Any fans in here? I am, and not ashamed of it, I was always hesitant on watching it cause I try to avoid watching popular things just because everybody else watches it but after giving in to my curiosity i must say i was speechless on how well the writing is, at least in the 2005- ongoing version, I have not watched the old series yet. I usually don't like series or movies that involve time travel cause most of the time it is filled with plotholes and stuff but in this series which it's main thing IS time travel? it does everything in it's power to fill out any gap that they have made. I just love the characters as well and not just the Doctor, the companions are always likable and funny, my favorite being Amy Pond, the chemistry and Bond she has with The doctor as well her love with Rory is believable, my favorite Doctor tho will have to be 10th Doctor, David Tennant's performance is just amazing with his wide range of emotions which has made him one of my favorite actors of all time now. Favorite enemies? I would have to say the weeping angels having the Daleks a close second, the angles concept on how they work is just amazing and when I first saw them I was actually scared a bit, the same can be said about the Daleks which when I first heard of them I used to laugh at them, I was like "pfffft these guys don't look scary, how can they be any more intimidating than the borg?" then ever since I first saw one in season 1 i keep getting freaking goosebumps, proving that good story telling and the right atmosphere can make anything intimidating and this works even better since they don't overuse them making their return have more impact. But I am just gushing here, what are you guy's opinion on the series? favorite doctor? favorite enemy? favorite episode? and is anybody looking forward to season 8?

One of my most memorable moments is when the doctor met rose.

"Hi what's your name?"

"Rose."

"Hi Rose, I'm the Doctor. Run."

That scene made me laugh so much.

And yeah the weeping angels are my fav too.

I would have to say when they get a new doctor would be my fav episodes.

Have you seen the American movie doctor who?

american movie? whosaidwhattowhonow?

I'm always so glad when people all over the world love Doctor Who because it is filmed in Wales ^_^

I do have a great love for the series of course. I used to watch it when I was a kid. I remember doing my paper round and rushing back home to see it. I vividly remember Sylvester McCoy fighting some thing in some weird alien hotel resort.

I also remember how sad I was when they originally cancelled it.

anyway, yes I also love that episode where they bring the Dalek back. That moment when Rose touched it... that was incredible.

I love Matt Smith. I will be sad to see him go.

That same episode also shocked me where the doctor freaked out when he first saw the imprisoned dalek. I wasn't expecting gin to be so... Scared.

I call it an American movie i might be wrong. It was a movie where the doctor was bringing back the masters remains to the other timelords. Master got out and caused the Taurtus to... Crash or something and the doctor died. He regen'd in the morgue of new York back in the nineties. (present day)

And basically tried to take over the doctors body.

Right now, I'm definately a new Who fan. Though, I wouldn't call myself a Whovian cause I'm definitely a bigger Red Dwarf fan.

I won't pick a favorite just yet because I've yet to watch the older series. Right now my favorite episode would have to be The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. It is just a really well done thriller.

i'm an old drwho fan, i've probably tried to watch through maybe 2-3 seasons of the new series and just couldn't watch anymore. just boring and no imagination in most of the stories. the majority of the episodes were still on planet earth!

so i still pretty much like the original, older series and doctors, prefferably tom baker(funniest and wittiest) and jon pertwee(serious and dramatic). they did so many really good stories and episodes back then.

i recommend watching; genesis of the daleks( the introduction of davros freaked me out when i was younger and its still chilling now, great acting)

                                      destiny of the daleks

                                      the green death

planet of the spiders(F@#* i hate spiders, they scare the drenn out of me)

                                      terror of the zygons

i can honestly say that if you take away the special effects from this rebooted 2000's/current series, it just gets blown away by the 70's/early 80's series.

John Pertwee!!

yea, he wasn't too bad, did come across as a bit of a bird at times, but was generally pretty good.

Honestly I am surprise to find someone who does not like the 2005 series and finds it boring as well, persons taste never seize to amaze me, i love it. I will have to see how good the old series is then to compare it. Guyverfan, could you please go a bit on detail as to why you say it is boring and lacking imagination? on it's own without me watching the old series I think it stands well with clever writing and using all types of theories regarding time travel to it's advantage so I am very curious to what you have to say. The only part where I would have to say it was a bit lackluster is how they beat The Master the first time but other than that it has been a great experience for me at least.

Ryuki- That is awesome dude, you must feel proud of having your own superhero. as for Matt Smith, although not as great as David Tennant he gave an incredible performance and i love him as well for his hijinks, it took a while for me to like him but he is definitely one of the greats.

ruyki, your right, jon didn't time travel at all but i think maybe one episode, but he did travel a handful of times to other planets. don't forget though that one of the main group of characters(the brigadier) was pretty much earth bound.
i'm sure it was brought up in one episode, that he had been banned from time travel by the council of timelords(i haven't rewatched this series since the 80's)

its not that being based on earth makes it boring, but it is unimaginative, for the new series anyway. its just seeing the same type of thing over and over again, oh,look, aliens attacking us, run!
i also don't believe some of the acting is interesting, most of the time i believe that their over acting the part which puts me off. i do admit the only episodes that i found worth while were the very few dalek ones.(but not all of the dalek episodes, and afew others that were heavy in dialog and mystery and had nothing to do with anyone being chased by evil aliens)

i was never a big fan of the cybermen in the original series, even though they only appeared afew times within the 20 odd years the original series ran for. so when they were continually used in 3-4 seperate story lines in the first 2-3 seasons of the newer version, right there and then i knew to flush the series down the toilet!

the new series has been running for about 8years now i think and the cybermen have made more than double the appearances than in the original series, imaginative?

in the older series, well, i don't know, its just that i feel that the actors were able to create the right atmosphere and drama to a scene and they were good at it, as there wasn't going to be any special effects to help them. hell, the only special effects they were able to use was lighting and shadowing, most of the sets and walls were cardboard cutouts, actually its pretty funny thinking about it as sometimes an actor would bump into a wall or something and it would move and sound hollow, hahaha.
where as the newer version its like the director is saying," right, you'll be running down this hallway, screaming and yelling and we'll just set off an explosion behind you, don't worry if the episode makes no sense as the viewers will be destracted by the red flames", lol.

Could be just me though, thinking that tom baker was probably the best person who ever played the part of drwho. And that the show went down hill after he left.

You'll be doing yourself a favour by watching the original series anyway odin and make the decision yourself. you might hate it or enjoy it as much as the new series.

I found an old video of one of the episodes of Sylvester McCoy.

in all honestly, I found it to be quite atrocious. but this is just me and my aversion to old TV i suppose.

I just thought they took too long to do anything worthwhile.

but then again, I guess I wasn't around for the older series. I was born in '80 so I wasn't old enough to be interested.

Guyverfan you must be older than me then I guess.

I caught repeats of some of the episodes so I got a general idea of them though. and my brother had a technical manual that was awesome. it had pictures of k9 and all the original cybermen and cybermats and sonic screwdriver and tardis etc. i think it was published around '85.

I can't really agree with this, the new doctor who used more practical effects than special effects (practical being real suits, explosions ect.) only times that it used special effects where in obvious part like shooting lasers, the tardis flying etc... I also don't agree with the always running down the halway screaming and yelling with an explosion behind, if anything this Doctor who was more investigating the source of disturbances and trying to resolve it in a civilized way and if faced with a big opponent (say the Daleks) he would just stare at them in the face and mock them, only time I saw a lot of running like you said was probably most of season 1 and sometimes at the end of each season when there was a reason to run, other times it was not that silly. I do agree that the Cybermen where a bit overused tho but 75% of the time all conflicts where off earth and always showed a new enemy or alien.

had to of been the worst doctor of the series besides colin baker, any wonder the series ended?

as i said, only really sat down and watched the first couple of seasons, but if you think that its improved since then, then i might give it another go. from when do you think i should pick it up from?

well since you said that you have seen up until season 3 I would suggest season 4 onwards, if you did not see season 3 completely then you will get a bit lost BUT season 4 is the season where someone VERY important will appear in the doctors life so yeah, I would recommend from that season onwards.

I think it's worth checking the script writer.

from the first season there were two guys involved along with others.

Russel T Davies was the guy who kicked it off and a few notable scripts written by steven moffat. now steven moffat is the main guy behind it.

now, steven moffat was regarded as writing the best stories of the doctor who series altogether.

he wrote ... 'somthing over london'.. can't remember what that was called.  the one where jack harkness appeared for the first time. oh was that one called 'the doctor dances'?

steven moffat introduced the weeping angels which are now regarded as some of the top doctor who bad guys.  he also introduced some very interesting characters and some very intriguing mysteries.

In my personal opinion, the episodes before matt smith were a bit too campy, I think it's all down to R.T.D.  I didn't like them  in general. watching the finale of david tennants time, I found it to be very hammy and OTT. a bit too much like pantomime. but it's worth watching for the history. there are episodes that steven moffat wrote, where he sets up future events. can't miss that really.

Tom Baker was my first and my favorite.

I got bored with Tennat and stopped watching the new series. Then when they announced the new guy Matt Smith I started watching again. I've now seen every elventh Doctor episode, so far. Looking forward to the 50th anniversary special and the Christmas special. Going to be very different this year, with the Doctor regenerating at the end.  So for new series, Matt Smith is my favorite, so far.

I've never liked the whole Time War nonsense.  All the Time Lords had to do was go back in time to before Davros, creater of the Daleks was born, kill his granparents before his parents were born. No Davors, no Daleks, no Daleks no Time War.

Do you really think that it is correct to do something like that? to my understanding Davros's race before the Daleks had a military goverment so killing them may not be a morally good choice not to mention if you kill them, the rest of the race may consider this as an act of war and in time the scientist the may eventually create the daleks anyways. Also they may not be able to alter Davros time by killing his ancestors since his creation of the Daleks may very well be a fixed timeline and can't be altered.

Although......

This very idea may be the thing that the Dark Doctor that we see at the end of season 7 did that was so terrible.

Well, it's here... and it is glorious.

John Hurt is a Doctor.

This makes him no.9, which makes Christopher #10, David #11 and Matthew #12 - and the new Doctor, Peter, #13.

13. The last incarnation.

Also: Gallifrey falls... no more.  Oh yes. He's going home.

well, so far i'm really glad you convinced me to watch the later new series odin.

cringed alittle trying to get through season 3&4 with tennant, but have found season 6 really interesting and exciting, with the way little segments of different episodes intertwhining for the last few silence episodes(shows that alot of thought is actually being put back into the stories and the series which i like).

just started watching season 7 the other day and trying to fit in atleast one episode every couple of days.

tell me, do they ever show what happened on the tardis that made tennant regenerate into the current doctor?
