Purgstall Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 who here Likes King Kong vs Godzilla? and who would like to watch a remake of that movie? I sure do, the original was awesome and is the second Godzilla Movie i ever had and still have on VHS. Not a fan of the Kong suit, other than that it was decent. I wanna see the Japanese version though since the American version butchered it. who has watched Godzilla 1985? and who got scared at godzilla when you saw this movie? I did, the atmosphere of the movie had that perfect feel in terms of making you feel scared plus Godzilla's design and roar completed the effect too so it is a classic for me. Godzilla didn't look scary, he looked high in RoG/G1985. Much like the first Godzilla movie and KKvG, the American and Japanese versions have alot of differences. I want to watch the Japanese version as well just to see how different it is. There were some things in the American version that I liked like Raymond Burr's speech at the end. Quote
Bobby Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 The last MechaGodzilla movie I saw featured a cameo by Hideki "Godzilla" Matsui who later played for my favorite team the New York Yankees. Quote

Godzilla X Mechagodzilla, the first of the Kiryu Duology. Basically, if you've seen this one then you already know the plot of the second one but add in Mothra. Quote
river_chaos Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I'm a Godzilla fan, and my brother is an even bigger fan of Godzilla (he has the original VHS movies). Quote

Purgstall Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Here's some info about the Legendary Pictures Godzilla film if anybody is interested, it's not much though. Quote
Purgstall Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Turns out that there will be a new Godzilla comic book series from IDW Publishing and it will be coming out in February 2011: http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/10/08/nycc-exclusive-godzilla-comics-idw-toho/ I'm excited for this. We may be getting new monsters and returns of old faves. Personally, I hope that they keep Krystalak and Obsidius out of the comics. I just didn't like them. Obby was just your generic lava monster and Krystalak was just bleh. I'm interested in seeing what these new monsters could be. Perhaps they could be some of the trading card game monsters or maybe Bagan. Quote
odin Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 awesome, I will try to keep myself up to date on this then, looks like i will be collecting this series whenever i can. Quote

Purgstall Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Found this while looking at Gransazer stuff: http://www.toho-a-park.com/character/godzilla/index.html That website is old. Also, we got new info about the Godzilla comic: http://kaijucast.com/2010/10/08/10-08-2010-godzillas-triumphant-return-to-sequential-art/ Personally, I wasn't surprised that Spacegodzilla, Destoroyah, Battra, and Titanosaurus were returning. But I am certainly excited to see them return. I wonder how they're gonna handle Spacegodzilla's origin though. Quote
Mirabilis Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I love Titanosuarus! He is my favorite monster besides Godzilla, I was so happy when they had him in the game Unleashed, and was dissapointed when they took him out of Final Wars. I believe I've seen some images from an earlier Godzilla comic...maybe I am confusing it with something else. But thanks so much for this Purg'stall! I look forward to getting into the comics. As for the Kingkong film odin metioned a while back, I loved that film when I was a child, simply because I was terrified of king kong when I was little, and I loved godzilla. Seeing my hero beat up the monster of my nightmares was just all too cool for me, especially when I was so young. Quote

Marvel comics did a few Godzilla comics back in the 70s and 80s and then Dark Horse did some back in the late 80s and 90s. Then there were a few mangas of the Heisei Godzilla films (or at least most of them, I think) and Godzilla 2000. I happen have the first issue of the Marvel Comics Godzilla series. http://www.tohokingdom.com/comics.htm#jm Edited October 11, 2010 by Purgstall Quote
Purgstall Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Been needing to give updates on the upcoming IDW Godzilla comic but I keep forgetting to do it. Here is are a few links to some info about it: http://www.tohokingdom.com/news/2010/12-16_godzilla_monster_world.html http://www.idwpublishing.com/news/article/1539/ Some promo art, I believe, for the comic: http://www.ifanboy.com/files/images/pmontgomery/GodzillaMW01_cvrB_Powell.jpg Personally, I'm getting really excited for this considering we're getting some big names on this series like Alex Ross. It makes me relieved that we'll be getting some people who'll treat the characters with respect. I also like the idea of the story. I hope that IDW can get Bob Eggleton, Chris Scalf, or Arthur Adams to do some artwork for the comics considering they have done some impressive artwork like this: Quote
odin Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) haaa, thanks for keeping us up to date purgstall, much appreciated definitely going to use that promo art as a wallpaper. Edited December 19, 2010 by odin Quote
Purgstall Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 haaa, thanks for keeping us up to date purgstall, much appreciated definitely going to use that promo art as a wallpaper. No prob. I do hope that the actual artwork in the pages will look better than the promo pic and they probably will be. I like most of the character designs, but there were a few things that bugged me in the promo pic like Godzilla's tail. It just looks weird to me. Kumonga, Mothra, and Rodan look great. Apart from his tail, Godzilla looks great. Not quite sure on how I feel about Anguirus and King Ghidorah. King Ghidorah looks fearsome, which I like but I also kinda got a Kaiser Ghidorah vibe from him for some reason, which I don't like. I just don't know about Anguirus. I have no real opinion on him for some reason. I do really like the cover for the first issue. That looks really impressive. Quote
odin Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 i see what you mean, his tail is a little too long, other than that he does look OK. Quote
Purgstall Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 http://ryalltime.wordpress.com/2010/12/27/godzillas-kingdom-of-monsters/ I found some new info about the comic. Godzilla's look in the comic has been finally revealed and the title of the comic is now Kingdom of Monsters instead of Monster World. Personally, I'm glad about the name change. Sounds so much better than Monster World. As for Godzilla's design, it's ok, I really don't like his snout though. It looks dog-like. Other than that, it looks good. Quote
Purgstall Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Got another update, the director for Legendary Picture's Godzilla remake is revealed to be Gareth Edwards of Monsters fame: http://www.tohokingdom.com/news/2011/01-04_godzilla2012_director.html To be perfectly honest, I'd rather have somebody else rather than this guy. Despite Monsters winning a few awards, I have heard several people complain about the movie. I haven't seen Monsters yet, though a friend of mine showed me a clip of it and honestly I wasn't overly impressed with it so I'm a little bit worried about this remake. I think that this movie has been the only one he's made so far as well so if the Godzilla remake fails, then it'll be over for this guy's career which would be a shame. I'd kinda prefer somebody has more experience in filmmaking. I do know that Tim Burton, Tarantino, Spielberg, and John Carpenter are Godzilla fans, I'd kinda wish that one of them would've taken the job. I have heard that Burton is directing an adaptation of the board game Monsterpocalypse, so that does have excite me a little bit. Quote
odin Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 interesting, an unknown director for the godzilla film, this may go both way, either very good or very bad, hopefully very good since he could use this movie to make himself known to the world, he may actually put a lot of effort on this movie, only time will tell. Quote
Night Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Wow I didnt know that they had already picked a director, I guess if Legendary thinks this guy will do good then I guess we will have to trust them. Me being a HUGE Godzilla fan I really want this film to be a sucess Quote
Purgstall Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) Apparently, Timur Bekmambetov (Nightwatch, Daywatch, Wanted, and he was the producer in 9) might be helping on writing the story for the new Godzilla reboot/remake/whatever: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/north-warwickshire-news/2011/01/12/nuneaton-film-director-could-be-offered-hollywood-blockbuster-deal-92746-27970150/ Edit: The news about Timur helping write the new Godzilla remake is confirmed to be messup. He and Edwards are working together on a new sci-fi film, just not this movie. Edited January 14, 2011 by Purgstall Quote
Purgstall Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Just a heads up, the first issue of the IDW Godzilla comic series now known as Kingdom of Monsters will be coming to comic stores on March 30. Also, there will be a miniseries called Gangsters and Goliaths about a detective who gets captured by the yakuza and they drop him off on Monster Island. Not only does he have to face the Yakuza there, but he will have fend himself against the kaijuu living there as well. http://www.tohokingdom.com/news/2011/02-22_godzilla_idw_sum.html http://www.tohokingdom.com/news/2011/03-18_godzilla4_idw.html Quote
