apparently this is old news but i only just found out that the Red Dwarf posse is back for series 10.

''The tenth series of the British science fiction sitcom Red Dwarf, is to broadcast on UK television channel Dave from 4 October 2012.[2] It will have six episodes and is the first full series of Red Dwarf since 1999''

to be honest i cant remember any of them past series 6 i think, but i'll still probably give it a watch.

I found out about this thanks to lordspleach via facebook.

I didn't realise it hadn't been mentioned here!

have you seen the teaser trailer?

from what has been shown, it looks like it may be classic boys from the dwarf. none of that crap like Katchinsky, or being put in prison.

I want to see ropey special effects too. I hope they have some of those.

and it's filmed in front of a studio audience, like it should be!

"Katchinsky", Ryuki? You wound me.

I do wonder how this is gonna happen. It's been... how long since the last regular series? 13 years? Is this gonna be 'Out of time' from the other side or something?

....

Hmmm, not much known yet. Boy I hope this won't suck. Doctor Who is kind of letting me down so far this year.

what a liberty, I typed it into google to try and get the right spelling.

that's what it gave me. I mean Kochanski.

I can't stand that character.

in my view, she was a poor substitute for Rimmer. and she was also a distraction from the male hijinx and comradery.

It was an attempt at changing the dynamic. How much further could they take Rimmer-the-prat before the formula wore out? He had to grow into something more, and the idea that the innate Rimmerness was the mere seed of something so much greater is appealing.

Also, there is a very Red Dwarf irony in giving Lister what he wanted for so long - Kochanski - and then of course there is the reality of the situation: she is not the ideal love princess of Lister's dreams, but just another person with her own issues.

Ah, but the problem was that the crew is supposed to be made up out of losers. Lister, arguably the ultimate irresponsible unrealistic slobby manchild, Rimmer, the hyper-neurotic emotional mass of frustrated ambition without talent; the Cat, the genetic dregs of his species; Holly, the formerly brilliant but now thoroughly senile computer; and Kryten, the corrupted and possibly insane service android. Kochanski doesn't fit in. She's too normal and well-adjusted.

Can they please finally meet the Cats? That would be interesting. If the elegant, creative and physically superior Cat is essentially the Cat equivalent of a cripple with Down syndrome, what are the normal specimens of his species like?

They already met the Gelfs, but what of the mechanoids? There was talk in the novels of large mechanoid civilizations who pay top dollar for human relics.

I would prefer if humanity hasn't died out, but ascended to a higher level of being. Which was suggested in the first episode anyway.

But perhaps Red Dwarf has had its day. It was a completely different time when it all began. Hello, you guys, when it began, the Berlin Wall was still standing! This is a different world.

As I write it, I am reminded of Doctor Who. When that started... well, when that started, JFK had just been murdered, of course.

perhaps the cats are like doctors? or businessmen?

you know, really well preened yet really successful, not really really stupid with merely an interest in how they look.

you're right about kochanski. she was too normal. she had this 'superiority' about her that just made her unlike-able.

I can't believe you don't like doctor who though, maybe we can talk about it in its own thread. I'd love to know on what levels you feel that it fails.

i'm sure there is already a thread for it somewhere.

yeah Kachanski was a fail from what i remember.

ha ha! imagine if they did show that the human race hasnt died and has ascended to a higher level of being and good ol dave lister rolls up smelling of curry and beer singing crap songs, with 3 other morons....

its funny because they are searching for something they'll never find because they will never fit in anywhere, they have essentially created their own world /universe and thats what i want to watch, where the 4 /5 travel around crazy planets and meet crazy beings and its all good fun along the way - thats how i remember Red Dwarf from back in the days, it cant be such a hard formula to replicate. they had some fails with the latter series so maybe they will just go back to basics for this new series.

yeah, it would have to be a different quality.

comedy has evolved.

but the general premise can fit with todays world.

the basic premise was something about 4 guys insulting each other and having a laugh.

this is typical british male comradery. the boys from the dwarf are just like workmates. or indeed schoolmates.

I look at them and it makes me think of when i used to work in GAME and we played all sorts of pranks on each other.

(like the time my mate hid in the dumb waiter style lift and scared the life out of the stock processor)

I'm not sure what this is like in other countries, but this still exists in the uk. that premise still works perfectly and their age also doesn't affect that.

i missed the beginning though :(

I must say though, this looks great and is as funny as ever!

I am so impressed by the set design. it looks amazing!

i kind of missed having seen the beginning of Lister's running joke through the ep, but it was still funny.

I have no clue. BBC America hasn't even advertised it, and I'm not sure if WETA UK(a public access channel) will get a chance to air the new episodes. Although they do play the reruns on Sunday nights for two hours. I am jealous of you guys.

would it show in BBC america? since DAVE produced it and they aren't part of the BBC.

when 'back to earth' showed on your tv, what channel was it?

p.s. I am sure you can find a way to watch it :)
