durendal Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Well, I really didn't pay any particular attention to it. All that I've heard is Suten-chan. I though Omuomu was using the first and last syllable of small mountain. Checked the Japanese wiki just to make sure. And it was indeed Suruten. As for the names, Koyama Kazumi is Suruten Hikita Shuzo is Megane (the cop) Nakawara Mimi is Nancy (the OK loan lady). Also, I don't get why Kazumi keeps screaming "Adriaaaaaaan~!!!!" everytime he accomplished things. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 it's a reference to the film 'rocky'. since you ask, I would assume that you haven't seen it. sylvester stallone's film 'Rocky' is a landmark film in the west about a boxer who goes from being a nobody to fighting the world champion. at the end of his fight, he shouts to his love interest "adrian". it is symbolic of his determination. oh so that is their names? I never knew because I mostly heard them called by their nick name. megane and nancy. Quote
durendal Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Oh yes, I've seen Rocky, but was still very young to remember the exact details of the movie so I wasn't able to catch Rocky actually screaming Adrian. The ping pong practice was really funny though. The scene where line up to form the word Adrian!!!! Then after a few days, it turned into Ari, and then Ah! It was really a LOL moment for me. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 oh hah hah, I had forgotten that I don't remember a lot of it now. I think i want to watch it again someday. Quote
Mike123 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I'm planning to watch Ghost Friends or Maid Deka over the break. They both have Saki Fukuda, whom I just adore! But I can't decide which drama to watch first. Paranormal activities or maid detective? Quote
Toku Warrior Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 Do you prefer girls in maid costumes or the paranormal side of life to come first? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 heh heh ... girls in maid costumes? versus ghosts... I don't think there is any contest here! anyway, now I finished watching Haruhi Suzumiya, I am going to plan watching some drama. NOW, I did start watching tokyo dogs. I watched the first episode and it's not thrilling. It seems a little hard hitting so I'm not sure if I'll watch it any more. I'll have to see how i feel about it. actually, I would like something more like mei-chan no shitsuji or atashinchi no danshi. but i think that what i will try next will be densha otoko. I managed to get Durendal into Binbo Danshi, so I will go for his recommendation. Quote
Mike123 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I usually save the best for last, so I guess paranormal activities it is then! Thanks guys! Quote
Toku Warrior Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 Well, for a good mystery drama, MR. BRAIN is a good choice. I'm not sure about Samurai High School as I haven't started it yet. Maybe the series Otomen. I don't know of a sub group that's taken it up yet but you can find RAW episodes of it at Tokyo Tosho. It's an 8 episode series that has Setou Kouji as one of the main cast members. Setou is well known to us as Wataru Kurenai / Kamen Rider Kiva. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Ok so i got densha otoko incoming. I put on the first episode to have a peek. seems interesting, I like the style of it, very exciting, it reminds me a little of akihabara@deep. except it has a little more delight to it. I am looking forward to watch the first episode completely if i don't end up watching rescue fire instead. also, I am now considering a few series that i had recommended from d-addicts forums. these are the following i plan to obtain and watch. Zettai Kareshi a girl with a boy who is a robot. The Quiz Show was said to be quite mysterious. O-Hitori-Sama a lady perfectionist in a romantic story. Samurai High School I don't thik i need to say much about this. Quote
durendal Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I'm currently watching Yama Onna Kabe Onna. I like the story, but hasn't gotten to the point where I get Hook, line and sinker. I'm watching it for Misaki Itoh, one of my favorite actress. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 i think i might like that one, you'll have to remind me about it in the future. Quote

I am looking forward to watch the first episode completely if i ...... durendal, thank you. the emotion surpassed binbo danshi. i'll write more later. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 so there was one scene that played at the beginning of it that i found pretty funny and was laughing at it quite a bit, but that same scene was repeated later as it was a kind of flashback, only the second time round it was put into context and my emotions were completely reversed. this was so powerful, I could not believe it, japanese tv have such an ability to create powerful entertainment. I am so invested in this character already after not even a full episode. I really want to be his friend more than anything. I want to be there to stand beside him and say "hey buddy, it's gonna be alright". durendal, I am understanding a lot more about why you did what you did back then. the passion must have grabbed ahold of you and i actually think it showed a lot of goodness in human nature. although people did feel a little cheated at the time, they soon got over it and moved on. i think it was a good thread though, to show solidarity among friends. it shows how people can be really supportive and that is pretty much the theme of this show at that stage. he is talking to his internet friends and that scene was also played out in real life. it was an amazing thing and i recommend anyone to watch the series to get that feeling. Toku Warrior Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 Which groups subs it again? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 i'm not listing the tokusatsu i have watched. i think it deserves a different thread. I'm just listing what j-drama i have watched. watched keitai sousakan 7 mei-chan no shitsuji binbo danshi atashinchi no danshi densha otoko ohitorisama zettai kareshi now watching yama onna kabe onna Quote
Toku Warrior Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 What's that current series you're watching about? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 it's the one durendal has mentioned. a woman with a 'wall chest' works in a upmarket bag selling store. a new girl starts and it is apparent she has 'mountain chest' and she seems to be a better sales-woman. Quote
durendal Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Ah, Yama onna Kabe onna. Another funny series. Although this lacks the powerful impact of the other series, it's still a likable show. You gotta love the innuendo's of the show about breasts. If you are a fan of Rumiko Takahashi's Maison Ikkoku, there was a TV special released a few years back, and it stars Misaki Itoh as the admirable Kyoko otonashi. also, the last three J-drama I have seen are Love Generation, Long Vacation and Hero. All of these shows somehow stared Kimura Takuya and Matsu Takako in different roles. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 i want to watch something more light hearted. zettai kareshi was very heavy, and made me very sad at the end. I'm looking forward to yama onna kabe onna being more light and fun. so far it does seem fun. Quote

durendal Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Are we to include chinese series as well? Because as a child, I have watched countless Chinese drama on Television as well as on Video ranging from feudal war (wuxia) to strict modern drama (I still can't forget the theme from that child drama. Really touching). That's like 1 series for every month for more than 10 years. (parent's hobby actually, and I was watching along with them every night) So that's like 120 series and movies. Some of them pretty cool actually, even with the limited visual effects then. Among them the classic movies of Jackie Chan during his teen years. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 also, the last three J-drama I have seen are Love Generation, Long Vacation and Hero. All of these shows somehow stared Kimura Takuya and Matsu Takako in different roles. what are your thoughts on these series' ? what style are they and how would you rate them or compare them to? i have been hooked on dragonball and i want to start collecting a couple series as i am empty apart from yama onna kabe onna. well i did look for a new series and i looked on dwiki for a fuji tv series that look interesting. I decided to try a series called otomen. it's about a high school student who is a tournament fighter and in secret is very effeminate. haven't got hold of any yet but it looks like an interesting idea. durendal Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Ryuki, if heavy emotional love story are not your thing, then I guess you should completely avoid these. With the exception of Hero. I think you would enjoy Hero. Hero is about a prosecution laywer who did not even attend college. The fun thing about this series is about the unorthodox way that he solves cases, often times challenging the popular decision even with substantial evidence and always turning out to be correct. Love Generation and Long Vacation on the other hand deals mostly with romantic relationships, and usually ends with closure among the two individuals. I personally love Love Generation, starting from it's music, to the cast and its ensembles, to the way the story develops. It was actually the music that drove me to seek Love Generation. The song "Hear Me Cry" by Cagnet is one of the most touching song that I have ever heard, and is still one of my favorites to this day, considering that this series came out in 1997, it took me this long to actually get hold of it.
