Godzilla & Ultraman were created by the same guy.

Tsuburaya only did the special effects for the first 9 or 10 Godzilla movies but he was the creator of the Ultraman series. Heck, alot of the suits in the early Ultra shows were modified suits from Godzilla movies. The Baragon suit was heavily used for a lot of monsters like Neronga, Magura, and so on. Heck, one of the monsters was pretty much Godzilla but with a frill attached.

they have different production values though. ultraman is made for a weekly tv show. the monsters are not intended to make as much of an impact and need a lesser budget and simpler design.

godzilla is made for movie and as such has bigger budget for creature design.

this is what i expect, but i don't know for sure. godzilla fans can confirm?

Actually, there's quite a few popular ultra monsters such as Gomora, Baltan, Zetton, Red King, Eleking, Pygmon, Goldras, Silvergon, King Joe, and then there's the Ultras themselves. Ultraseven is one of the most popular Ultras out there and I'd say he's probably even more popular than the original Ultraman. Personally, I wish Toho would let Tsuburaya studios create Godzilla films or at least do the fight scenes for them. They still know how to make quality monster fights unlike Toho. I'll use these as my examples:

Oh and there's been some duds in the Godzilla series. The King Ghidorah and Rodan suits were looking pretty rough during the later Showa films and the Heisei Godzilla suit was literally falling apart in Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla. The flying props for many of the Heisei kaiju were pretty terrible as well. As for creature design, GMK King Ghidorah looked pretty ugly and Orga was a very bland monster. Overall, I'd say that Godzilla kaiju tend to have more detailed designs compared to the Ultraman monsters.

Also, apparently David Goyer stopped working on the Superman reboot to work on Godzilla and that pissed off some Superman fans from what I hear.

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) is my favorite Godzilla movie. The music is great, Showa Mechagodzilla is badass, the fights were great, and all in all it was a decent Godzilla movie.

I just got myself another Godzilla Movie to my collection this time it's Godzilla Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack and I must say I loved this movie, Godzilla looks very menacing the special effects are decent enough and the humans are at least competent enough and don't slow down the action and it surprised me to see Ghidorah being a good guy for a change....I think this is the second time if I'm not mistaken, I am almost there trying to complete my godzilla movie collection, now i need to hunt about 6 more movies, I just hope Godzilla vs Biollante has been released on DVD cause i don't think i could find that movie on VHS anymore and i loved that movie.

Ah GMK, the fan favorite (usually) of the Millenium Series. I loved Godzilla and Baragon's suits in this movie. The Godzilla vs Baragon battle was fantastic and I enjoyed Godzilla battling the military. Didn't care for Waspthra or King Ghidorah though. It would've been interesting if Toho had allowed Kaneko do the movie the way he intended it to be (Originally, it was gonna be Anguirus, Varan, and Baragon but Toho wanted some popular monsters besides Godzilla to help boost ticket sales and stuff so they made him replace Angy and Varan with Mothra and King Ghidorah.)

it surprised me to see Ghidorah being a good guy for a change....I think this is the second time if I'm not mistaken,

Eh, the only other time Ghidorah could be considered a "hero" was in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah after he was turned into Mecha King Ghidorah and even so, he was being controlled by people, so he wasn't doing it of his own free will.

There's been talks of a possible Region 1 dvd release, but who knows if it'll actually happen. I heard that Quentin Tarantino tried to get Miramax to release it on DVD once though. Godzilla vs Megalon is finally getting a dvd release in August (I think, plus the release date might on us...again) but it'll be a barebones release (in other words, no special features, just the film). I'm just gonna wait til the special edition comes out, unless the company that's making the Megalon dvd goes bankrupt or something.

So has anybody read any of IDW's Godzilla comics yet? Kingdom of Monsters sucked, but Godzilla: Legends was awesome and so was Gangsters and Goliaths. Let's just hope the new ongoing series and next mini-series are great too.

I heard about the IDW comics but i have not gotten the chance to read them yet, btw the Giant monsters all out attack DVD that i have has a somewhat unreliable sub specially at the end, I know that i have a long way to go before I am fluent on my japanese but but what i heard and read on the movie just stuck out like a sore thumb too much, well at least i have the movie so I can't complain much, once i have the money I would probably hunt down DVD's with more reliable subtitles.

Thanks for clarifying about Ghidorah Purgstall.

Again, skip Kingdom of Monsters but check out everything else. Kingdom of Monsters got much worse once Victor Santos took over for the artwork.

Which dvd was this? The Sony/Tristar one? If you're getting the Sony/Tristar dvds, then stay far far away from the Godzilla vs Megaguirus dvd. I dunno what went through their heads when they worked on that dvd. They messed up the picture quality so much that you can see the strings on the Megaguirus prop way too easily, especially during the night scenes.

Thanks for clarifying about Ghidorah Purgstall.

No prob.

yes they are the Sony/Tristar ones, thanks for telling me about the Godzilla vs Megaguirus dvd.

So yea, the new american godzilla is coming on 2013-14 is on the works for some time now and in the San Diego Comic Con 2012 the reveald a teaser trailer (which has not been shown public yet :( ) anyways I leave you with a description of the trailer that i found on numerous sources and an image of the movie poster AND a leaked image of Godzilla iin the trailer, thoughts and opinions are more than welcomed, I am still neutral about this since I have learned that a trailer can sometimes fool you into thinking that a movie is less awesome than it really is so I will keep reserved for now execpt that I am glad that they seem to be puting as much effort to please the fans of the big G, here is hoping the movie becomes a success.

"A city decimated. Completely destroyed. The camera pans by the wreckage of a train, A distant voice is heard reading from the Book of Revelations. Dust everywhere. Cars crushed. Holes in skyscrapers.

We then see a giant centipede-like creature with many arms and legs smoldering. (You know what that means? Monster battles!) The city appears dead as a doornail. Then blackness. THE ROAR. As in THE roar. Huge bass drop. Raymond Burr finishes his famous speech. Dust...then an arm... a hand... with claws. Pan up... holy drenn... the fins. The head. Godzilla. As we know him. The real smegging Godzilla. He roars again.

Fade to GODZILLA! With red Japanese title behind it."

hmm... do you think they could actually do it properly?

if they can steer clear of crappy hollywood producers, maybe.

the description sounds good and that image looks interesting.

I certainly hope so, from what i can tell they are at least making Godzilla fight a giant monster so that looks like its heading in the right direction although I do have some concerns about what the director said on the san diego comic con panel, he said that he wanted to give a realistic feel to godzilla and as we all know, you just can't do that first of all it is a giant atomic breathing lizard that depending on the writer is at least 100 feet tall, a creature like that can't be on the real world not to mention you can't even aproach it, it's all fiction and it should stay that way, I just want 4 things to be consistant with Godzilla:

1) Godzilla is a giant Lizard that Breaths atomic breath

2) He is indestructible so the army CAN'T take it down, just another monster of equal of greater strength.

3) He fights other monsters (they really need to be creative on this part cause just fighting the military gets boring quick.

other than that is an after thought, most godzilla films are not meant to be deep although it is debatable since the first one had a good message, and final wars was trying to be meaningful, but it is just all just crazy over the top monster battles that are meant for you to just enjoy the ride and not think to much of it, if they somehow manage to make a very good story with some hidden message then I am all for it, just give Godzilla enough screentime to make the movie at least worth watching cause ppl are not going to whatch a Godzilla movie for the humans, they are going for Godzilla.

well i think we can ask the following question.

which of the following did he actually say?

he wanted to give a realistic feel to godzilla

he wanted to give a realistic feel to godzilla

I'd love to see the true godzilla with all cool close-up detailed shots and with awesome facial animation.

also, it would be an excellent way to bring out his personality in his face. I am sure many fans have understood his character. while he is a giant killing machine, he also has some personality. I think he's kind of similar to the hulk in that regard, what do you think?

Apparently there where some godzilla movies that where not available on dvd yet cause of legal issues for example Godzilla versus Megalon and vs Biollante, just found it on specs near where I live so if any of you guys are still looking for those movies to complete your collection be sure to check out your local stores for them, I'll be getting those to by Christmas hopefully, would have bought them today but I got the tough decision to chose the whole 2005 Guyver anime that was just laying there and was the last one as well and where I live I don't see that many obscure series much, anyways just wanted to share that little info with you guys just in case if you guys did not know.

Yup. Currently the only Godzilla movie that hasn't gotten a region 1 dvd release is Godzilla 1985/Return of Godzilla. There were plans for it, but if I recall correctly Toho wasn't quite sure who still holds the rights to the movie in the US. I hope this situation is resolved soon.

Has anybody been keeping tabs with IDW's Godzilla comics? Kingdom of Monsters sucked, but Gangsters and Goliaths, Godzilla Legends and the Half Century War have all been pretty solid so far. The current ongoing series has its moments, certainly better than Kingdom of Monsters but it isn't as good as some of the mini series like Legends and Gangsters.

Since nobody has mentioned this yet, writing for the Legendary Pictures Godzilla movie is pretty much done. Filming starts in March, I think. They've already started some casting. No big names so far (doesn't surprise me). While I'm still keeping my eye on this, I'm kinda more focused with Pacific Rim at the moment. Its shaping up to quite a movie. :D

ahh I see did not know 1985 is not available for dvd yet, good to know and thanks. I have been reading whenever I can I have read The Half-century war and the one that just says Godzilla I like the latter a lot more than the former although Half-century war is not that bad, need to check on those later been busy reading other stuff.

Wow just found this page, awesome. I have been following Godzilla when I was like 3 and have been a fan since. Hell the first video game I've ever beaten was a Godzilla game (Godzilla: Monster of Monsters).

Well my favorites:

Hesei: Ghidora the Three Headed Monster. I just really liked how Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra worked together to defeat Ghidora. Plus I like the original idea for Ghidora being a space monster that destroys planets than any of his other iterations.

Showa: Godzilla vs Biollante. Come on the puppetry and look of Biollante's final form was just awesome.

Millenium: Godzilla, Ghidora, and Mothra Attack of the Three Gaurdian Beasts. I liked how they returned Godzilla to his roots as being a really pissed off motherf***er that wants to destroy Tokyo (world). However I was shocked to see King Ghidorah as a good guy, thats the one thing I really didn't agree with.

As for the upcoming Godzilla movie I don't think we really need to worry about another abortion like the 1998 version because it has been announced that Toho is giving a very short leash and is working really close with the project.

You got your eras mixed up. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster is in the Showa series of Godzilla films while Godzilla vs Biollante is in the Heisei series.

GMK is the only movie where he actually wants attacks Japan though. All of the other movies either have him under alien control (DAM, Godzilla vs Monster Zero), attracted to an energy source (Return of Godzilla and Godzilla X Megaguirus), or just wondering around Japan like a wild animal and destroys stuff by accident/in his way (There's way too many examples).

As for Ghidorah being a good guy in GMK, it does bug me but at least he is still Godzilla's nemesis.
