*BananaKing Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) This show was and still is one of my favorite anims and I was wondering if anyone else watched it. My brother's always telling me to shut up when I talk about it and I was hoping there was someone here who knew the show so I could talk to them Edited March 11, 2008 by BananaKing Quote
Guest Ashura Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Wow its been a long time since I've seen/heard anyone mention this Anime series.. I think this was one of the few Anime series and/or Anime that influenced me quite a bit. Who could forget Hiei's Black Dragon Wave from the second YuYu Hakusho movie! That alone was an eye-opener for me. Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 What was your favorite saga? Spirit Detective, Dark Tornament, Chapter Black? Mine is by far Chapter Black! Quote
durendal Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 This is probably the only series of Tagashi I've seen from start to finish. This is actually the series that introduced me to Hunter X Hunter. Although I don't know what the arcs are called, but I liked the fight up to the point where Urameshi is fighting Sensui, then after that, I'm kinda disappointed. And of all monsters..... Enki???? Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Thats Chapter Black and that is the best Saga in the series by Far! I loved Sensui and the mood that saga and fight set blows any other part of the show away by far Quote
Guest Ashura Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I admittedly only have seen this series in the form of the anime, and even then up to the Dark Tournament, somewhere in there or other. The last I recall was Kurama vs. somebody but I think I'm going to buy the manga. This was an amazing series. - Ashura Quote
Toku Warrior Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 It's been a long time since I've seen this Anime so I may not remember a lot of the names. My favorite fight thus far in the series that I can still recall was in the final arc of the Anime when Yusuke was fighting in the demon world tournament agains one of the former 3 demon kings. That fight was classic....though, so was his fight with Touguro in the dark Tournament. Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 Yes it was an amazing anime, but the mange was really stupid. There a lot of things in the Manga that look like however translates it to english, said to himself either: "The Anime is so much better than this, no one cares about the manga!" or "No one reads this so what the hell?" My opinion on the Manga is that they should stop translating it, becuase its just too bad. Also some of the drawings in the Manga are disgraceful, but if thats what they want it to look like then who am I to judge? O wait, I'm a foreign dictator! I'm the perfect man to judge! Quote
Renegade Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Actually, I've been re-watching the dark tournament saga on anijunkie.com and veoh sporadically for the past few weeks. I think my favorite was Dark Tournament because the psychics were pretty boring in the Chapter Black saga. Other than that the Demon World and Chapter Black sagas were great! I just wished we saw Mazoku Yusuke more. The ending left a few open ends that I still wish were answered though. Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 I just loved the monologues that Sensui's seven gave to Yusuke's team. Plus the whole thing about just who Sensui was, it was just so great when they'd explain what happened to him. Plus the fight between him and Yusuke was much better than Yusuke vs Toguro Quote
durendal Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Well, it is evident that Togashi's "sickness" started when he was doing Yuyu. The art sometimes looks like childrens scribbles. But you have to hand it to him, People gets hooked to the stories he tell. I just can't understand why a guy like him who is married to the author of Sailormoon and is currently the highest paid (correct me if I'm mistaken) mangaka, can't put out a consistent Manga on schedule. Well, forgive me as I know this is not a thread for Togashi but his works on Yuyu. Anyway, I liked the fights of Hiei during the tournament. Especially how he resorted to using a "weak" technique of Kuwabara's. (Forgot the name of the guy he fought) Quote
Archangel Ashes Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I love Yu Yu Hakusho. I was mad when it was taken off without finishing so i tracked it down and watched the rest of the series on my computer and i loved it. I wish Toonami would suddenly become cool again and buy the rights to their old school stuff. Quote
Guest Serious Senryaku Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I used to watch this Anime all the time. It was one of my favorites, and I have many of the DVDs. Sadly, I never got to see the final saga (The Three Kings, or whatever it was called), but Chapter Black was by the far best, as many have said. Sensui was a marvelous badguy, both in character development and planning, but personally, I always thought Toguro (the big one) looked the coolest in the whole series. Again, I make those claims on everything but the final saga, which I've yet to see. Someone told me the new badguy in that one is some six-eared blind guy who knew Kurama from a previous life. Or something. The fact that it has another long-winded tournament didn't peek my interest much, either. Quote
*BananaKing Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 The second tornament was only about 6 episodes long and the final battle between Yomi, the blind guy you're reffering to, and yuske was pretty good. It was a good display of what an S-class battle would look like. The rest of the saga is a lot of talk and just trying to tie up loose ends, getting to really know who hiei, kurama, and yuske really are (Sadly no kuwabara this time) As for Chapter Black, I will always agree with your statement: It was by far the best saga in the whole show!!! It had the most compelling music, the villain was nothing yuske and his team had faced before, his enemies tested their moral limits, and the whole race against time just brought a mood that yuske might lose. Every time the tunnel grew closer to completion, it just seemed like the likelyhood of yuske's victory dwindelled. As for Torguro, the whole dark tornament just seemed too stupid. The whole tornament was basically us waiting to see the grudge match between Toguro and Yuske. We could tell the whole time that Yuske wouldn't lose before facing toguro. But I will say this, I liked toguro when his demonic side took over! Quote
Guest Serious Senryaku Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Yomi, that was his name! I couldn't think of his name... As for the Dark Tournament, there were only really two aspects I liked in it; the creativity behind the designs of the villainous teams, and of course, the coolness that is Toguro (the big one; the smaller, older one's a whiny little *****). So the second tournament doesn't last very long, eh? You know, they recently released some DVD sets that have like 15 episodes on them, and I was thinking about just getting the final one. I like Yu Yu Hakusho and I do have the Dark Tournament and Chapter Black sagas, but I'm not a fan of the DBZ-like fights that take half a dozen episodes. Quote
*BananaKing Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) You mean all of the yuske fights? I love the fights including Spirit Energy and the spirit Gun, probably becuase I watched the show when I was young and when I was young my favorite show was DBZ Edited June 5, 2008 by BananaKing Quote
Guest Serious Senryaku Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 You mean all of the yuske fights? I love the fights including Spirit Energy and the spirit Gun, probably becuase I watched the show when I was young and when I was young my favorite show was DBZ DBZ was cool when I was younger too, but I felt that the long-winded many-episode battles were a staple of the series. When so many other series I saw started doing the same thing, it slowly took the unique feel of it all away. And ftr, Majin Buu is one great character. His final form, Kiddy Buu, is just too cute! Quote
Guest THANOS Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 i love this series to death! one of my favorites but i never got to see the whole thing and i dont have enough money to buy the sets : ( Quote
Guest Serious Senryaku Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I just finished the Three Kings saga a few weeks ago; boy was that a bit of a disappointment. They build up all these new characters, and then the series just ends. I think the Dark Tournament and Chapter Black sagas are what made me appreciate the series. It's a shame it didn't go on longer; it had the potential to have so many different stories. Quote
*BananaKing Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Like I tell everyone, I think it should have ended at Chapter Black. Three Kings Saga just tied up the loose ends and focused on only three of the four characters. I was pissed they left out Kuwabara, he adds humor to the show! The fights were too short and dissapointing, although Yusuke vs Yomi was a pretty good fight. Although Yusuke should have won but dropped out becuase he got the fight he wanted Quote
durendal Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Wasn't Yusuke got unconscious during the fight with Yomi and woke up after the tournament ended? Well, yes, the last arc was a little bit disappointing. The author probably figured to end it sooner since the story is already dealing with immense powerful beings that he doesn't want it to end up similar to dragonball. I can also tell that during the last few chapters of the story, the author seems to be getting a little lazy, seeing the artwork of the Manga looking like kids scribbles. It's better that it ended sooner than have it cannibalized. I'd only wish he'd starting working on Hunter X Hunter again. That Manga is delayed far too long already. Damn Togashi complex. Quote
*BananaKing Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Yeah thats why I like the Anime better becuase the Animation is consistant. I can't even look at the drawings of chapter black in the Manga cause they look too horrible. Yes he did go unconsious during that fight and was why he lost, but I just hoped that yusuke would have beaten Yomi. It was good that he lost to sensui becuase the mood of the battle they had was just so intense: Spirit Detective vs Spirit Detective, a Battle to the Death! All of yusuke's fights were a sensui said, "Too linear" He kept fighting these demons that he actually thought he could beat. When he fought sensui, he accepted his death, something we had never seen before. In his fight with Suzaku, yusuke was going to die but he never accpeted it. Yusuke vs Sensui was differant, it was an unbeatable enemy Quote
durendal Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Yes, when Yusuke was facing Sensui in a desperate fight, both he and Sensui already knew that Yusuke's sacrifice will force Kuwabara to utilize the dimensional sword properly. Although both have the same intention, it was on a different reason. This is like Yusuke repaying Kuwabara when Kuwabara sacrificed himself during Yusuke's fight with Toguro to force Yusuke to use 100% of his powers. Quote
Hellspawn28 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I used to love this show but when they put the newer epsiodes on 5:00 AM, i stop watching it because it cameone too early. Quote
*V Guyver Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I never got deep into the series. I mean, it's a good series, but I stopped watching the Anime after the Manga started to degrade. Quote
