*Jess♥ Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Please anyone who reads this, go here and sign this petition! If there is anyone here who, like me, doesn't have an internet connection and relies on other means to use this board, then this is bad news indeed. Half life 2 will be unable to play on machines that do not connect to the internet. that puts me, my family and all my friends out of the picture. in a feat of stupidity they have made it so that you have to register on the net any time you want to play. here is the website of the petition. http://www.petitiononline.com/HL2/ please go here and save the lives of many strapped for cash-gamers! Armageddon Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 At first, I didn't understand what you were saying. Now, I do. http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/11/11 ... 13002.html Even though i don't play PC games, i feel for you. Quote
guyverfanatic Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Online petitions never work, but I am sure a letter writing campain would! Oh, and I think this is BS. Kinda sucks for the people like you who do not have an internet connection at home. Quote
*zeo Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Correction, online petitions almost never work. There have been a few rare occassion upon which they've succeeded. Rare but enough not to say never. But I agree, this is BS, especially after the game has been delayed for over a year as is but copyright protection ideas from the industry have been rather anti-consumer over the past few years so this does not really come as a surprise, after all many microsoft products already employ similar anti-piracy tactics. Though you're probably right guyverfanatic, they would probably come out with a hack solution long before they change that policy. Though microsoft is making even the hack solution difficult, like with Halo2 making it impossible to play online if your using a moded xbox. Quote
Guest Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 are u refering 2 the steam registration? Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I broughtthis topic tothe attention of my Day of Defeat clan (ww2 mod for Half-life.) and we have figured that HL2 will be available for everyone to play, that they would loose too much revenue to offer this game to internet ready only comps. so I believe whoever first put this up, or heard it, heard wrong. Unless this was heard officially from Valve. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 I work in game and we have had the copies of the game in. i have read the book. it is not wrong. it is backwards and stupid and idiotic and ..... sorry it still winds me up that i cannot play the best pc game to come out for years. but no you read right HALF LIFE 2 WILL ONLY PLAY ON A MACHINE WITH AN INTERNET CONNECTION. That, sadly, is right. You need a internet connection initially to register your copy of HL2 and unlock it. Afterwards, the game can be played with/without a internet connection. I think whoever put this lock in the game is gonna have millions trying to kill him. Quote
guyverfanatic Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Well for those of you without a internet connection, you can use those handy free 1072 hours AOL discs, just to register and then cancel. Just a thought. Quote
Armageddon Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Now that is something viable, but... http://www.broadbandreports.com/shownews/56671 AOL is gonna go bye bye soon. Though, right now, AOL's free hours sound like a good idea. ANYTHING, in my opinion, is better than AOL anything! Quote
