*PrimalNemesis Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Who has heard of this awesome line of figures? I have several! I absolutely love the quality! They are so durable and they look fantastic! Quote
Aether Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 unfortunately ive heard of them.. upon hearing of them i saw them and then i forced myself to part with hard earned ebay selling cash to get the damn things... this is after supposedly giving up collecting figures for a few years - but like you say they are fantastic!! what series do you like? *Jess♥ Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I've heard of them vaguely. not sure what they are all about. what do they do mostly? is it kamen rider? Quote
durendal Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I prefer SIC over the figuarts. I'd like to expound further, but thinking of toys at the moments upsets me as my favorite PG 1:60 Zeta Gundam had it's antenna broken. Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Figuarts started out making just Kamen Rider figures. Recently though they have been making Super Sentai and other goodies like One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Garo, and Godzilla! Have a neat little collection of my own. They tend to vary in price and will require some research. They are extremely poseable and highly durable! Their feet are made of die cast metal which gives the figures some weight to hold them down when posed. Some come with stands for extra articulation. Out of all the figures I have my crown jewel has to be my Kamen Rider Kuuga Ultimate Form. Here is a video review to give you an idea on what the figures are like. And here is one that I really hope to possess sometime in the near future! Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 hmm, I can't tell the difference between these and my s.i.c. figures. all i see is poseable figures. but then I guess that is because i am not really a figure fan! Quote
durendal Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Figuarts are usually faithful replicas of the characters, you can actually call these the official figures of the characters. SIC on the other hand are renditions of the sculptors Takeya Takayuki and Ando Kenji, based on how they imagine the characters, hence the label "Super Imaginative Chokogin". It is how they "re-imagine" them. SIC figures are usually much more grotesque or dark compared to the figuarts counterpart to fit the horror genre. You can clearly tell the difference on the earlier SIC models versus their Figuarts counterparts. But more recent SIC has either toned down their "grotesque" style, or that the designs of the characters themselves have grown "darker", which is probably why you might have difficulty telling them apart. Aether Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 (edited) i only have one S.I.C figure and that is the re release/ re articulated Garo figure.. all i can say is if you want to pose the heck out of a Garo figure get a figuarts, but if you want limited posability but an awesome sculpt then get the SIC because as amazing as it looks its articulation is crap. it falls apart all the time when you move it. it s one of the worst figures ive ever had and its supposed to be better than the older release for posability!, in this day and age of figuarts, figma and revoltech i cant understand how they could actually release such a poorly articulated figure.. i dont know how the other SIC figures compare?? However from Figuarts you can get super dynamic poses and your figure wont fall apart...also they are usually generous with accessories - the amount of stuff with dbz trunks was insane (but vegetas were lame). i got sucked in by the DBZ figures, i also got a Dekared figure aswell 1. because it was cool and 2. because it was relatively cheap Edited December 18, 2012 by Aether Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I get it. well I have some kamen rider faiz, with his wolf form, I also have ryuga and alternate zero, a gift from my bro. I don't display them because they fell over and alternate zero's sword broke. I glued it, but i don't want to risk it again so they stay in the box. I see how they could be re-imagined, but then I always assumed all toys/figures are taking liberties. the megazord toys are completely different from what we see on screen. but here is my issue... I wonder if a figure is made to be very close to the official character design, does it look plain and boring? you know, because it is tough to get the textures and lighting onto a figure. Quote
*PrimalNemesis Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Some figures are dead on while others are meh. Depends. Look up some of your favorite Riders and see how they look in some youtube reviews! I know that I am starting to become very interested in the Stronger figure! Quote
Aether Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 but here is my issue... I wonder if a figure is made to be very close to the official character design, does it look plain and boring? you know, because it is tough to get the textures and lighting onto a figure. well for anime figures the figuarts DBZ are the closest to Toriyamas designs that have ever been made (and thats sad to say for how long DB has been around) but for Tokusatsu im not sure... im not sure about them looking plain and boring? i think i would rather have a representation of a character rather than an artists / sculptors impression. speaking of real have you seen the RAH or Hot Toys figures?? back to figuarts and SIC, as far as that goes all i can speak on is Garo as its the only SIC figure i have - heres a comparison in pics of the detail on those figures... in this case Garo looks much better in the SIC version, you get a feel of the weight of his armour and the detail on the armour is great which is nt present on the figuarts at all. its just a shame the articluation isnt up to par on the SIC - its adiquate to get some nice standard action poses but its just not good for a super dynamic pose!! *Jess♥ Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 yeah, I am afraid that figuarts just looks like a childs toy to me. maybe because it is the type of thing I had when i was a child, the power rangers figures. the lack of embellishments makes it feel like it is made for an audience that lacks refinement. also the paintjob looks juvenile.
