odin Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 for those who don't know Death Battle is an internet show where they do analysis of characters from different types of media and pits them against an equal foe (usually) they use all the canonical source material of each character in order to find out who would win in a fight then they create an animated fight to demonstrate the results. The only constant rules they keep on the show is that characters can't have outside help and if a character has a personality trait that prevents him from killing (like batman or spider-man) they eliminate that since there can be only one winner. anyways I bring this up cause they have just released arguably one of the most controversial fictional battles which is Goku vs Superman, i bring you the video link so you can watch it and after watching it feel free to bring your thoughts on it and if you think the results where accurate and such.... enjoy. http://www.screwattack.com/shows/originals/death-battle/death-battle-goku-vs-superman Quote
*Jess♥ Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 can't really argue with that. they pretty much covered it all and they went into so much depth. Quote
odin Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Likewise although it amazes me how much rage and denial some people are having from the results proving that you can't please everyone cause someone will always complain. :/ and to be honest if they did not put a handicap on Superman it would have been a one-sided fight and they where being very generous only giving Supes his powers after the crisis event. Raius Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Wow, this topic is spreading like wildfire! Anyway, I'm totally ok with this outcome. Most epic fight ever, AND we weren't subjected to 15 mins of Power-Up Screaming either. Bonus points. Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 While the numbers don't lie, Superman did have outside help via The Sun. It's like pitting a Laptop on batteries against a Desktop. It would have been a fairer fight if Superman was running on energy reserves just like Goku. Personality contest-wise: Goku wins every time. 1 Quote
Raius Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 While the numbers don't lie, Superman did have outside help via The Sun. It's like pitting a Laptop on batteries against a Desktop. It would have been a fairer fight if Superman was running on energy reserves just like Goku. Personality contest-wise: Goku wins every time. I'd have to agree. Judging by this fight alone it seemed like Goku actually won, up until he knocked Superman into the sun. In the end, it came down to who could use the sun's power more efficiently. But at the same time, looking at Goku's maximum Ki output, that blast that knocked Superman to the sun probably wasn't enough to kill him; in which case, he would have been back in a few minutes since he was already in space and thus able to absorb solor rays. It's still tough to call, but I do like this outcome. These guys did a great job at spelling out their data for us. On another note though, this makes me wonder if Gigantic Exceed still has a chance at beating Goku as well. Though, I'm not going to try and calculate Exceed's data, LOL! Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Well, it depends if Goku could survive a black hole or not. Quote
odin Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) It would have been a fairer fight if Superman was running on energy reserves just like Goku. I don't really agree, the absorption of the suns rays is part of his genetic code so it is not outside help, that would be like telling a person to stop breathing cause he is consuming air. Besides superman has no limits so if you just get him to just put him with energy reserve of being in the sun for 15 minutes or a solar energy suit like Superboy prime (which is not his standard equipment so he can't have it) and put him on a red sun the result would be the same only faster, he would just go all out and do the vibration + infinite mass punch he did at the end. besides they handicapped superman as it is, they did not give him anything before Crisis and gave Goku everything up until GT and movies. Edit: also Goku as well as other full-blooded saiyans is someone who wants to with his opponent at their very best, the only way supes can do that is by being in a Yellow sun so it is Goku's personality that got the best of him really. Salkafar Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 It depends on where they fight. If they fight in the DC universe, Goku could find himself severely reduced, power-wise. Qi pretty obviously works differently there; there are many martial artists in the DC universe, but none of them have developed super powers based on it. Goku might be no more than an accomplished hand-to-hand fighter, a match for Batman, perhaps, but no more. His alien nature might conceivably give him an edge, but I don't know what edge that is. Wolverine without the claws, unbreakable skeleton and healing factor? Adversely, were Superman to fight in the DB universe, he might be as powerful as ever... or more powerful. He did master Torquasm-Vo, a Kryptonian martial art which leans heavily on mental disciplines. Imagine Superman with a developed ability to channel qi power. Of course, these two would never fight for long, let alone to the death. Goku gave Freezer, a genocidal madman, chance after chance after chance to get out with his tail more or less intact; and Superman doesn't kill as a rule. God, I hate this particular issue. Quote
Guyver0 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I have to admit I was rooting for Goku because I'm more of a Dragon Ball fan. However the outcome is something I can live with, but to me it's like they both lost because they destroyed the Earth. At least they still have the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish it back I guess. Also for those that thought Superman had outside help from the Sun, remember Goku did the same thing with the Spirit Bomb so that controversy should be voided. "Kaio-What?" best line ever. 1 Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I see your point, BUT a Spirit Bomb never uses that much energy from any one person or object. Superman absorbed more power from the Sun than Goku did for the Spirit Bomb. Quote
Guyver0 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Oh yes I'm not debating who absorbed the most energy from the Sun, just the fact that they both utilized that ability. That's all I mean. Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 True. I just saying is that Superman had a external power source the entire time, unlike Goku. Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 The whole battle is rather pointless. Both characters are of pure heart, so I doubt they would ever really fight each other. I would much rather see a renegade like Vegeta take on Superman instead because he has no qualms about the snot out of a good guy. And I refuse to consider anything from GT canon. If it is not from the Manga then it did not happen. 2 Quote

I know where you are getting at, I for one don't like heroes fighting heroes but this is just to debate which one of them is stronger not what would really happen if they actually met, of course they would not fight! they are heroes and don't kill (unless they need to) and if they did fight they would do it in a safe tournament style and not go all out in which if they did Goku would win 9/10 since he is the better martial artist BUT this is just a what if they had no moral restrictions holding them back and would fight to the death, Superman would win 9/10 depending on which version you use of him and to be honest if Vegeta would fight fight superman he would lose quickly without assistance, he can only go as far as Super Saiyan 2 without assistance and supes can hold his own against a ss3 or ss4 so it is basically a one sided match, not to mention Vegeta has a lot more flaws than Goku that would make him lose faster, more than likely his pride will get the best of him and make a mistake. *Jess♥ Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I think what would be more interesting is a tenkaichi battle between goku and superman. 1 Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I would prefer a Street Fighter, or Guilty Gear-like fight. I don't fighters where you can manually charge the super meter. It ruins the balance. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 let me clarify on my post, I wasn't referring to a tenkaichi video game, I was referring to the actual tenkaichi tournament from the dragonball franchise. Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Oh. I've only seen the series dubbed. That would make sense. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Oh, is the tournament called something different in the English dub? sorry about the confusion Quote
RazorLaser Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 There's also the fact that Goku wouldn't fight in or near a populated city. Quote
LordSpleach Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Oh, is the tournament called something different in the English dub? sorry about the confusion It's just called The World Martial Arts Tournament. Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I wonder how Kid Buu would fair against Superman? Hmm... Quote
