Has anyone else been checking out the show on NBC? Well, I actually watched it and taped it all from beginning to season finally until next year. God, I think it's a great series because it's a live action comic book and it relates to the possibilties taht could happen.

it's X-Men, but it's not X-Men. It's evolution and I mean it's interesting to get to know every character. The way they tell the stories, how the action flows equally with basic character development and story line. It's just fantastic. If anyone has seen it holla.

Heck yah it's awsome but they didn't air it this week it was some dumb christmas movie thing.

Yeah they said the last episode they showed was the last for this year. It won't be back until January 22 I think they said. But I mean that finale` was crazy. You have to wonder what is next and what is truly in store for Peter. I don't think that vision he had was of him personally.

I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen the show and see this thread but dude so much to talk about .

Posted

Yeah this is the Heroes thread right here. We can talk anything Heroes here. I guess the best way to do it is make a spoiler warning version of this. Is that right? I mean just so folks don't drop in and see stuff that would ruin the series thus far for them.

Yup, though if you want to talk something specific like the scientific accuracy of the series then you can open up another thread in the science section.

Well any way...

*Spolier Alert*

Any way I still think one of the coolest scenes is where future Hiro shows up and tells Peter that he has to save the cheerleader to save the world. Also the preview for the new season where you see Hiro looking at the sword in the past is way cool how it explains how he got the sword from the train seen with the future him. By the way if you haven't noticed Hiro is my fav. character the ablitly to control space/time is sweet!

See, I'm with you all the way with Hiro. Hell, to think they actually have a character with that power and I created a character with that ability too. It bugs me out.

I think I like Peter more though. He's just all over the palce in the power spectrum. When ever he's near someone he has their powers . of course distance stops it from working but he's like Sylar but not at the same time. He doesn't need to kill anyone to get the powers he just instinctively has them. being able to fly like Nathan, or tell the future like Isaac, or even regenerate like Clare. It's great.

Yeah the season finale` was hot. I didn't think the chick with the power of persuasion was going to die though. She was cool. I guess that means Sylar is breaking out and what's up with the Haitian? What's he up to with Clare and how will this effect things?

Back to to Peter though. The vision he had about him exploding in NewYork; I really don't think it's him. I think it's that guy Tom or whatever that can go nuclear. Even though it looks like everyone is there, it wouldn't make sense for Peter to be the one to go boom. Then you have to wonder why Peter is so sick. He gets scooped by the cops and from that point on he looks super pale and is coughing hard. The n him passing out after getting bailed out. Not cool, but you ahve to give the writers props for giving such a great air of suspense.

Posted

Well the writers for the show are the same people that brought us The 4400 and that show rocked. As for the vision with peter he wasn't any where near Isaac? Now for the hole him going boom-boom I think that the radioactive man might have been close and we just didn't see him. Well that's just Largo's opinion on matter.

Spoilers. . . . .

Actually there are three possibilities for the bomb.

1) Ted Sprague, the one who emits radiation. Could go nuclear if he's killed. (Via Sylar or the death penalty or someone just hits him)

2) Sylar absorbs Ted's power but can't control it and goes nuclear.

3) Peter absorbs Ted's power but can't control it and goes nuclear.

Sylar and Peter are alike in both can assimulate the abilities of others.

Sylar does it by understanding how the power works and then making his own body and brain work in the same way.

Peter does it by a form of empathy but the end result is the same albiet temporary.

Though we're assuming Peter's ability relies on proximity but that may be because his power is not yet fully developed.

Essentially the reason Peter is now sick is because of his power. Each time he uses the abilities of another he alters the way his brain works along with his DNA.

The altered DNA is causing a metamorphasis within Peter, depending how that goes, remember some of the Heroes were dying of cancer, he could literally become a super powerful multi-talent like Sylar once his DNA stabilizes.

He may even have Sylar's powers since he was in proximity to him when they tumbled off the school roof.

If Peter's dream was true then saving Claire might be what saves him and thus the world. Since the ability to regenerate could make him more stable and perhaps handle the power better.

The dream could also mean he's not ready yet and needs the powers of yet even more Heroes. Before he can, as future Hiro told him, become the one they need him to become.

Btw, did anyone notice the glyph symbol for RNA keeps on turning up in this series?

It's even on Hiro's sword

Now this is what I'm talking about. I personally think it's Ted. Just me though. As always James you put it down science class for us and it puts everything into perspective, especially about Peter. It would be pretty hardcore if he ended up like Sylar though. Tha tway he would be on par with him and probably a bit better.

Yeah the RNA symbol has been an on running thing but you have to wonder as to why, or could it be some sort of clue to it all.

Clue I believe.

Our genetic code works in two parts which is comparable to computer memory.

The DNA is comparable to the hard drive for long term storage while the RNA is comparable to RAM for short term storage.

The RNA is more volitile but is the form of genetic code that does all the work. Typically DNA code is converted to RNA before it becomes active and vice versa.

DNA is better for long term use because it is more stable and harder to alter.

In Heroes people with abilities show rapid changes in their genetic code which is more than likely expressing itself in their RNA.

Peter for example could only be explained through RNA as DNA would have made each new power perminent.

In normal people RNA can even have a different genetic code than your DNA, for example people with two color eyes is because their RNA is different from their DNA which expresses itself in two competing eye colors that overlap.

So the idea is probably these people are human but have a mutated gene that causes them to have a seperate RNA coding that grants them special abilities.

RNA is also good for rapid mutations which would be required for evolution to take place in a single generation. DNA would take too long to alter itself significantly and would have meant many generation showing the developing abilities before you got to the stage of the characters in heroes in which their abilities border on the supernatural.

Oh, and Largo, I forgot to mention that Peter has had prophetic dreams since the beginning when he dreamed of flying. So it should be no surprise that he dreamed about himself blowing up.

I think it's part of his empathy to subconsciously realize what is going on around him. It's his apparent link to everything that makes me think he's the key character who has the best potential of becoming the ultimate hero.

Aside from Hiro of course

The only thing is the confusion his name will bring up when they start calling him a hero and he keeps having to correct them that his name is Hiro :P

Tim Sale is doing most of the character creation and concept art in this. He's a big DC guy, though I'm pretty sure he's worked with Marvel too. One of the biggest writers in comics is the co-executive producer. You'll see him write a show or two during the 11 episode run(Jeff Loeb).

Spoiler.

Hiro is the only character I can't put my finger on. All the others are almost direct copies of pre-existing archetypes.

Forgive me, I'm horrible with names if they aren’t actual super hero names, but the roll down on the knock offs. :D

Peter - Gideon of New Mutants and X-Force fame. Having the ability to absorb another "Mutants" powers when in proximity to said "Mutant" is his deal.

Blonde stripper lady - Bruce Banner, IE the Hulk. I mean how much closer can you get? Normal strength in one personality, then a sub persona that is ungodly strong and inherently aggressive compared to the primary persona. Definitely the Hulk

Blonde Stripper lady's husband(he played in Buffy the Vampire slayer season 5, he was the second guy after riley in the initiative) - This guy is so Kitty Pryde. Shadowcat, for those of you unaware, has the ability to phase through solid matter. Yup, dead ringer.

Peter's Brother - Well he's not really any one Super Hero, he just has the ability to fly... This is so generic its not worth further mention.

The Cheerleader - Logan, Wolverine... Take your pick. This one was obvious. I kept yelling out how she needed her adamantium skeleton installed quick before someone tried to rip out her brain again. Heh.

Radiation Man - Ok so Marvel and DC have about 6 of these each. I'm not even going to go into the indy market, but needless to say, this is generic and overdone as well. Pretty sure DC's "The Radiation Man" predates the rest, so we'll go with him, ok?

The Cop - Ok, so all this guy needs is a 900 number of his own and one of those authentic Caribbean accents and he's a dead ringer for Miss Cleo. Yeah... Reading minds, another generic... Lets just call him Charles X and let him set up a school for "gifted youngsters".

Sylar - Forge. The ability to see how thinks work, mechanically even at the molecular level. If you don’t know who forge is, he's another one of those X-Men character we've grown so fond of over the years. Though I'd have to say the way Sylar is implementing the changes in his own DNA/RNA is closer is resemblance to Rogue(come on people, The Avengers Annual #10 in your back issue bin!).

The Painter who sees the future - is a little new on me. Everyone keeps shouting out that its a Gary Stew/Mary Sue. Tim Sale as Tim Sale if you know what I mean. It's probably the only other original creation besides Hiro.

If I've missed anyone... They probably didn’t bare mention. Well the Hessian might have... But we all know his just another generic empath mixed with the Morloc Leech, so I figured I wouldn’t spill the beans on that one.

Lets see, the stripper chick's name is Nikki and her alter ego is named Jessica and her husbands name is D.L. Peters brother's name is Nathan and the Cheerleaders name is Claire. The radioactive guy is named Ted and the cops name is Matt, while Skylar is actually Sylar. Lastly Isaac is the name of the painter.

You missed Nikki and D.L.s son Micah who has a power that has yet to be properly touched on but when he did use it he could repair a pay phone with a mere touch and concentration. His ability may be something like a technopath. (if you've seen Sky High)

The Haitian has an ability that delves deep into the mind he can block a psionics ability to probe minds, has the ability to wipe peoples memories of whatever he sees fit or ordered to do, and (if I'm corect, which I may not be) can probably stop the part of hte brain that allows for utilization of a heros ability or abilities.

You also forgot Eden who possesses the power of mind control through vocal suggestion, enabling her to bend or break another's will with a whispered command, and even cause death via a forceful command.

I think that's about it for me on this for now.

The Eden chick is just another Empath who has to talk to get her point across. This means she's not all that powerful to begin with. Empaths are another generic super power. Its like super strength or super speed, and barely worth mention.

Nikki/Jessica's son is a mix between either our previously mentioned Forge character, or the widely popular Cable who has a technokinetic ability that allows him to psychically control technological items.

There is no original thought left, only unoriginal ideas.

And please... Skyhigh? Not to be insulting, but that Movie was retarded and a blatant attempt by Disney to capitalize on the current Super Hero Movie craze.

Heh.

Thanks for the names though. I'm horrible with names.

For now, it appears Peter has to be in proximity of a person with power to use it. This might change mind you.

You don't always have to have super powers to have prophetic dreams. This might just be another nice little plot twist not having to do with any form of powers.

Hopefully we'll find out after the break.

Yeah it was pretty great. Got a new hero with the ability to be come invisible. Poor Nikkis being beaten pretty bad cuz of Jessica, and I have to say if Hiro gets that sword from Linderman it should be pretty sweet.
