I was thinking that since this is still a loose subject of science fiction. I think advanced prosthetic bodies that are fluid mechanical and look human and are more durable than the actual human body itself with real skin that feels real and looks real would be amazing. You could pretty much change how you look and even your gender.

I think full prosthetic would allow people to live longer and would help us achieve more medical achievments today. Help us fight cancer, AIDS, and other horrific diseases both genetic and deadly.

people who are dying could have their brain put in a brain case of some sort and brain case and placed in a prosthetic body of their choice. Problem solved, but they'd probably have to do mental and physical therapy to get up and going.

Although there would be a lot of religious and political debate over such a thing. But since when has medical ever really had too much trouble going out to the public?

I think this is really possible and if man dreams it, he can achieve it.

That is pretty much headed to Ghost In The Shell territory right there.

this concept scares me. my own body is natural to me. technology seems to be out of my grasp a little. if it goes wrong, I am always happy to know i can pull hte plug or take out the battery,

I would welcome advances in biological science that can make my body stronger as long as it is self regulating. I mean if something can add to my genetic code, the data for spider silk to make my skin tougher? that would be cool.

but it would have to be self regulating just like my natural body.

also it would have to be something that adds to my independence. I wouldn't go for something that allows my body or mind to be tinkered with remotely. hacking is too big a risk.  having my data in danger of being messed with, ok I can live with that to a degree, but my own being... no way.

Do you think many would debate that we would be playing God?  However we are human, from the very beginning we have used innovation to succeed what we thought to be impossible. We have reached a point in modern age were we have the ability to advance and bring forth insights on such concepts. In hindsight, we are far from reaching such a idea, but close enough to start concerning it.

I don't see anything wrong with playing god. if you subscribe to the foreign deity concept, this deity gave us free will and the capacity to do these things.

we are what we are. we do what we do.

Thing is, we are already performing things that are eeriely like upgrading.

Of course there are no people now who have several of these devices - which are still very early-days yet - but an integrated system of several of them would come close to a body.

It's the brain which will remain a problem. The connection between the brain and the rest of the body is so insanely complex. Nanotechnology will have to make great advances before anything can be realistically done in that area.

You'd have to 'hook up' each nerve with a nanotransmitter, and build a 'virtual body' based on the signals.

...Come to think of it, some people might opt not to have a body at all at that point. They might prefer the ultra-realistic fantasy computer games we'll have by then. Why live in the drab and dreary real world when you can ride dragons, fight orcs and flirt with elves in the endless realms of the imagination?
