I'm sure you've already thought of this, but better be sure.

Have you installed any new hardware recently?

Have you installed any new software recently?

Have you configured anything new recently?

If answer to any of the above is yes, perhaps you should try to look into it again.

If no new hardware was installed, then there is a chance that this is a software issue. However, we can't discount the possibility of some of your hardware going bad.

Again, I don't use windows 7 so I really can't help you with software issues.

Hopefully by now, you have already figured out what's bugging your machine and may deem my post irrelevant.

no, I'm happy for your suggestions. even if the suggestion itself doesn't help, it is good to have the emotional support.

I restored my machine to factory settings today. (which would eliminate any corrupt system or registry files)

so, since the restore, I have not come across the bug. it hasn't been more than half a day yet though so I'm not in the clear.

if the issue returns, I plan to troubleshoot various pieces of hardware i have connected to my machine.

first is the usb hub, second my external hard drive.

since I have run full disc and memory scans, that would effectively eliminate all possible suspects and the only thing remaining would be to return to the shop and ask for a replacement.

it's in warranty so that would be ok. although i don't know how i would handle any waiting time.

Well, it's good that you've got all the basics covered. Most of the times they are overlooked, and only to find out later that they are the cause of the error, or what leads to it.

If it's still on full warranty, can't they provide you with a service unit until they give you a new unit? I mean, in terms of business, not having your machine with you even for a few days would mean a loss of opportunity. Opportunity sometimes translated as profits. Seeing that the retail industry in the UK have delighting customer as a standard instead of customer satisfaction, I'm sure your needs would be addressed.

actually, that's pretty rare.

it's only in large corporations that they care a lot, because if they don't then we will write a letter and complain. that is what british are good at. if we put in a complaint it is very big deal.

i'm not sure, if that were the case, they might be able to do something but i'd have to see.

the last time i went to that shop with an issue, it was unpleasant.

i'd just have to make sure i got my thinking cap on.

I'm depressed. I woke up this morning to find out that my PC had a blue screen of death. First it had a stop code of 7A, then when I tried to reboot it gave me a 4F. I'm inclined to think that my Drive is already giving way. I hope that's not the case.

No worries. I found out that my drive is failing. Installed Seatools and checked that my HDD failed both the short and long DST test. I've checked seagates website and I found out that I still have warranty on the drive up until 2012 (5 years warranty). That means I only used it for 4 years. I swear, hardware these days are made to last shorter. I remember my 120MB hard drive lasting 10 years. I would still be using it today if it weren't for compatibility issues.

Now, if only I can figure out how to ghost my drive so I don't need to reinstall every damn software.

Hope you have an external drive to at least remove the data. I have to hard-drives on my PC, this should help to extend the life of my main one.
