LordSpleach Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I don't know yet myself. Only up to episode 3. I will say it was interesting that they didn't know each other already or from the very beginning episode. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Odin, hmm, that is an interesting observation... I had not noticed that! are they the same colours? hmmm. so yeah it is good fun and i love how each of the characters is given their own life and their own auxiliary characters. That is not something I recall seeing very much of. I mean, i suppose the last thing I can remember of each of the characters having their own life, is hurricanger. I am specifically thinking of kouta's sister at the moment. but that was just one episode. it's kinda weird that they use samba i their transformations... I am still finding that a bit odd I wonder if they will offer some kind of explanation... Quote
Aether Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 watched the first 2 eps and i must say im with you all, this is quite promising. the outfits have grown on me since seeing them in action. is anyone else tempted to wear sunglasses when watching it or is it just me?? this show is BRIGHT!!!!!!!! i really liked the mecha change sequence- it was too long with all the battery swaps but the visual of the transformation was cool. As for the characters , yeah im feeling good that they may be able to do a good job with the fleshing out of them apart from king - he just seems one dimensional, but maybe that will change. its good to see someone who look older than 18 again in it, blue looks older than a standard sentai guy. Pink is nice. Black n Greens characters seem like idiots (putting it polietly). but maybe that changes in ep 3. apart from the brightness the only other thing that i complain about is what Ryuki mentioned.... that F'in Samba music!!!! Why, oh why????? they should have used a hip hop drum if anything!!! Quote
odin Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 King one dimensional? I don't really see it, I found him a very fun character and to me he is the equivalent of Gentaro from Kamen Rider Fourze, he is just more over the top than anything. Quote
Aether Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 maybe i phrased it wrong. what i mean is King is the sort of character theres no question about... hes 'wild' , strong, and wears his heart on his shoulder. all of that is established in a few scenes with him, all the others are not that sort of character. whatever the case the samba still sucks, it sounds like its carnival time everytime they henshin. i know you didnt mention that odin but i just wanted to reiterate the fact Quote
*Jess♥ Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I don't really hate the samba music. I'm just curious as to the reason for it. it seems like an odd theme since it doesn't seem to relate to the dinosaurs or anything else. I actually like the music as it really makes it fun, I love how the mecha unite, the mechanical nature of it is something i have yearned for for quite a while. and then when the kyouryujin forms, he does a little dance, that is so funny! Quote
LordSpleach Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 For me the samba is awkward. Though I do like the whole bullet/battery motif. Quote
Aether Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) I don't really hate the samba music.....and then when the kyouryujin forms, he does a little dance, that is so funny! hate is a strong word. i guess its nice and fun for those actual children watching , but it just doesnt fit the feel of a sentai to me, like Lordspleach said its 'awkward' - it just sounds silly! i suppose i'll get used to it by episode 40! and i cant knock dancing mecha - i used to laugh every time one of the mech from Go-Busters did a little dance move on the end credits! Aether Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 ok watched episode 3 and im sure 4 is out but anyway... alls still good, but is anyone else kind of annoyed that the whole secretive members thing has been brushed off so quickly??? i mean, im assuming black is uncovered in ep 4 so really what was the point?? Quote
odin Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) ok watched episode 3 and im sure 4 is out but anyway... alls still good, but is anyone else kind of annoyed that the whole secretive members thing has been brushed off so quickly??? i mean, im assuming black is uncovered in ep 4 so really what was the point?? The point is to establish the relationship of the team and give them reasons to trust each other and that way giving them more synergy when fight together, most of the teams that I have seen have known each other for some time but this team is based on people who are total strangers to each other so it makes sense that they would keep their identities a secret not wanting to get too involved fearing betrayal and this in turn increases the Red rangers Charisma and character by convincing them to trust him (considering that the reds that i have seen are usually the least interesting or generic of the team, at least in my opinion), that is something you don't see in other teams cause like I said their relationships have already been established with only development happening through flashbacks most of the time, here we see a team doing their development from scratch and from what I have seen from the reveal of Black I'm sure that was their intention from the start. Aether Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 i get your point Odin and i fully apperciate the change, i just wish they had stretched it out a bit longer. the mystery may have been something that could have been played out a bit more /longer than 4 eps that is all.i man it was cool how pink and blue got outed and it was that trio who were in the know, but that dynamic was gone in one show... anyway its all good - hopefully Quote
Aether Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 am i the only one with enough sentai stamina to watch this still?? watched ep 8 the other day. the formula seems to have reverted back to standard sentai... you know what i mean, i.e not as good as go-busters. i must say they are trying to keep it fresh though by lacing threads of a broader story through the episode. i think that is the only thing making it ok at the moment apart from the action. the dinosaur fart in ep 7 was hilarious / not funny at the same time and as such kind of cancelled itself out. it does seem as if we are going to get a bad guy zords combo at some point... maybe the reason for he bad guys having same colours as the Kyoryugers?? Quote
Toku Warrior Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I'm still watching it though mostly as I'm bored during my free time when I'm not writing and I mostly watch it to pass the time or get ideas or inspiration. I still find the use of samba dancing before morphing to be pointless and stupid. But that's just me. Quote

odin Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 I just watched the recent 2 episode introducing Kyoryu gold, this alone got me interested in the series again it was a well done introduction to the sixth member from a long time now, even the intro of Stag and Beet where not that interesting, this character has a lot of good storytelling possibilities I just hope they execute it correctly, I will continue watching this series for now. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I love it so far. not been totally keeping up with super sentai lately. wanting to try and keep my distance from asian stuff. but I watched up to date with kyouryuger recently. love ramirez. he's like a gaijin hero. the first western actor to be treated with some real respect. he was actually significant. much better than shinken brown. and now they have got an interesting thing going on with dogold. I would not say they have gone back to old super sentai. they've got something else going on here. it seems very much like a traditional formula but I am finding a far richer web of characters. the character development is awesome and the secondary characters are numerous. Quote
Aether Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 yeah , its like i said they kid of have gone back to standard sentai but they are interweaving something else along the way which is making it different and saving it being completey boring... i mean some early eps of other sentais get a bit crap. same old thing happens new monster gets defetated introduce new powers etc.. and then a story starts to build later. this stime they are starting the other 'story from the start sprinkling bits in to these early eps. if it hadnt have been there then these eps would have been a litltle - meh!! i love them for subbing but i wish TVN would keep up with it , i mean i am usually behind!! but im actually now waiting.... 10 isnt out and yet 12 aired the other day i think.. oh well, at least theyre doing it, and garo and KR and ... and....so cant complain too much. odin Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 I like Ramirez as well, my only gripe with him is his pronunciation, I mean..I only know basic Japanese (barely) and my pronunciation is a whole lot better than his, but it is only a nitpick for me, I should not be surprised by it since foreign actors always have weird pronunciations in series like these. Love Kyoryu gold also, and I smile a bit inside when he finishes his sentences with "gosaru" reminds me a lot of kenshin. XD Quote
Aether Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 yeah that guys pronunciation struck me as very precise - like he was over compensating for the fact he wasnt a native japanese speaker. i cant really comment though as i dont know any japanese!! i hope he appears some more throughout the series. apparently he was in another Toku called Sazar X... anyone seen that?? Quote
Aether Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) long post - but there is a point!! so due to their lateness the other week i broke my routine and watched an over time release of ep 10...now all i will say is i am accustomed to TVN so i usually just wait for their release and as far as i can tell apart from the little bit of extra effort TVN put in with colours etc. there isnt that much difference apart from them calling it Voltasaur Team Kyoryuger - so why am i mentioning it??.....ordinarily i wouldnt, but with this Sentai there may be a major factor involved here... and that is Blue's oyaji gags or 'old man jokes' / his spectacular wordplay.now im sure in japan its very clever but to me im just not getting it... i mean i get why its supposed to be funny but im not getting it and as such its a bit wtf /meh.in the TVN version we have what i presume is a literal translation and the meaning of the words to understand what they have translated which unless something is 'lost in translaltion' are never very amusing at all and just seem a little bit like ball ache to have to read all the text in 1 second...in the overtime version they actually just make stuff up for those appropriate lines, i think ...im only basing this off ep 10 where there are two old man gagsin both TVN instances it just seems like a normal sentence, but in the overtime version we have black say -''i guess its all water under the bridge to him''and blue replys - ''so WATER we going to do?? '' - hah hah, i get that, its not hilarious, but it is amusing and makes sense as a 'joke'.then later blue is asked to lend his shield out and he replys ''SHIELD with a kiss''.i don't know if anyone else cares but i might switch to overtime just for this series.im going to seek out the ep where it was a Blue ep as it is filled with jokes and see what they made up for that!! *Jess♥ Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I believe ramirez's pronunciation is exaggerated due to the kids watching who might find his accent confusing. think about a non native english speaker and then think about kids trying to understand. it's better if they enunciate clearly. Quote

I agree but I'm sure that there are actors that have a perfect pronunciation to could have done this, but as it is I don't really mind it just seemed weird to me. I mean I'm not a Native English speaker and kids understand me just fine. Quote
