Armageddon Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 I was reading 7 Days part 3 when i ran across Gilgamesh. Is it just a name or is there something more to it? Quote
Guest Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 Jeez Gilgamesh is a W'kar reproduction in warrior guyver's world. The host for the unit is Derek prince and if you want to learn more bout him then read seven days of hell part 4. Quote
Armageddon Posted April 11, 2004 Author Posted April 11, 2004 ArchGuyver, I have read part 4 and know about Derek Prince. I wanted to know about the name. Is it just a name or is there some kind of meaning to it? Quote
Matt Bellamy Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 I think Brian just chose it because 1. Sounds pretty durn cool 2. Gilgamesh is a warrior that I have seen appear a few times in video games ( Final Fantasy 8 is my favorite version). I have no idea if he's based of previous lore or mythology, but I wouldn't doubt it. Quote
Armageddon Posted April 11, 2004 Author Posted April 11, 2004 I had no idea there was a character named Gilgamesh in FF 8. Though, it would have helped if i played any of the games. I haven't, but i found it interesting to find this out. After reading your reply, i did a little checking. This is what i found. n : a legendary Sumerian king who was the hero of an epic collection of mythic stories Gilgamesh \Gilgamesh\, Gilgamish \Gilgamish\prop. n. 1. (Sumerian mythology) A legendary king of Sumeria and the hero of famous Sumerian and Babylonian epics. [WordNet 1.5] The Epic of Gilgamesh, a long Babylonian epic written in cuneiform in the Sumerian language on clay tablets. Early versions of the written story date from 2000 B. C.; it is probably the first written story still in existence. A longer version was written in the Akkadian language, on 12 clay tablets found at Nineveh in the ruins of the library of Ashurbanipal, king of Assyria from 669 to 633 B. C. The story depicted the life and heroic deeds of the legendary Gilgamesh, apparently derived from stories about a real king of ancient Mesopotamia who lived around 2700 B. C. The story includes a tale of a great flood, which has some parallels to the biblical story of the flood survived by Noah. The Nineveh tablets name the author of that version of the story, a Shin-eqi-unninni. Matt Bellamy Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Strike 1 Frost for double posting, and trying to poorly cover it up. Quote
Guest Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 haha "trying to cover it up". anyways gilgamesh isnt a samurai warrior. he's (like stated above) a sumerian half-god half-human hero. appears mainly in ff5 and ff8. in ff5 he appeared as a major yet comical villain. Quote

Yeah, while in FF8 he replaced Odin, and had 4 sword attacks to choose from. ( that was cool when he came and claimed Odins sword.) Quote
BloodStorm Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Yeah, Gilgmesh kicked arse in ff8, but whenever I played, her only showed up during REALLY tough bosses to use either the rusted sword for one point of damage, or the Zantetsuken, which was entierly useless on bosses anyway..... Or he showed up when fighting a single REALLY weak enamy that even your weakest character would defeat with a single blow.. and STILL used the rusted sword.. Quote
