Except for the really badly done sex scene I liked it. Quite a lot of gore. Didn't bother me, but it got a little cartoon-y at a few points. Liked Marcus with the wings and everything. Part of me wanted to see Selene transform into something. But the glowy eyes were nice. And of course, nobody does latex bodysuits quite like Kate Beckinsale.

Sorry McAvoy, site got hacked again. Or should I say marathon hacked since it was a different hacker every 5 minutes for a half hour.

Anyway lost three posts, inclusing yours so please repost.

I can say however since I read your post before it was lost that

Continuing the spoiler alert. . .

The actor McAvoy was referring too before his post got deleted was Derek Jacobi, a very good shakespearian actor, who played Alexander the first immortal, and Michael was descended from a child Alexander had before he became an immortal so that child was only human but it was not said whether that child was either male or female as far as I recall. Only the twin sons he had later were really mentioned.

And as the legend goes, one became the first Lycon (Willian) and his brother Marcus became the first Vampire.

It was not said whether Victor was the first but he was sired by Marcus so he draws his power from him just like Selene had drawn her power from Victor, which is why she was stonger than many of the other vampires. Not to mention she's at least 600 years old.

Though that begs the question on what they had done with Willian for the first 200 years since they captured him in 1202 but Selene's family didn't build his prison for another 2 centuries since it was shown she was a child when it was built and she is only a little over 600 years old.

Anyway when Marcus drank the scientist lycon's blood, since he was an original bloodline like Michael, he became a hybrid like Michael. Explaining his ability to transform and the reason everyone made note of it.

I would agree (also refering to McAvoy's missing post) that the older a immortal gets the stronger they get, not to mention control over their abilities. Like Victor telling Selene she didn't have the skill to properly pass on her memories through blood, her mind was too disorganized even though she was only a little over 2 centuries younger than Victor.

They also lose the ability to eat normal food but the effect of killing off the original is only myth. These vampires and lycons are not supernatural, they are freaks of nature created by a plague causing a radical mutation in its one survivor. So Selene being able to withstand the light is because she is no longer a normal Vampire. Like the title of the movie suggests, she evolved when she Drank Alexander's blood. He said as much when he told her she would become the future.
