*Jess♥ Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Good video series. What would you do? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsynPXnk_l8 2 Quote
*YoungGuyver Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 The reactions of these people impress me. It gives me hope for the future Quote
Bio-Boosted Dude Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Yeah, very impressive. I was particularly impressed by the second guy who came face-to-face with the "Jerk". I would be pretty scared to play that role. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 I think it's pretty awesome too. I always thought there was a lot of intolerance in society. I've often thought of how difficult it must be for minorities in society, but this really shows how people can rally in support, it makes me very happy about the goodness of people. Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) This put a smile on my face. There is yet still hope for humanity. May this be a reminder that ignorance within the 21st century shall no longer be tolerated! Peace, love, and prosper folks! Edited August 18, 2013 by Sevastian Quote
Mirabilis Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I personally find these things to be very mind boggling. A person may change their appearance, or even their sexual organs, but as far as I know they cannot reproduce, nor change the chromosomes or DNA in their blood. The person in that video may appear as a woman, but his DNA in his blood say's he is a male because he caries a XY chromosome and not an XX. I'm not saying that it's okay to bully anyone, I am merely speaking from technicality lol. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 I'm afraid it's not that simple. There are xx males and xy females in the world. sex determination is resulted from a varied set of genes, one of which is SRY gene. this is mainly on the Y chromosome, but this gene fails and other factors determine sex. the bottom line is that if testosterone is in enough concentration, at a particular point during gestation, the gonads turn into testicles and from that point on, the testicles will produce the male balance of hormones. in utero castrated rabbits, they developed as fully female for example. another question is determination vs mechanisms. chromosomes are chemical information, but what determines what gender a person is or should be, is it the information used to build their body, or is it something else? Quote
Mirabilis Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 It is very complex and in the gene structure as you said. The females with Y's are and males with more than one X are actually genetic mutations. A healthy male is an XY chrome while a female is an XX. If the father does not pass his Y chrome off to the offspring while the mother is pregnant then it will develop another X, one from both parents and will become a female. However, sometimes there are mutations and a child will be born with an XYX or XXY or XYXXXXX so on so forth. These people are usually out-casts from societies and are referred to as (not my term) she-males. They have developed both chromosomes and the genetic makeup gives them both structures. Most usually go through surgery and get facial restructures, as well as removal of undesired parts. However, having said that, it is very different from lets say a male born XY, who wants to become a female XX. They go through surgery get reconstructed and plastic surgery etc. They may look like a female have parts like a female even claim to be a female but are they? Their DNA sequencing would suggest otherwise, as many scientist have noted both males and females act differently and perceive things differently due to the pheromones of the individual and chemicals in the body, especially after puberty when the genetic make up strongly built on these patterns and make up developing them for adulthood and full capacity. Some studies show that females use different parts of the brain then males do, and vice versa. Lets say for the benefit of the doubt, that the male is a female, will the individual have ministrations like one? Could they get pregnant? If so, what would the child be like sense both have a Y chromosome and their is no double X? See what I mean? This brings forth many problems, to say one individual is no longer a certain sex because they changed their sex organs I don't believe is accurate, it goes far beyond that. In truth, it is a man who wants to be with another man and a female who wants to be with a female; yet they don't want to be seen as a homosexual (for whatever reason) so they changed the appearance to look like a girl, but the end result is the same. Man and man female and female. But now comes the really hard question: Is lying to someone about your gender morally right, or would leaving someone because you found out they had a sex change and could not have children etc be seen as a hate crime? What does one do in this situation? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 a man, with a male brain, couldn't psychologically cope with having the body of a female. I think you need to do more research. It is not a case of a man being gay and wanting to deny it or anything like that. there are trans women who are in relationships with women. there are two hormone stages in gestation. one effects the brain, one effects the gonads. when the stages don't match, you have either a male structured brain in a female structured body, or you have a female structured brain in a male structured body. That is what research currently shows. currently a trans woman cannot get preganant or menstruate etc. Science is still working on techniques to grow organs and there are various studies being carried out that can cause ovaries to actually turn into testicles. the reverse is still being investigated, but in the future it will be possible. I think some important questions are, what determines sex, and what determines gender. the two are different concepts. currently sex is determined by physical characteristics. gender is determined by how person feels and expresses themself. since a person can legally change their sex and physically change their sex albeit imperfectly, they are legally, physically and emotionally that sex. genetically is another matter of course. But of course, genetics is a tricky subject. scientists used to think maleness was caused purely by the SRY gene, but now are discovering that if the SRY gene doesn't work, sometimes there is a gene on the X chromosome that causes maleness too. this means that even if a person has XX chromosomes, they can still become male depending on circumstances. what these circumstances are, is unclear. it is possible that the mother may contribute to the hormone concentrations at specific times during gestation. Mirabilis Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 (edited) Hmmm...interesting I'll definitely look more into this. Was taught in health class and biology that the gender/sex of the offspring was determined by the father. That if he didn't pass a Y then it would be a girl but if he did pass a Y it would be a boy. etc. What I meant by the gay example, was that a person who changes their sexual make up and organs, may have a desire to be with someone of that same sex. So by that logic the desire would be the same. A male wants to be with a male but he wants to be a girl so gets the change done, same with female concept. Of course that does not apply to every single person but I don't think it's too far fetched to think that it applies to some.I really like your argument I want to explore more into this, if the study of the human anatomy has changed, and what I know to be out of date I definitely want to be caught up to speed. Do you have any major articles or anything of the sort, or did you just google sex change studied etc? Edited August 24, 2013 by Mirabilis Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 here is a good site to study about a lot of things. It's especially useful now that Chelsea Manning has decided she no longer wants to be known as Bradley. http://www.t-vox.org/index.php?title=Trans_101 The thing about sexuality is, it is different from gender. a man may start out as a straight man, fancying women. he may then undergo hormone replacement therapy which will change his/her body chemistry and brain chemistry and his/her soft tissue body structure, and she ends up fancying men. In effect the straight man, became a straight woman. on the other hand, he may start out fancying women and become a lesbian. There are lots of possibilities. unfortunately, what can be taught in schools is extremely limited and usually kept over simplistic. I was also taught that the world consisted of xx and xy. 1 Quote
