I hope you don't mind if I correct you a bit. But Piccollo was a major villain when Goku was still young. These were the times that the terms Saiyans or Nemiks did not exists. It was only later that Piccollo became an ally of Goku. (this was after the time skip, even then, at first they still regarded Picollo as a villain). This is where opinions come in. I cannot say that your idea would be right or wrong, because these are your opinions. Consider that there are millions of people in the world who have their own opinions. Although you and me might not enjoy dragonball, I have spoken to many people who have enjoyed Dragonball Evolution.

Also, the time being close to midnight (Christmas Eve) in our region, I wish you a Merry Christmas.

did you see the interview with kevin smith with regards to the superman movie?

if not, i will search for it and post it here.

long story -> short = the producers are ultimately responsible.

it is them that have the money and when they want to do something, then they will do it.

if the producer wants to do dragonball, and has the rights, then he will do the dragonball that he wants to do. it is an already well established cash cow and as a result it can be appropriately raped. just like mario.

he may have just seen one or two images from it. he may have never seen or read it.

so he just tells the director what he wants and the director does his best.

in this case, it doesn't matter what the fans want. this producer is after money, not fan praise.

he has the name of dragonball and he is gonna make HIS movie. the parents will pay into the movie because parents don't have a clue.

end result is that the DVD will sell. mission accomplished.

merry xmas durendal. and tales.

Ah yes, I have seen that interview. I think it was more of a speech. The producers wanted him to write a script that would involve giant mechanical spiders. The producer wasn't able to produce a superman movie, but instead Wild Wild West came out.

But with your example, sometimes the director would have more authority on this. He could change the script whenever he wants. Example would be Batman & Robin. What kind of idiot would wear a costume with Nipples? Cheesy one liners? There are a lot of things wrong with that movie but I'm not gonna start. I guess what I'm trying to say is that when you say producers, you are referring to the creative team as a whole. If one critical production team has issues with the overall direction of the movie, he could just refuse to participate. Perhaps this is another reason why so many titles from different media, even though very popular, has not seen the light of the silver screen. Like what Kevin Smith said about the superman movie. Everybody knows who superman is. Now what kind of director or writer would want to work on a superman movie has elements that are absolutely inconsistent with the concept? This is probably the reason why the new superman movie came out so late.

no when i say producer I mean producer.

the producer is the bottom line.

most of the time, the creative team know what they are doing. they get to their position with their abilities, not by simply having money.

even if the producer is not telling the team what to do and keeping his nose out, if the end product is bad, it is the producers fault because he is not doing his job.

of course, sometimes there is a producer team and not just one person.

if ther eis a bad set designer, the producer can get rid of him and get a new one that can do the job.

if there is a bad director, the producer can replace him.

the producer is ultimately responsible.

Could you be referring to the Executive Producer? I'm not really very familiar with the terms and the responsibilities, but aren't the Executive Producers the one that shells out the budget for the movies?

it can vary. the teams can use different terms in slightly different ways.

in general, the executive producer is the person who provides the funding at the basic level.

let us say that in a company, there is a CEO and there are managing directors etc. the production company are like a parent company. the director is not usually part of that company. the producer more than likely is. the executive producer is the head guy, probably the owner.

the executive producer is generally not involved, perhaps checking in with his producer now and then to see if things are going ok. the producer is the high level creative control. some producers are very hands on and exercise a lot of creative control. some producers prefer to give the director more control. of course a director role is essential.

if the producer does not need a director and is totally hands-on then he will usually be credited as producer and director.
