Gazham Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 How do you all pronounce the names of the zoanoids/zoalords etc? Spelling them phonetically. I've seen a few different translations from Japanese over the years. I'd like to have a defiantive list of translated names and how to pronounce them accurately! Any thoughts Nyone? Quote
*guyverfan Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 i know not to go by any of the viz comics translations! and the ova was close but not 100% . but the 2005 reboot was very accurate going by what has been said on the boards in the past. the jpl wiki was a really good source. and i'm sure there was a thread with a few character names which were retranslated. TricoBren Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Yeah those zoanoid names are damn pesky at times! Haha! Thankfully we have definitive names for the all the main characters like Archanfel, Apollyon, Jabir, Clumegnik etc but I agree, it would be nice to have a definitive list of Zoanoid names. I thought the anime was pretty accurate though right? The later ones though are a nightmare. One thing i do know though, is that many of the names written in english at the back of the tankobons are wildly off. I know they mean well but when it comes to romanizing Japanese into English, they usually bird it right up. Bless 'em! 2 Quote
Salkafar Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Yeah.... Zenkerb is spelled the same as Derzerb, basically, but somehow becomes 'Zencrebe'. That spoils the whole 'newer, better version of the product line' vibe. I wish we knew anything about the creative process vis-á-vis Zoanoid names. How does Takaya come up with them? Legend has it Terry Nation was sitting at his desk and thinking about a name for his new alien monster species, and his eye caught the spine of a dictionary: DAL-EKS. 1 Quote
TricoBren Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Actually, I'm gonna backtrack on what I originally said, I think we should stick with the Zoanoid names that are used in the back of the books. Just been flicking through the volumes now and I think most of them sound pretty cool! Quote
