Yeah...Now I'll certainly avoid saying it around Japanese folks.

Blog time:

Classes are going smoothly. I've only had to make one small change to my schedule, but other than that I love my classes. All my teachers are blunt and to the point. None of them have gone beserk over my gloves (I've started wearing fingerless glove to avoid messing with my face too much) and even one of them said they liked my 'fashion statement'. [emote=cat]biggrin[/emote] I'm going to like these people.

'tis a great time of life :)

enjoy yourself as much as you can!

I'd love to go to college again. well actually I probably will.

but it won't be the same as when i was young and carefree.

many poeple say college/university was the best years of their life.

I won't be so melodramatic to say that as I believe the best time in my life will be when i have children but oh well.

Posted

lol. You're not being melodramatic by saying that, Ryuki.

And I think you're right about one thing: this won't be the best years, but very good years. I know I'm going to love the Otakus Club here because last night at the first meeting we watched Godzilla: Final Wars with the Japanese audio on and craked jokes through out the movie about the movie.

Talk about a crappy night and morning. I had a slight fever last night and this morning I've got a cold that's making me drowsy. So far I haven't be able to get my Comp I essay started because stupid me decided to go home for the weekend and get caught up in some housework that needed to be done and hang out with my cousin that now has a Justin Beiber hair cut (and I managed to piss him off when I called him Justin Beiber  ).

On a happier note: I got my grandma's first published book in the mail today. Will read and comment whenever I get a break from the homework hailstorm.

I can't believe it's been 10 years now since the Twin Towers fell. I remember being dismissed from school early and getting home seeing a plume of smoke in the sky. I was little at the time, and I didn't know what had happened. I knew something bad had happened somewhere else in the world, but I didn't know what occured until the next day at school when I 'borrowed' the teacher's newspaper and saw a picture of the towers burning.

Remember 9/11. Never forget those who lost their lives and the lives ruined on that day.

 I love this college! There was a Field Day thing today that started around 3 pm. I didn't know what it was all about until I saw a giant slip n' slide thing on the campus Mall (really can't call it the main courtyard since all the buildings are arranged in a U shape around it, so we just call it the Mall). They also had a cotton candy machine going and a giant parachute thing too. Everyone that was there before I left at least tried out the slip 'n slide 10 times. Edited by river_chaos

Wow, America. Just **** wow. Are we really so broken that we'll take the life of an innocent man because some cop died and no one else had any evidence to find the real killer? Are we that ***** up? If this is American justice, then I want no part of it.

Went to an art reception on campus and went to a concert also on campus. The art exhibit consisted of photography of the damage done by the tornado outbreaks back in March/April. That was kinda hard on me because there were a few scenes I recognized from my home town and it brought back some sad memories for me. My friends were also there and they decided after the artist spoke that they (my friends) would drag me over to the concert that was happening at the same time as the reception.

The concert was good; no slow sappy achybreaky heart crap. The musician was cool, he even went and stalled while one of the students went to the bathroom. That made me feel a lot better since we were cracking up and having a good time. I even went a head and bought his CD, along with another dude's CD and got that one signed. In short: I'm happy

Stupid autism! Stop kicking my butt in Composition class!

End randomness...

I think I've got some people in the Nerd Club on campus interested in the 2005 Guyver anime. I know one of them has gone as far as to look up the manga online, and I loaned out my Vol. 1 DVD to another member last week and now the club president has it this week. That reminds me: I got into a debate about the anime from the 80s with an all out geek member (we call him the anti-president...not sure how that started). We had fun discussing the old anime, especially when we started debating on the 2nd part of the OVA.

Went home over the weekend and found a local anime shop that opened up over the summer. Holy cow :droolsmall: I had died and gone to heaven. Not everyday you find an anime shop in the Natural State. I found a Guyver poster there, along with a DVD I'd been looking for, and some random comic book that teaches kids how to read Japanese hiragana and katakana. I really wished I could've gotten a costume from there....but alas, where the hell would I put it until I needed the blasted thing?

Family Weekend went well. Got lots of stuff sold at the Art club booth, and lots of customers at the Nerd and Fortissimo booths. Family Weekend is when students get to bring their families and friends to the campus and hold a huge fundraiser for all campus organizations. There were also some competitions for the residence halls such as decorating the lobbies. It's a fun event, but sheesh I didn't expect so many people to buy stuff at the Art booth.

I'm ready to cry. Not just cry my eyes out, but cry an entire ocean. I just learned that I failed Critical Inquiry because I didn't do a Letter of Recomendation assignment, and I didn't know how to make one. The instructor gave us no direction as to where to start, and he hasn't been helpful with the Resume assignment he gave us. I don't know what to do.

damn, that really sucks.

have you spoken to the person who awards the marks?

if you explain that you felt you weren't given adequate instruction, then you may be able to rectify your situation.

you may be given a re-grade or something.

I spoke with the instructor yesterday, and he's allowing me to redo the assignment. I just emailed him my redos this morning after getting help from fellow classmates in the same CI class. Hopefully I'll get a passing grade.

Holy cow  I didn't think my college could get any cooler! Just got back from the Halloween Costume Ball. Had a blast there as a black sorceress, especially when I danced to a few certain songs with some cute guys

Now....I need sleep....zzzZzz.....

Ahh it looks like you're having heaps of fun! So glad you've settled in :D How's your assignment going? It's frustrating where there are some lecturers who lack teaching skills, while possessing the knowledge.

Just a rewind, not sure if this would be of interest, but I came across this thread on another forum I troll (am I allowed to admit to that?) and thought of you: http://forums.kametsu.com/showthread.php?t=14616

It's a debate on the 'Otaku' term - while I know it's been covered and Ryuki's given us the correct definition, I wondered what opinions you may have had on this?

Assignments are going slowly. Composition I tutoring is really helping me out with the essays, and Algebra tutoring is a big load of help too. I really need to get onto my Art History essay now that I think of it...

Hmmm....I'm actually surprised I didn't see the Otaku Murders in there because that is the main reason why Otaku is a taboo in Japan. Honestly, I really can't say anything on the topic since I'm not much of a nerd/geek.

Posted

Yeah...unfortunately the topic was locked before I became aware of it (I only visit it rarely) so I couldn't throw my two cents in. It could be assumed that the word 'Otaku' had a negative connotation already (I mean, who wants to be labelled a shut-in?) but the murders (where the killer was wrongly profiled as an Otaku) only made the matter worse. It's only recently (I guess?) that some people are trying to change that perception, but meh, just thought it may have been of interest. Both sides made some valid points and both sides were just as stubborn I think, with the admin wielding divine judgement.

Ooh Algebra...I loved Algebra! Did you say what course you were doing? If so, I apologise if I missed it or forgot (both are likely...) I ask because you appear to have a varied range of subjects there. I never understood what Art History was about...I'm looking to take some adult learning courses in my local area, but the description for Art History wasn't all that enlightening...

I'm taking Intermediate Algebra before going into College Algebra. My college makes its students take a variety of classes with their needed Major/Minor classes.

We get a lot of foreign students here, so it's a cultural melting-pot college in some sense.

As for Art History it basically goes over the evolution of art, from Pre-Historic to Egyptian to Greek/Roman etc. It's part of my Art Major to learn the history behind today's art tecniques and arcitechture that was also incorporated with ancient temples. I believe Art History in my college is broken into two parts: Pre-Historic to 12th Century, and then past 12th Century to a few years ago.

Posted

Yeah...I remember my first year...it was so easy and most of the subjects were recaps for me. It's good that it's like that because, to expand on what you said, you get students from different backgrounds taking different routes to get on the same course :)

Thanks for explaining Art History to me - that's actually pretty interesting - I may take it up! Hopefully it'll be similar to what you described :) Will there be any focus on artists themselves, like Da Vinci; Picasso; Van Gogh; Monet or is that completely different territory?

Posted (edited)

Hmmm....I think focusing on various artists is not in Art History. I think you focus on those artists in either high school art classes or one of the other art college courses like Painting. I can't garuntee that since my class is in the Byzatine/Early Christianity era at this point. Most of the art we've seen has no artist listed, but we might focus on Van Gogh and such once we get into Modern Art next semester.

Blog time:

Got a new computer over the weekend! My poor old one is going out and it got to the point where I had to get a new one and kiss my birthday good-bye for this year. Anywho....it's got a lot better screen resolution, meaning I can reload my studio software! Yay!

Just one slight problem: I can't display the Guyver scanlations anymore. Don't know why it's not wanting to work and it works fine on my old one. Hopefully I can figure it out. Apparently it can decompress zip files like my old one....oh well I guess.

We're starting to talk about going to ComicCon or some other conventions in the nerd club. Hopefully I will be able to go to at least one of them *crosses fingers* and hopefully I can get someone to help me with my cosplay for those events.
