¬./Anonymous¬ Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Newer, stronger, and faster computers are always being built. Will there ever be a day when computers reach their peak and cannot become any more powerful? I doubt that they will always be able to get more and more faster/stronger forever, but I often wonder will there always be a limit with current technology..? Now its is managed creating multi core CPU's... But that also will reach to a limit shortly.. then we will see some different technology which very much different from current semiconductor based technologies. Thoughts? Salkafar Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 "There's room at the bottom", but once you get below a certain size, quantum effects are going to take their toll and switches and circuits will become less reliable (and overheating will become a problem long before). Of course they are working on quantum computers that use qubits rather than bits. Once they get those to work we might be looking at a whole new vista of possibilities as regards speed... But since nothing is infinite, eventually things will hit a limit. Although it might take a very long time. Then again, from our own point of view, computers might be infinitely fast because they perform any task we give them the moment we do. Quote
