Kamui de' Tempest Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Ok, I know I haven't been around for awhile but upon my return i have a boggling question. We know that Mitochondria are like energy makers of the cells through symbiosis. My question is what would happen if the mitochondria in every cell of a host body was replaced with nano sized arc reactors like the one Tony has in his chest in the new Iron Man arc Iron Man:Resilient and then bonded with a Unit-G? or any of the various Unit's out there. What could you speculate would happen? How do you think it would effect host and unit? I know it's a far fetched idea but I'm hoping to get some plausible far fetched (sounds like an oxymoron right?) answers. Quote
Aranor Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 I am using an idea like this in another story I am working on. I think I posted the data file here. http://warriorguyver.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=4325 The character created a new form of mitochondria which open vortexes into the ether creating a stream of pure enery which they tap into and draw from. Much like a water wheel taps into a river to draw energy in the form of motion. This allows him to not only have a virtually unlimited amount of energy but a virtually unlimited amount of energy everywhere in his body ready for use with little travel. The cells were designed in two forms, first with a one way portal drawing energy from the ether. Upon using them he had no means to turn them off forcing them to draw raw energy until they burned out nearly killing him. The second opens two portals similar to north and south fields on a magnet directing energy out of one and into the other creating the energy stream. For a guyver unit to manipulate a system like you are suggesting I would question what is the power limit on a control medal. In the fan fics we see multiple forms of the CM with new style units. In the anime we see the original CM get an add on when equipping the gigantic. The CM basically has what I described above in a more controlled fashion and is able to draw enough energy to regenerate the host body and armor from raw energy in a short period of time. Thats a lot of energy requirement. One could say the CM speeds up the body's cellular devision capabilities but the matter needs to come from somewhere. And to generate matter from energy. Well, we can't do that yet. So my guess would be you would have a unit that could run full power constantly so long as the CM could monitor and distribute the energy properly. But I would think something like losing an arm (where some of these cells would be hanging around) would cause a temporary handicap. Though the other cells may be able to pull in more energy keeping the CM supplied at with full power at all times. Much like a multi server system (blade series). One processor goes down the others speed up to make up the difference. Quote
Sully Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 You're also going to need to give it some fan theory to why the body of the host keeps making them too. Your body at this moment in time is replacing loads and loads of cells every second. The question would be why would the host keep regenerating these? Why also would this work when the host of the Guyver is dormant? Or can it ever be dormant? Your character might end up like Cyber Guyver totally no longer human being the extreame end of it. The idea of giving it another layer on the control medal is good, question is where that goes when it is dormant? Would it stay lets say attached to the spine to monitor the host when the rest of the Unit is dormant? Quote
*zeo Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Mitochondria has its own DNA, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_DNA Basically the first symbiosis that kick started evolution into high gear... So you can basically go with the idea that these new type are also organic based and self replicating in a symbiotic relation with the host cells. But the energy they produce has to be compatible with the host cell. So either the energy produced is a type that the host cell can use already or the host cell has to be altered too and that can lead to as Brian suggested with the host eventually no longer being human. Since simply feeding raw energy to human cells will only cook them, unless you want to dream up some life force type energy, then realistically you'll have to alter the host cells. Especially the DNA, since energy of that magnitude would easily damage normal human DNA. Then you just have to ask yourself where you want to take this idea... Quote
gelionlegends Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Just a thought that could help, though it wouldn't be nano sized though. Well here is a crazy idea working on the arc generators. How about the person has a organ or group of organs (your choice) and either the size of the pancrease/kidneys or larger or smaller (your choice). Like i said these organ/s would be the organic arc generators that provide power/energy to the mitochondria and sort of give then a boost of sort so that they don't burn the body out as i think that is what happened with the creatures in the game parasite eve. They didn't have enough energy and so burned out their body or with eve caused organics to combust. This way it sounds to me slightly better than replacing the mitochondria. Then i think you would have regeneration similar to wolverine and some level of adaption like he does to posions, virus and so on that would be in some way like the warrior type guyver has though i would think that it would be slower than the WG types. Then the person would have either 3-4 ways of using them on is just off so only the mitochondria normal energy levels though maybe higher as they have to be able to handle the influx of energy tha come in. Then like a tap opening up so only a trickal of water or in this case energy gets through boosting the mitochondria to higher levels. The third half way open. And the fourth all the way and this one would be the most dangerous level as you would be drawing large amounts of energy and pushing/pumpoing it into the mitochondria increasing their power out put to levels possibly akin to say a hyper zoanoid or zoalord. then again maybe guyver level or one of the other types of guyvers. Though this is all in human form and so if you link it to the 8 gates in the naruto manga using the fourth level can be very dangerous pending on how long you have it open for. That and it is likely the person could just explode in a firery bomb like explosion. While in guyver mode i would think that it would be much safer as the CM could possibly handle the flows of energy released into the host. With them being organs i am sure you would think that they could be removed and studied and i thought of that and that they could have a fail safe that destroys the organs if removed from the host after a certain amount of time, heck maybe explode if to far away. Then again if you are going the machine route then it would be small arc generators placed in strategic places to better empower the person and act as back ups in case one is destroyed, removed or the need to draw more energy is need, same with the organinc versions. Maybe this would help, that and with the machine aspect it could be possible with what the WGU does know on power generations and such though they would have to make everything small to fit inside the body but also so that it works as it should. Heck the prototypes could over heat after a certain time and shut down.... or explode while the final verions handles it better and has a self repair so that should it get damaged it can shut down and fix itself while another goes to work. Though the organic version would have to be a creator experiment and likely either capturing the person and testing it on him/her or create some sort of virus that would infect the host/target and cause their body to start growing the organs, this would also mean that they would be hunting food and other things that the organs need to function properly. After that getting a guyver unit as i think in some where in this section its talked about if the guyver unit would remove something like that i think? Though it could what is harmful like a diease/viruses/posions and so on, while non harmful more helpful things the unit would likely leave alone??? Quote
ki805 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 All this talk of mitochondria has got me curious as to what would happen if Aya from the Parasite Eve series were to bond with a Guyver unit? Quote
