine on PS3. they are literally that simple that they could run very easily on it, and yet no person who already owns a sony console can play that game unless they upgrade. maybe people don't mind about the graphics quality? maybe people would be happy to play games in PS3 quality and not have extra FPS etc. there is literally NO REASON to have different consoles unless there is a drastic difference in capabilities. With the difference between SNES and N64 there was a definite advantage to the new machine. the old one COULD NOT have done the things that the newer one did. there was a damn good reason to upgrade. new things were possible and the whole experience was vastly improved. but the difference between PS3 and PS4 is negligible. The whole issue of separate platforms is just stupid now. Let's look at smart phones. any game that comes out on the market place will run on my phone. even though there is now an S5, the games all run on my S3. all the old ones will run and the new ones will run on any device. maybe the older devices will struggle with newer games but that's not really my point. in that case, there is a definite reason to upgrade. PC is kinda the same but it is of course WAY more modular. So .... In short I agree with your point. Although I approached it from a different angle, the theory is still the same. games should work on each version of a platform in this day and age because there is not reason to lock them out. If you own a game, you should be able to play it within reason on what ever system you have. old games should work on the new system, and if the programming is not functional, they can release a patch. but the patch is to attract new customers of the game, not a standalone software to be sold. I would sooner emulate a game I already own on PC rather than pay for a digital copy. If I already own the game then I have a legal right to own a backup copy. -
actually graphene is very easy to produce. it can be made using household products. large scale productions will e needed to be developed of course, but it really isn't some exotic thing to be carefully refined. carbon is everywhere and the graphite used to make pencils is not really difficult to get. do pencils really cost a lot of money? not really. here is the process by which a factory could easily produce massive quantities of graphene. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-27113732 and here is the printing mechanism that will be available to all of us in the near future. this is not far out crazy futuristic stuff 100s of years from now. this is happening now. within the next several years. I mean, 3d printing didn't even exist 10 years ago.

*sigh* it's a little frustrating to communicate when it feels like i'm not being listened to... I did say the future. and I did say very clearly graphene.
-
ok, but I think you're missing a trick. don't misunderstand, I totally acknowledge your past experience with using different parts to make a car, but I'm talking about 3d printing. sure, it would take a lot of money to buy all those nuts and bolts, but tell me, why would I buy all those nuts and bolts when I can print them? I am pretty sure there will come a point in the near future when we can print using graphene flakes. these are relatively easy to manufacture and getting easier all the time. using a 3d printer, I can use online schematics and print each part, all I have to pay for is the materials. depending on cost of material... well let's say I already have a bike. to make a simple four wheeled road worthy vehicle, won't take much more material than the bicycle I have already. that cost me £40 so I really don't see it costing a whole lot of money when you take out the cost of getting the parts manufactured by a company, stored in a warehouse and delivered etc. The parts I was referring to when talking about things I would need to order, are things with exotic materials such as a battery unit etc. those are things that can't be printed.

thanks for posting it that is really useful. it does correlate with the distance between the likely real life counterparts.

I don't tend to read manga, there are only a very few I have read, guyver, akira, naruto. as a result I don't notice if the events are clichéd or if it is too much alike other manga. I don't care, I only know that I like naruto. The way it went was a bit sucky, the war went on for too long, but now we come out the other side and it looks like a victory will be had soon.

what experience? the system I described doesn't exist yet... :-/
-
hey that's fine, not a problem, I just think you will get more response from other people with the personal touch.
-
to be honest I'm not a fan of copy/paste. can you give us your own take on it? what do you think it will be like, and do you think it'll do well?
-
with 3d printing coming along, it won't be long before we can print our own components for a kit car. since I can't afford a car, I would certainly be eager to build one piece by piece. we may benefit from ordering certain spare parts from the automotive industry, things that 3d printer might currently struggle with.
-
it seems it would take a lot more money to shut down a factory and reopen in a few years than it would to waste all these cars.

Thanks for the compliment BBdude I study everything in dribs and drabs, but no I haven't studied colour theory as an academic subject. I'm really happy that you can appreciate the time I spent balancing the colours. I just really love to play with that.

the article does cover that peculiarity, it says that the companies won't sell them cheap because it reduces their products market value in the long run. If they sell 2014 model for 6k instead of 15k, then 2015 model will not sell at 15k. that is their reasoning according to the article. I don't know what the case is in some Asian countries, there are more people in places like indonesia, china, india etc. I don't know what the case is, but it is possible and likely that there is a similar thing going on. the reason I say that is because if there were a market in Asia, then the cars from the UK and other countries would be shipped to the place where the market is performing well. shipping them is surely cheaper than the alternative, right?
-
read the article, there are more cars on the planet than people. cars are just being abandoned because they will not sell.
-
I think people are missing the point here. This is not just in one country, or two... it's in all countries.
-
yeah I thought there might be a japanese scan soon-ish and didn't want to send it to everybody twice, but it seems there has not been one. I'll send these out now.
-
yeah the thread is mainly about the state of industry, rather than cars specifically. but there is some good info here, I'll have a proper read later when i got a bit of time.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-05-16/where-worlds-unsold-cars-go-die I can't believe how many unsold cars they have. I don't even have a car and I could surely use one, but I can't afford one. it seems crazy that there are so many stockpiled that will probably never be sold and then there is me with no car. I can't see an easy fix for this. I can only see this industry collapsing. How many more industries are seeing situations like this? are there warehouses full up with televisions? computer components? how much stuff is there that is being produced and wasted? We could all have brand new everything, but this stuff is probably just sitting and rotting away. I make do with second hand goods, while there is brand new stuff just left idle. My chair was something i found in the shed. There is probably a warehouse full of brand new office chairs unsold.

I did update the google code. I had an old copy of the google code. it may have had some form of exploit in it. can't imagine how that might have happened and i would be surprised that google would not have told me about it by email or something. but if that were the case, then I'm glad it seems to have resolved.
-
nice observation! I hadn't thought about that factor.

I just received a response from google support. he informed me that google ads will never be in a popup format. I share his view as well. whatever has happened is not right. He suggested that there may be malicious code on this website. as I am intimately aware of all the code that goes into this site, I am pretty certain that is not the case. it is clear that there has to be something slipped through a net somewhere. since it appears no other users have reported this, it is probably limited to one user. the fact it happened on more than one machine is perplexing though as it suggests that it can't be malware. the google rep asked me to provide a screenshot though. we will need evidence in order to solve the issue. so if this continues to happen, please take a screenshot and post it so we can see what we are dealing with.

I don't know who wrote it, the film is "the great dictator"

I always got the impression that mount Minakami was a quite a far way away. don't you remember Shou's ride with Murakami, they got to discuss a LOT in that journey. I mean, the amount they must have talked about, that journey must have been at least 2 hours. besides, if mount Minakami was anywhere close by, then wouldn't Murakami have just pointed and said "yeah it's just over there"? I thought it was pretty clear that mount Minakami was far away merely by the fact that Murakami had to TAKE Shou there. If it was close by, Shou would already know the location. It's not like they were shown frequently travelling from mt Minakami to their school or anything, they had to shack up with the Onuma's. There had to be a reason for that... The only other time they travelled that journey was by teleportation. Shou teleported them using the relic.

It's very odd, I am hoping that with the announcement I posted, if there is anyone else who experiences this, I can get feedback and block this type of thing. I personally have all google ads blocked by my script blocker since it would be problematic if I accidentally clicked them myself. But there have been the odd occasion when I had my script blocker disabled and I never saw any intrusive ads. it is really as simple as this, anything intrusive is not welcome. I wish you had mentioned it back then. I never want you to have any disruption from this kind of thing. anyway, I am re-enabling the code. if you can please note down any intrusive ads, give me any info you can about them and I can manually block those advertisers and report them to google as they are breaking the rules.

What? I don't understand the question... How did they manage to walk it? because they live there. Testuro and Shou lived in Narisawa near Tokyo. Mount Minakami and Tekeshiro are over 180 km away. where does the difficulty come in?
