Aether Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 #6 - VIZ - Destuctive! - Chuang Yi - The Destuction of Chronos Japan - Advocacy - Big Turnaround! Destruction of Cronos Japan! Sho rejuvinates and saves Tetsuro - awesome!! Guyot divulges information on the creators and Cronos' plans to bend humanitys destiny to its own will for world wide domination and the fact that humans were developed as weapons and are the basis for the next step in evolution - the zoanoid. Translation differences : while all 3 explanations are slightly different they basically say the same thing, the main difference is the name of the aliens... Viz - Creators Chuang Yi - Creators Advocacy - Advents Advocacy, if this has been explained before i either missed it or cant remember?? i assume it is because they caused the 'Advent' of humanity? *Jess♥ Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 the term is kourinsha "é™è‡¨è€…" at a stretch you could say that is creators, but it is stretching too much IMO. sha means 'someone of that nature'. kourin means 'advent' or 'descent'. the most literal would be either the 'descended ones' or the 'advents'. we have had advents in past translations. can't remember where, it was some english publication. with some work, you might be able to make that mean 'creators'.... but more sensible ways to re-word it would IMO yield something more along the lines of 'visitors' since advent means 'coming'. daveblackeye152 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I always thought the sixth chapter was a slightly disappointg closer for the first adventure...so it really works out that Guyver continued after this. I mean there's no one on one fight and we don't have a lot of scenes of Sho fighting Zoanoids. And what with the sudden vibration blade anyway!? For years I figured he learned the high frequency swords while fighting Enzyme in chaper 5 but when I finally got the Viz volume I was shocked that he just pulled the power out of no where with no surprise. At least he reacted to the pressure cannon and Megasmasher debuts. Quote
Aether Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) the term is kourinsha "é™è‡¨è€…" Thanks for the explanation Ryuki. its never simple is it - i presume if Takaya wanted them to be calld creators that there is a standard word for that in japanese?? i now see where you are coming from with 'Advents' even though its not exactly what i thought, i think it fits both reasons that like you explained they 'came' down to earth and also caused the 'arrival' of humanity on earth. I think all the others dont sound as good - like 'descended ones' or 'visitors' - theyve ben done anyway. i like creators, you can tell why they used it but now i know exactly why Advents was used i like that just as much. I always thought the sixth chapter was a slightly disappointg closer for the first adventure...so it really works out that Guyver continued after this. For years I figured he learned the high frequency swords while fighting Enzyme in chaper 5 but when I finally got the Viz volume I was shocked that he just pulled the power out of no where with no surprise. oh well, i thought it was great. when you consider how much was packed into it, it worked well. amongst what G3 was up to Sho had to rejuvinate, save tetsuro, fight his way to Guyot, get an explanation of the Advents and escape while cronos Japan blew up!!! thats a bit to fit in!! Also the bare bones of this chapter, gave the OAV production a good story to work with and made it badass ( despite all the differences between them it still worked well.) as for the sudden vibration blades - i understand what you are saying... but heres a little theory... if you look at the first 2 times Sho Bio Boosts he is boosted with the blades extended, straight into an immediate life threatening situation, after that he boosts with retracted blades, so maybe after that second time he had learnt about them and gained control, and so from then on when he boosted he had to decide wether they were needed or not i.e whether to extend or retract them...? *Jess♥ Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 doing a little search, I found:- 'the creation' å¤©åœ°å‰µé€ tenchisouzou. 'creator' å‰µé€ ä¸» souzoushu 'creator' å‰µé€ è€… souzousha 'builder' é€ ã‚Šæ‰‹ tsukurite and more there are lots of ways of saying creator so yep to be honest, I'd never really thought about it this much until now. I just translated it (after durendal?) and thought "oh that is that term that was used before and i didn't really 'get' it ". just now after looking up the definition of the word 'advent' I finally understand it. it doesn't seem such an odd name now. Bio-Boosted Dude Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 You know, i've also always been a little unsure about where the name "Advents" came from. Reading your explanation ryuki, i prefer the term we have used much more to "Creators". it makes them sound a lot more god-like, which is appropriate all things considered. "descended ones" also has similar effect. also i sort of agree with dave with this one, this chapter is interesting, but quite bare bones. There's only so much you can do on paper though. The OVA did a good job of filling it out though. Quote
daveblackeye152 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Yeah good points from the other guys such as the high frequency sword thing. I remember the night I noticed the blades were extended in the first two issues I was like 'whoa!' Now MAYBE if I was first reading Guyver and didn't already know about aliens being involved I might have been shocked by Guyot's explanation closing the story being a good climax. Instead I already knew about it so it does feel like a bit of a let down even with the amazing development that the Guyver can regenerate. Now I liked the OVA retelling of it where there's a bit more action but I really love the anime version which is a two parter with a lot more drama to it. We got the ZerebuthXRisker rivalry ending, Agito setting the self destruct while casting suspicsion around other's motives, Hyper Zerebuth, Guyver II vs III briefly, Sho trying to figure himself out as a clone and other things.
