You know Odin, someone should do to Super Sentai what linkara does with Power Rangers.

i'm willing to present if somebody does a script and editing of footage.

i'm comfortable talking in front of the camera and i'm familiar with many series.

That is a good idea ryuki, I could give it a shot at editing the footage although this would have to be at least once a month since the ISP i have has a bandwidth limit, we would have to organize this to make it work, we would need someone now who can take care of the script.

True, but you'd have to have enough footage from the Sentai series you're covering and enough general knowledge of the show and characters portrayed in the series, meaning you'd have to watch it from start to finish.

And not everyone here can stand to watch a lot of the older gen Sentai series (quietly looks at a few members in attendance).

toku, if you're referring to me, it doesn't really matter about that, since i would be giving my voice to it, I have seen enough super sentai to make up for not seeing some older series with my enthusiasm for more recent series. especially after seeing gokaiger.

and of course whoever edits it would need to have the footage. i was actually thinking of you as you do a lot of AMV. also, it wouldn't have to be the same person writing and editing for each series.

I know we are badly off topic here. is it worth splitting the topic, are we going to talk about this more?

well i cant bring anything to the table really, but thought it was worth mentioning that by chance i watched the beginning of linkara's PR Wild Force review and he happened to rant to people being impatient for his reviews and talked of the process he actually goes through to produce the videos. it sounds as if you all would probably have to take a different approach than he does.

I could do the editing but I only have so much footage of Super Sentai that I can use. I have more Kamen Rider footage than I do Sentai to be honest. Let me see on the SS series that i do have real quick.

Well, I have, for incomplete series:

episodes 1-8 of Dengeki Sentai Changeman (9th Sentai series)

nearly all of Choujuu Sentai Liveman (12th Sentai series)

episodes 1-11 of Kyouryuu Sentai ZyuRanger (16th Sentai series)

1-30 of Gosei Sentai DaiRanger (17th Sentai series)

1-5 of Seijuu Sentai Gingaman (22nd Sentai series)

a small portion of Mirai Sentai TimeRanger (24th Sentai series)

only 2 episodes of Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger (26th Sentai series) (Ryuki, you have thise series as a whole, yes?)

For completed series, I have:

GoGo Sentai Boukenger (my discs for this series are dysfunctional so I won't be able to use my copy of this series)

So, in terms with what I have, we could do complete reviews for DekeRanger - Goseiger (if someone can provide Boukenger that would be great) and if Ryuki still has Hurricanger then we can also add that one. Ryuki, Odin, which series do you guys have completed that I don't?

As it was being discussed in the Power Rangers vs Super Sentai topic, this is a small project to do the same thing that linkara is doing for Power Rangers but being solely based around the original Super Sentai series instead.

I have complete series footage (usable footage) of the following series:

DekaRanger

MagiRanger

GekiRanger

Go-Onger

Shinkenger

Goseiger

I do have Boukenger but the discs that it's burned onto are messed up. So someone else would have to provide this series.

I can do the editing if need be but we would have to do some discussions of what scenes would be used. Then we'd have someone be the voice for the series (Ryuki, you can do just your voice or be seen on camera as well, your choice) and then we'd need a script written up after a long lengthy talk of each series. Each series should only take anywhere from 1-3 months to create a viable script for and have a usable video crafted. Then our narrator would take his time in his spare time in adding the MC for the project. This is to ensure the highest quality possible.

Besides the series that I can provide, can anyone else provide fully completed series that I have not listed? If so, you could either send them to me 1 episode at a time and after I watch them all we can then get to creating a script.

With the script, we would need to make a rough draft and then edit it until it had a nice flow. Story boarding and notes taking while viewing the series is a possibility.

Does anyone else have anything to add?

sounds like you really know what you're doing!

I can't really add anything to this, I'm not really as organised as you are on the footage editing front.

I look forward to what you guys come up with and i hope i can give it some good feelings with narration!

I'll try and add input where i can, it's not my strong point though.

If you wish, you can provide some sample script and I'll do some test recordings. I may not be able to get the right enthusiasm you see, so it's best to check that beforehand.

I do have it, but i don't have a dvd drive in my computer so i can't do anything with that anyway.

the only series i have on my computer is gokaiger.

I am obtaining juurenjaa and timeranger as tvn release them but that doesn't allow us to do anything on the series as a whole.

I also think we could do kamen rider as well if you guys wanted to.

I have limited knowledge of Sentai as well as seen only a limited amount of series in the super sentai franchise, but if you guys need a researcher, my door is always open. The Japanese wiki alone would be a huge resource for this. And what do you know, Ishinomori Shoutarou, aside from being the original creator of Kamen Rider, was also the originator of the Sentai franchise with his first sentai Goranger.

@Ryuki - Don't worry. I'll talk with Odin about it and what we can do is a 1 series test run to see how people might like it. So, out of those of us who are interested, these are the choices for the test run.

And i wouldn't mind doing a Kamen Rider project series either. I'm currently caught up with all 12 Heisei series as a whole and I even have series from Kiva through OOO in both RAW and Subbed format. As for any series from the Showa era...nearly all of Black and Black RX, as well as the movies ZO, J, Shin and ZX and I have all of Amazon. none of Stronger or V3 but I have what is currently released of X by OoZ and Super-1, SkyRider and the original Kamen Rider from KITsubs.

So for that we can pick either one of the 12 Heisei series (OOO is a go as it only has two episodes left anyway...just don't include its movie for now) or Amazon as I have those all practically completed. If Odin doesn't want to do a script for the KR project then maybe one of you guys can as i know you both know more about Kamen Rider than Super Sentai.

@Durendal - Dude, any research would be of a great value to this project. Remember, this will take a few months to complete as we want the best quality possible for our 1st release.

though, I do have a question. What should we call our review group. Linkara's History of Power Rangers is known under the pseudo name 'that guy with glasses'. So what would we call ours?

Oh, I just thought of something. For a good 1st run as a test project, we could do another toku series to warm ourselves up on. Series like:

Armor Hero

GARO (I know you guys would love to do this series)

since it seems to be your idea initially, then the choice is yours.

for the name, I would like to suggest something to do with japan legend as it can be good publicity for our community and potentially bring us some more members. (although it's not necessary as i think it would be clear that the people working on it are based here.)

for series, if you want to choose a sentai, my first recommendation would be either shinkenger or gekiranger as I have seen those all the way through. the others on your list i have only seen partially.

if not a sentai, then from that list, i would recommend rescue fire as it is the only one i have seen many episodes of.

the other i have not really seen at all.

ishinomori was responsible for goranger? wow, that is a surprise. well, somebody mentioned it to me before somewhere and i thought they were mistaken because i had not heard it before.

well it does seem that this project might work well alongside Project Toku Wiki. if for example, we do gekiranger for the first review, then the PTW gekiranger page could be the current focus for translation? what would you think of that durendal? and of course it would help out a LOT with making a good informative script. and when the video is released, it will bring more attention to the PTW and all that hard work.

Doing a script for History of Kamen Rider? hell yea!! I know more about that series than Super Sentai, on super sentai I have only watched Shinkenger, trying to watch Gekiranger since the theme song got my attention and Gokaiger but that is far from being finished.

on the history of Super Sentai I would like to recommend 2 series since I think they are important to each series, The Skull Man and The Japanese Spider-Man since i heard that they where influential in the creation of Kamen Rider( skull man) and Super Sentai ( spider-man using a Giant robot to fight)

Out of the two you suggested Ryuki, I'd have to go with GekiRanger...never did fully watch Shinkenger.

Odin, if we do a script on a Kamen Rider series, pick one of the ones I have listed above. I can't do Skullman or the 1970's Spider-Man as I don't have those series.

I might do one of the other Toku series I mentioned as a side project over time.

So Odin, we should start going over a script for GekiRanger. Have you seen this series yet? Once you got a rough script send a copy to the three of us (Ryuki, Durendal and myself) so we can go over it and then we can tel you of any subtle edits to make. We also need to take plenty of notes on the series for the cultural aspect so that those can be pointed out during the video.

Once we agree about what the final script looks like we can go from there. Also, once the script is finished it will be easier to edit the video to fit the script. Also make suggestions of maybe a certain scene you'd think might best provide a mental imagery for a certain point being expressed through the script. Example is talking about the Super Geki Claw and how they Rangers go super using Kageki, I can use the scene where they battle Rio and the two guardians, Kuwa and Kabu (the two beetle-like guardians). Maybe providing terms of what each individual term name means (Geki, Shigeki, Kageki, etc...) might be beneficial to those who don't understand the meaning.

alright then, I am currently watching the series so writing about it would not be so much trouble, I will just have to write it as i watch it, It may take a week or so to finish watching it. are we going to talk about the movies? or just the series?

personally, I always see the movies as alternate universe, almost fan fiction, because they aren't made by the original producers. but it's not my call.

will we keep the script between us while we work on it? that makes sense because then people won't have seen it and will look forward to a release. we can use a 4 way private message.

oh did i say shinkenger? how silly of me. I meant to say magiranger. I've seen about 70% of shinkenger. I've seen all of magiranger.

Question, how will the history of sentai be presented if the focus will only be on one single title? I'm sure there would be a lot of details missed out. If you guys like, I could first put here the history of the sentai as listed in the japanese wiki.

currently working on the introduction as I re-watch Gekiranger so I can point out important stuff, also looking out for stuff that can be used as jokes too, so far so good.

Oh, and here's a tiny tidbit for my first contribution to the research.

Goranger was the first Sentai group that composed of 5 individuals battling villains. Spiderman was the first hero to ever control a giant robot. They combined the concepts of the two to create Denjiman, which is the first incarnation of the current giant robot sentai trend.

with regards to the history, I think it could be alluded to but not necessarily spelled out?

@Durendal - Yeah, that might be a good idea. We can spend about 2-3 minutes of the project video discussing the basic history of the franchise and then go off into one of the series, which for project #1 will be GekiRanger. And nice tidbit with the Gattai, GoRanger and Denjiman info.

@Ryuki, yeah, let's keep the info shared between us 4. this way no spoilers can get leaked out. As for GoRanger, it was basically just Sentai while Super was designated for those with Giant Robo's. It wasn't until around the time of somewhere between ZyuRanger and Boukenger that Sentai series 1 & 2 were also included into the Super family. We will not be going over the movies or VS movies for now.

We could possibly make the movies a separate project but not for now. We got enough to do on our plate as it is. If we get enough replies from the fans for a next release to include such movies then it could be done.

@Odin - Make sure that you just take notes for the basic info (mainly monster types, plot, special effects, story basis, character names and alliances, etc...). We must also make sure that this is a un-biased review. So even if we love it, we must go over all the pros and cons of the series. That's another thing to keep an eye out for. I'll also start re-watching the series as well sometime this weekend. Once we've re-watched the series, we can then go over the info in 4-way PM and discuss everything while letting it all sit in our heads, allowing us to digest the information.

Then we can discuss how we can set it up and then you can start the rough draft of the script from there. I would also need to create some kind of OP sequence and we would need some kind of logo.
