river_chaos Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Just got done reading Inheritence, the last installment for the Eragon series. Holy cow! Half of what occured in the book I didn't expect in the slightest. Well done, Mr. Paolini! Quote
river_chaos Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 I don't think I've ever been afraid to open a book in my life until today. One of my resources for an Art History essay was first checked out in the 1950's, and I'm the first to check it out in over twenty damn years. The year of print is nowhere to be found in it and the pages are now a dark muastard yellow collor and smell like old cigars. I was tenderly holding the thing while the librarian helped me find more references that would not crumble to dust on me anytime soon. Quote
river_chaos Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Went on my first date Monday night with a fellow Nerd club member. We had a good time; we just hung out and talked. To all Americans here: Happy Thanksgiving!!! Quote
river_chaos Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 My calender has suddenly filled up.....holy crap.....I respect the faculty here at college even more. At least I've got some Christmas shopping done for my mom and dad. I bought Dad two coffee cups (a travel mug and a ceramic mug), and I bought mom a shirt and a coffee mug too. The mugs were surprisingly better priced here at the campus store than any of the local stores in town. Quote
river_chaos Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Went to see an opera for the first time today with the music club. It was a pretty good experience, and I learned to not assume that all guys are tenors. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 opera sounds cool and i once heard that it is amazing... but what i really really hate more than any thing is musicals on tv. whenever my favourite tv show has a musical episode, i turn it off. it's always the worst thing they could do in a show, have the characters all singing their lines. it feels trite. but thats just me. did you enjoy it then? I guess it makes me think about final fantasy 6 which I loved. have you played that, and if so, did you get that feeling? Quote
river_chaos Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 I have to agree with you when they put musicals in TV shows; it tends to grate on you after a few seconds. No I haven't played the Final Fantasy games (sorry, not in my realm of taste), but I've seen the CG movie Advent Children. Would that count? If you don't mind the constant singing in a language you're not familiar with, then yes it is amazing. I certainly enjoyed it, even after I was shocked by the high pitched voices of two of the tenor singers. The one I saw with the club was entitled Rodelinda. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 nah, final fantasy advent children is good, but it doesn't give you any idea of what the opera was like in final fantasy 6. I don't think i can explain it, the technology is more advanced now so it's not as impressive as when it first came out. it's a "you had to be there" thing. Quote
river_chaos Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Ah, okay. I'll try to find the soundtrack or the game then when everything is not as chaotic as now. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 soundtrack wouldn't do the job. to fully understand the feeling I am alluding to, you would need to start the game from the beginning and understand the world they are living in and achieve the sense of immersion, gamers would have had back in the day. if you're stuck for time, I wouldn't recommend it maybe there is a similar thing in your life? have you played a game or watched a film that totally drew you in and drove you to tears at any point? Quote
river_chaos Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 That would be Ocarina of Time and the Gears of War trilogy in my case for games. In the realm of books, it would be the Harry Potter series. When you put it like that I understand what you mean. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 this is difficult... i think the best comparison i can give is to compare with goblet tournament. you know the very end where they go in the maze. all the school are there and celebrating, but harry is somehow isolated. the atmosphere is there but also harry finds himself in danger. there is also the yule ball. I think that gives a similar feeling. Quote
river_chaos Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Ah, I see what you're saying The music enhances the story, kinda like what the Lord of the Rings movies had. Or when going through the Shadow Temple in OoT and getting a feeling to expect something at every turn. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I don't remember the shadow temple so well, but yes, that's it exactly. the thing that i think is best of all, the mines of moria in lord of the rings. when you get to the mines, you can feel the atmosphere thick as soup. you made me think, maybe i can play OoT sometime again. Quote
river_chaos Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) The Mines of Moria part always creeped me out, especially when the drums in the deep played. Blog entry time: Got treated the other day to a special campus service entitled "Lessons and Carols". They told the story of Christ's birth, and the chapel choir, campus singers, and congregation took turns singing carols. The songs were especially beautiful when everyone was singing. Loved it! Then afterwards my dorm floor had a little Christmas party since we won't be able to do that during finals week. Edited December 11, 2011 by river_chaos Quote
river_chaos Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 Finally! Finals are over!!!! Not only that, I found out that I made a B on both my last Art History and Comp assignments! WHOOOHOOOO!!! I can finally let my poor fried brain rest. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 good job, congratulations! have a nice relaxing holiday period now Quote
river_chaos Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks Ryuki! Blog: Yesterday, I pulled a real bad prank on my uncle. He didn't decorate his Christmas tree worth crap, and keep in mind that my uncle is an all out redneck (has his own amory and a large selection of camo clothes). While he wasn't looking, I rearranged the lights and started decorating it properly, not with his ornaments, but with some pink frufru tinsle, cupcakes and teddy bear ornaments, topped woth a glittery pink star Whoo, he cursed like a sailor for a while until I put his decorations on with the pink stuff. river_chaos Posted December 24, 2011 Author Posted December 24, 2011 Had an awesome birthday Nearby relatives came over and we all ate chilli for dinner, then I opened my cousin's gift: a t-shirt that says "Smirf-a-licious" I am sooooo wearing that to the next nerd club meeting! I also got a yukata (informal summer kimono) and two Japanese Guyver manga (vols. 11 & 13). After all that we started visiting and my dad, being warpped as he is, brings up these videos on YouTube called Joe Cartoon (watch at you're own risk) and grossed the crap out of meemaw. It was fun and I'm happy to have such an awesome birthday. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 merry christmas nice, you got guyver manga Quote
river_chaos Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 I met the weirdest cat today. I was starting dad's laundry (I have to go through the carport to get to the laundry room in this crappy rent house we're in) and I suddenly hear a cat meowing. So I stop, start looking, and see a little brown and black cat. I say "hi" and held out my hand and the cat just comes up and starts rubbing up against my hand. I pet it for a little bit and then go back to finish up the laundry. The cat follows me into the laundry room and starts rubbing against my legs as I'm finishing up. I put dad's laundry hamper inside the kitchen and I pet the cat a little more for a few minutes. I go back inside the house, an hour later meemaw comes over and askes about the cat. I look out there and see the same cat just meowing away. I told dad and he told me to feed it some of the fru-fru dog food he got from work, so I did that and the cat scarfed the food down in three minutes tops. Dad and meemaw think it might have been a house cat that was abandoned in our street, so we're going to see if it'll go home on it's own or if we're going to have to take it to an animal shelter after New Years. Quote
river_chaos Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Edit: A family of nigros on the next street over shot the cat that me and the rest of the street I live on adopted. Me, Dad, and everyone on the street's pissed at them because they just shot it for fun. Not a good way to start the new year. Edited January 1, 2012 by river_chaos Quote
river_chaos Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Whoo...fun fun fun day *sarcasim* First off, got a call from Dad this morning saying "Hey! I'm at the hospital! Come pick me up please!" Same issue from last year, only this time he got addmitted to a better hospital where the docs actually have a thousand or so brain cells working. We finally got confirmation on what's caused the barfing attacks from last year and today: the galbladder (stones and sludge= not good and possibly needs to remove galbladder). He has an appointment tomorrow with a surgeon to see if they need to remove it or what not, and in the meantime Dad's on some new perscriptions to help with the naseua and eating problems. Next, I got to go chat with a group of knitters from my Meemaw's Master Gardener's group (not sure if I've told yal this yet, but I've started knitting with needles last week when a giant book I ordered came in). It was fun, all the old ladies there were surprised I was doing so good on my first project with just the Garder stitch, and we all exchanged some hilarious stories about encounters with snakes. Got some 100% cotton yarn from their storage (people donate yarn to their group, and they just gave me some to play with when I have the time). After that, Meemaw took me up to Hobby Lobby and I got some more yarn to make her another shawl to match the one I made her years ago along with some super glue. So yeah, it's been an eventful day for me. Quote
river_chaos Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Well, it's been set. Dad's going into surgery Thursday to get rid of the galbladder. Quote
