guyverfanatic Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Can we please have a rule for spelling and grammar. It certainly detracts from the forum, not too mention, it's hard to read when people do not put forth the effort to use proper spelling and grammar. >_ Quote
W'Kar Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 We used to, three strikes then out. Went as well as a 2 year old, ice cream, and an expensive car. Quote
*zeo Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 And I got exhausted editing everyone's post to proper grammar... Which is why you are noticing it now Quote

Matt Bellamy Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 It's an unfortunate thing, spelling and grammar. Especially when it's tough to get new members when you don't seem to like to update the website at all. If the problem is bad enough, we will PM someone and ask that they at least try to improve... but the 3 strikes rule for Grammar warnings is a bit dated, and I think that we have mellowed a bit more now, especially since we are not the only Guyver forum on the net anymore. Personally, I don't think we need to loose any more members than we already have in the past. Quote
Thunder Demon1472669266 Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 No, but it is a problem. And yeah, I have noticed now too. It's sort of one of my pet peeves about the internet. People seem to not care that even in online forums, English Grammar, and Language Grammar in general still apply. The shortcuts that people use are fine for IM, but even then, it's not necssarily a good idea. Especially, when someone might not know what you mean. Like me, I know very few of the shortcuts that people use. One like lol is okay, but there are the Emoticons that we have instead to use too, so it's not like you don't have alternatives. Personally, I try to do things correctly, because otherwise, I can't understand it. Call me IM illiterate, but it's the way I am. Nine times out of ten, I'll completely ignore what that person wrote not out of spite, but because I can't understand and read it. If I can't do that, I'll ignore it nine times out of ten. The one time of ten I do read it, is because it is at least written grammatically correct. Quote
McAvoy Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Normally I wouldn't bash on people without someone doing it to me first. But there is a specific person that does this. Today I spent maybe 5 minutes trying to figure out what he wrote on two sentences. There has to be something that could be done. I can deal with the usual lol and so forth alittle bit, but every word? No that annoys me as much as everyone here I think. Quote
W'Kar Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I couldn't agree more. I'm forgiving about spelling and grammer... to a point. There are times where it becomes more like an exercise in lingustics to read someone's post, but we can't constantly edit posts and slap peoples hands. I'd just hope that posters will be more curteous in the future. Quote
McAvoy Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I agree. You can't ban someone from a board because he or she can't spell. Maybe they're using some sort of translator. Also, it's bad to ban someone for practically nothing. But maybe there should be a list of rules below the icon for the forum. The 1st or 2nd rule would be: Please write as clear as you can. Please write as clear as you can. Please write as clear as you can. Please write as clear as you can. Please write as clear as you can. Quote
