*Jess♥ Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I believe there could be ways to improve on the formula for OOO. but I think the whole thing is rather complex. I am uncertain what the director is trying to do. what his intention is for eiji. eiji is a unique character, I haven't seen one like him before. it is like the way the purple medals are attracted to him. he has no ambition, he has no desire. the way he fights, is reflective of that. if i really think about it, I believe his attitude and fighting is similar to the behaviour of a depressed person. a person who has no desire or ambition. eiji seems to be a positive person, but his lack of desire is indicative of a person who is in a deep depression. -------------------------------------- if i really think about it, I believe his attitude and fighting is similar to the behaviour of a depressed person. a person who has no desire or ambition. eiji seems to be a positive person, but his lack of desire is indicative of a person who is in a deep depression. Another interesting though from all i have gathered so far was and can speculate is the upcoming Dr.Maki vs Eiji. As to,why the purple medal went to them. Dr Maki was only interested in the end.Nilihism. Eiji was not interested in himself.Heroic Selflessness. Thing is,this still lacks the punch to turn it into something great.Nilihism vs Heroic Selflessness would have been an interesting conflict of ideals. And in the end,was ether any better than the other? But i don't hear anything out there is building up towards that. I don't think it's heroic selflessness. I think it's regret. he regrets not being able to save those people. he has layered a false optimism over that but he punishes himself by not allowing any riches or even a comfortable way of living. by not allowing himself to have any desire. it is remorse that he is filled with and he is trying to make up for it with each fight, but i think he is doing it for the wrong reasons and this is why his desire is not strong. it is why he doesn't go out of control. except with the purple medals. because those medals are medals of void. emptiness. what the void medals latch on to.... doctor maki desires the destruction of all. eiji desires the destruction of self. Toku Warrior Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) Well guys, it's been a heck of a ride with this series. but, sadly, it is coming to an end this Sunday as the final episode airs. So, in response to this series, all discussion should be held after TV-N releases their sub so that those who watch Kamen Rider that way will be able to view it and then take part in the discussion without the worry of spoilers. So let's all post our views, pros and cons on the series, about a day or two after the sub comes out. Until then, let's count the medals one last time this weekend until they release another 'Movie War' movie. judging by the finale preview, we might just see the return of TaJaDor combo in the final episode. So will this mean we'll get the return of 'Time Judged All' as the final battle song alongside 'POWER to TEARER'? Edited August 23, 2011 by Ryuu-Oh Quote
odin Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 It really has been a nice ride with Ozu, It has definitely earned it's spot on my top rider series of all time and would definitely recommend it to a friend to start of to know the series, that or Kabuto or Faiz. I will definitely give my final thoughts on the series after the final episode is aired, here is hoping that it ends epically. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 Well, the final episode is out in RAW format so I'm downloading it now. I'll place my views on the series finale inside a spoiler tag when the time comes and then remove the tag about 2-3 days after TVN releases their subbed version. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 (edited) Okay then, I watched the final episode and gave it a day to let it settle into my mind. Now here's my opinion. The episode itself was okay but nowhere near as good as its last episode or even the final battle between W Xtreme VS Utopia. but it was still satisfying none-the-least. Eiji, after consuming all those Cell medals, has a heavier walk than Gamel and it was nice to see Kougami have one last conversation with Dr. Maki. Remember that little gift box that we saw in Satonaka's car seat about 2 episodes back? That contained a set of temporary Core Medals for the TaToBa form. OOO in TaToBa combo and having all those Cell medals in him makes short work of a fully revived Uva who had beaten both Births to a pulp. For this fight, I thoroughly enjoyed it as we also get the 3rd and final time in series of OOO using his Rider drop kick while in TaToBa combo. Of course, Maki saves Uva but only in making him the container. I nearly laughed myself silly at seeing Uva running for his life from Maki. Then, after Uva became the destruction device, Eiji (in PuToTyra combo) and Ankh team up to deal with the stronger Garbage Yummies. This was nice as I love seeing the series hero fighting scores of enemies without a possible single ray of hope. It just makes it that much more satisfying in seeing them beat the odds. Of course, the two Birth's take over the battle with Satonaka aiding them which allow Ankh and Eiji to confront Maki. They actually do a fairly good job but Maki proves to much to strong as he catches the MedaGabRyu as it comes down on him at full swing. Maki then drives his hand into Eiji and we actually see a whole lotta Cell Medals making up the inside of Eiji's body. Our boy is becoming more Greeed by the second. but OOO has a final trump card in store. He then ejects all of the cell medals within his body and out into the air and then has them all fly into the MedaGabRyu, giving it so much power that the force from the swing alone supposedly destroys Maki. But, again, the bugger just won't die. He then knocks Eiji out of his PuToTyra form and Ankh out of his Greeed/Human hybrid form. In a last ditch effort, Ankh sends his last 3 remaining Core Medals to Eiji. Eiji, with his vision going back and forth between human and greeed, sees his Taka medal damaged beyond repair. Ankh disappears from Shingo's body and Eiji, after giving it one last thought, inserts all three medals into the driver and transforms. Now this was just a touching scene as the two friends join forces one last time. When the O-Scanner is passed over the Medals, we hear Ankhs voice shouting out the 3 medal names instead of the scanner but the scanner still shouts out TaJaDor. That's right guys, TaJaDor is back and for the series finale...along with the theme song, 'Time Judged All'. This was just amazing as TaJaDor is probably my most favorite form for OOO. Sad it was only used around...what, a total of 6 times throughout the whole series and in Movie Wars CORE. TaJaDor completely fights Maki tooth and nail in a near even and Eiji is aided by Ankh's spirit. Maki then flees up into the destruction device with Eiji coming right after him. Yeah, okay, now I didn't care for this part that much. Good going for Uber powerful villain going right into the heart of the device that's supposed to end the world, real smart Doctor! Kobayashi...not a good scene that much. but the last fight within it was good. Eiji, with his will, summons all 7 of his Purple Medals and has then set into the TaJya-Spinner. The Giga Charge is activated and both Eiji and Ankh combine the last of their powers and actually defeat Maki. His body breaks apart and becomes a type of black hole that sucks up everything about the destruction device. Even all the Core Medals are sucked up and destroyed, including the 7 Purple Medals from the TaJya-spinner and the Kujaku and Condor medals from Eiji's belt. Eiji then is seen falling to his death in an unconscious state. Now this was most likely the most touching scene in the whole episode and one of my top 5 favorite touching scenes of this series. Ankh's arm, in a type of spirit form, wakes Eiji up and they have one final discussion. After a moment, Ankh disappears with Eiji reaching out to him. He then checks his hand and notices that he's holding half of Ankh's broken Taka medal. Down below, Hana is also seen off by Ankh's spirit and she say a final thank you to him and then also finds the other half of his broken medal. Just before he can crash into the ground, Eiji is saved by Gotou as Birth whose is flying towards him with the aid of the cutter wing. He is then gently set down into the hands of all his friends: Date, Satonaka, Shingo, Hina and Chiyoko. The series then ends with all of them continuing on with their lives and we see Eiji who is still traveling around the world. He has both pieces of the shattered Taka medal in his possession and is supposedly accompanied by Ankh's spirit. so, in the end, Eiji looses the power to transform and Kamen Rider OOO is now gone. For my review on the episode, it wasn't the best of the series but it did have a lot of great scenes in it and seeing the bond that had formed between Ankh and Eiji was a great thing for any Rider series. It can also be said that OOO is now the 3rd series where the main Rider loses his ability to transform at the end of the series, currently preceded by Kuuga and Ryuki. Don't count Blade as Kenzaki is now a Joker. Eiji also returned to being human so the Greeeds are no more. For Kaijin, the Greeeds were actually interesting but many of them were often downplayed from their true potential but only allowed to shine in episodes leading up to their deaths. The only Greeed that lived up to its potential throughout nearly the whole series are Ankh and Kazari. That's it for now, the spoiler tags will be removed once TVN releases their subbed episode. Then we can have a complete series overview. Edited August 29, 2011 by Ryuki for pete's sake, spoilers for a DIFFERENT series in the same tag? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I had come in here ready to give my thoughts about the final episode of OOO, but now i'm trying to process the fact that you just utterly spoiled the ending of blade in a spoiler tag for OOO. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 Understandable...but here I thought you would never read a spoiler tag until the sub was out. Well, Sorry about the slip. Though I do wonder how many times people, including myself, have made this same mistake with both Blade and other Rider series. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 all the more reason we all need to be careful. just remember people like odin who I believe is relatively new to tokusatsu. odin is watching OOO but i do not know what past series he has seen. anyway, I watched the OOO's time release of the final episode last night, as fourze is coming out next week. I am fully expecting to watch the raw of fourze and probably will do for the first few eps. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 Over-Time already has it subbed? Gee, and here I was thinking it wasn't out yet. Shows you how much sleep I'm running on. Yeah, forgot Odin is practically new to KR. And so is Durendal mostly when it comes to the Heisei era but he's viewing them by streaming as best he can. Quote
durendal Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Just to be clear, I'm not a KR noob. I just happen to start with Showa and didn't pay much attention to Heisei when it was released. I'm finished with Kuuga by the way and the ending was such a let down. Anyway, as not to be off topic, I managed to see the last scene of OOO's by chance when I happened on youtube (which is also the reason why I'm here). So that was his final form? Interesting. Also the ending didn't have much emotional impact on me especially the dialogue between Eiji and Ankh, probably because I haven't seen squat of it. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 Sorry, I meant that you're mostly new to just the Heisei Era in general but not to Kamen Rider as a whole. Yeah, the purple combo, PuToTyra is his strongest form. the red combo, TaJaDor, is the OOO equivalent of Double's Fang-Joker form. I'm just glad to see it get used one last time. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 i was glad to see the things that we saw. personally I felt that the outcome was not competely satisfactory based on the things that were suggested and the things I have experienced in real life. so eiji finally told his desire, but it didn't really feel like much of a resolution, since he was essentially persuing that the whole time. so he was very depressed, suppressing his desires, but i think that his actual desire is not what he said. I think his desire was supposed to be that he wanted to be together with his friends. but he ws afraid to get close. so in that sense, after all the fighting, that was really nice. but i would have preferred it to be reversed. to see that point occur BEFORE the big fight. I would have preferred to see that be eiji's true desire. if you thnk about it, the yummy create cell medals from desire being satisfied. so in my opinion if eiji realised his true desire, to be around his friends, then he realised his friends are with him, there would have been a huge amount of cell medals created. seeing his friends sending all these cells medals to him would have been SUBARASHII. and would have given a very powerful message about accepting your friends help and caring when in a time of need. but i guess it is a complicated story and would need a lot more study. I may have missed a few points that the creators were trying to put across. it was sad to see ankh go. but the way he joined eiji in that fight was so cool. just appearing momentarily and knocking maki off balance. that was so sweet. Quote
Toku Warrior Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 Yeah, that's a good way to look at it. but is it me, or are they poking at a small point in that Eiji is probably going to find a way to revive Ankh and restore his Taka medal? By all means, if they do a 3rd Movie War for OOO and Fourze, they'd need to get this part resolved. Quote
LordSpleach Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Right now OOO is my second favorite series just behind Double. The suit was better in OOO but W had a better story and I don't think anyone can beat the ending it had Quote
odin Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 yeah, I am pretty new to Kamen Rider and tokusatsu in general, the only one i have ever followed passionately even before coming here and knowing what is Tokusatsu is Godzilla cause is the series I grew up with since very little, I don't really mind knowing the endings of a series and stuff cause is one thing being told how it ends and another thing is actually watching and experiencing it, at least that's what I feel anyways, I will try to give my review of the series later, need to give it a bit more thought before giving it my final impression, I did gave it a brief summary of what i felt about it on the thread where one says what has one watched or is currently watching tho.
