*Jess♥ Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 thanks for sharing your views.you asked a question So, my question to the community is: Is there a way of supporting Guyver series and Takaya-san financially and directly? Hopefully, opinions I've shared won't offend "true" guyver fans. and our answer is this - purchase/subscription model for guyver manga You said you don't wish to buy the japanese manga, but that is currently the most efficient way to give our money to yoshiki takaya and the publishers. we pay for manga, we read the manga. if you truly don't want to have the book cluttering up your house, you can give it to your nephew or something and yes of course, you are right. copyright exists to protect the publisher. but that is not what copyright is supposed to be. in most people's eyes (which is what the law is meant to be about) copyright is supposed to be for protecting a creator of a story. unfortunately the law is a broken system and currently favours large corporations. but there are people working to fix that. Abersanbn Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Ryuki, I've been thinking about this business for the whole day and came up with an idea. It may be not a good one, but still, I'll give it a go: The aim of the Advocacy is to provide people with translations of Guyver manga while encouraging them to buy original merchandise from a certified reseller. Hope I got that right. So, ultimately, the goal is to support Takaya and his work. I believe that there are a lot of people like me who'd love to buy the manga, but only seek English version. And there is none in existence. So, in order to pursue the goal of the Advocacy we need to persuade some publisher to officially release English Guyver tankobons. I looked at the petition thread on this forum but as of now there are only ~120 people, who signed it and that number is not high enough. Plus, it doesn't have any real force, as anyone who signed may hesitate when it comes to actually giving their money. Thus, we have to create some other way for people to proclaim their desire of purchasing Guyver manga. And i think I have an idea on how to do that. We all know about Kickstarter and it's enormous contribution into funding lots of awesome projects. So, maybe, we could start a campaign to raise money for the case. And if the sum accumulated is enough it shouldn't be a problem to find a publisher, because they'll see that there are people willing to pay. You could promote this campaign through your releases – put some text on pages touting people to get involved. Of course, many will ignore this text, but some won't and we can eventually gather enough followers to make it happen. Also, once we have enough backers and we contact the publishers, we could tell them that there is already a magnificent translation by Advocacy in existence, which they could simply patch up. That, of course, if you don't mind that your work is used for such cause. And if they agree, your name could be inscribed in history of Guyver, being put on the back page of every English Guyver tankobon. I realize that this is a bit idealistic and naive, but maybe you could consider it at least? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 A kickstarter is for a specific cause. It would be difficult to do a kickstarter and raise money and promise to give the money to a publisher. but even if that is good, there is the matter of dealing with kadokawa. people have said that chuangyi stopped releasing because of issues dealing with the publisher. I want guyver in english, but as long as we continue acting 'on faith' that people will be good little bunny rabbits and go and buy some merchandise out of the goodness of their hearts... we are part of the problem, not the solution. I know a Russian scanlation is produced from our work. We've always been fine with that. But perhaps that is part of this issue but you are reluctant to talk about it? I'll speak to Cannibal about that. Quote
Cannibal Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) I yet have to read the topic about manga-purchase-subscription, I'll do it asap.I'll just add that I have absolutely no relation to Russian Guyver scanlation team and I don't know much about their current works.---Ryuki, I PMed you an answer. *V Guyver Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 It just dawned on me, how much of the GA's work was on the torrent that was set up a while ago. Is that the possible source of the archive they used? Quote
