*guyverfan Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 i am a HUGE robotech fan. more so on the original macross saga anime and loved the amalgamation of the three parts which formed the english dubbed robotech series. so, for a long time i've been hoping for a live action adaptation of this series and i only just heard that warner bros. are planning one. aparently, toby maquire has acquired the rights and planning on producing a movie in connection with warner bros.(and maybe casting himself in the movie as the main character, which i'm not too hot on.) latest news i've heard is leonardo has agreed on a part in the movie! well, whoever the actors, i just hope they don't f@#k this up! i'd hate to see something i loved so much from my childhood get screwed up by hollywood. used to get chills of excitement up my spine when i used to hear and watch the intro of this series on tv back in the 80's when it was shown every saturday mornings. i still get the chills now. durendal Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Then you'd better be prepared to get screwed if this really happens. Hollywood never follows the original, thinking they know what fans want. How many times have they been more wrong? Macross will forever be what I saw during my childhood. A classic love story. I actually prefer the original TV series compared to the Do you remember love movie. I never saw much of Southern Cross but I hated Mospeada. 1 Quote
*guyverfan Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 agreed, i never liked the animated movies myself aswell, not as much as the original tv series. although the shadow chronicles wasn't too bad. Quote
Larz Zahn Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I liked macross, despised southern cross but adored mospeda. I'm looking for the Japanese version. I liked the invid invasion well enough but i watched the first episode of mospeda and was hooked. Quote
*guyverfan Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 i actually didn't mind southern cross with the robotech masters, probably because i thought dana was hot and a badass. mospeada could of been better, i guess i watched it 'cause it was tieing into robotech. Quote
*V Guyver Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Macross, awesome series> I'm hoping the series has some justice. My only Exosquad Toy was also a Macross Toy from Robotech Masters. Apparently were in the same universe and the third season was supposed to be an alien invasion from the macross universe. So yeah, Macross is big part of my love of science fiction along with Exo Squad. I only saw one of the movies, Macross II. I Have to admit, I'm not too big a fan of it, but the animation and combat was incredible... blew me away as a kid. Quote
durendal Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Macross II wasn't really part of the continuity. It goes Macross Zero => Macross => Macross Plus => Macross 7 => Macross Frontier But I did enjoy the songs in Macross II, especially the song "Aishiteru". I also liked the OVA better than the Movie. The movie feels rushed, although it's just basically the combined 6 episodes. Quote
*guyverfan Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Hollywood never follows the original, thinking they know what fans want. How many times have they been more wrong? yep, apparently the story is going to start with them already in deep space many years after the invasion of earth by the zentradi and the sdf1s' space fold. so i feel its going to be a movie with many flashbacks! i don't mind that, aslong as there's some action and meaningful and informative conversations inbetween and its done well.(please,no deep space love stories and don't cast nick cage in this, don't want every conversation to be depressing.) just have to wait and see i guess. durendal Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Surpisingly, I haven't heard any news of this. Usually when something popular like Robotech gets the hollywood treatment, the media will be all over it. Could it be possible that he budget for this movie is limited and would be considered as a B movie? Another possible reason is that I've been living under a rock all this time. Quote
*guyverfan Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 must be a really huge rock i did read about it somewhere last week on a reliable and official site, should of pasted a link to it here. unfortunately, started thinking about macross and watched a few old episodes, not to mention repeating the opening credits a few times(really loud) and it was all over for me! durendal Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Did you watch the robotech version or the original macross version? To this day, I loved the original macross series. In fact, I have the original Japanese version with english subtitles. This is the original opening without the credits. Quote
*guyverfan Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 only the english dubbed macross tv series that was rebadged as robotech for the u.s. and aust.(i've got the box set of this too) actually didn't think there was a huge difference except for the voice actors? oh, except that i know the storyline was changed alittle so it could be tied into southerncross and mospeada and vise versa. but didn't think the script was hugely changed from the original japanese version. i honestly don't think i'd be able to keep up with the subtitles and action at the same time. just like the live action movie of starblazers(space battleship yamato), i've worn out the pause and rewind buttons on my remote watching it!
