Aether Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) so we don't have the toku section anymore and we have threads for the new series so I am just going to make a new thread to discuss anything to do with past series of Kamen Rider... showa or heisei period! I am on my 5th Kamen Rider series... I started watching KR Kiva... hmm, now is it just me or is it going to stay as crap all the way through?? I mean its ok, the whole violin thing is whack, but I do like how its skipping from the 2 time periods, and just the plain weirdness of how an entire chunk of a building just seperates without completely ruining the structural integrity of said building, and turns into some big church monster thing that eats monsters after they are already defeated... the designs ok but that little bat companion rider driver thing is a bit annoying aswell.... I don't know, for those of you who have experienced it whats your opinion??? Edited July 29, 2014 by Aether Quote
*Jess♥ Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I really enjoyed kiva. I think. well actually I just recently reacquired the first quarter of the series to watch again. I just remember IXA being one of the coolest things in kamen rider. yeah the castle dragon thing was a bit stupid, I hated it at first, but I think they realise it is crap and start to use it less. The good thing about Kiva is the music and the style. I love it so much because of the style being similar to castlevania. I love how the Japanese approach gothic themes. Some people have expressed a great deal of hatred towards Wataru due to his cowardly nature, but a lot of people really love Otoya. by the way, we could always discuss a return of a tokusatsu section if people are becoming more interested in it again. we were just getting no activity at all in there. LordSpleach Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I couldn't continue watching Kiva because of Wataru. I think they were trying to have a similar protagonist to Ryotaro from Den-O, but there is a major difference between them. Ryotaro was very unlucky and his timid nature was born from this, but we see throughout the series that he does have a backbone. Wataru is weirdly timid yet really has no reason to be since he seems to have always been Kiva(I stopped watching after Wataru met that rocker dude). It's a shame really because I do like the designs of the riders, and Otoya is indeed awesome. On another note, I decided to rewatch Double because..........it's smegging Double. Great series. Quote
Aether Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 well ive only managed to watch 5 eps so far... I was just having horrible flash backs of watching Blade - the first series I watched - and I literally forced myself to watch that , the second half was ok but the first half was ...not . but im glad I stuck with it, got into it a bit and gave the other KR's a chance... I don't want to force myself to watch something if im not going to enjoy it though!!! yeah Wataru is seeming to be a bit annoying, BUT i'm assuming theres a reason for his demeanour, and maybe that will be explored more ...is Otoya this other guy heroic guy with a better rider suit? I cant recall right now... by the way, we could always discuss a return of a tokusatsu section if people are becoming more interested in it again. we were just getting no activity at all in there. im not sure, there probably isn't a need for it at the moment, I just thought that the KR series at least needed its own thread! I couldn't continue watching Kiva because of Wataru. I think they were trying to have a similar protagonist to Ryotaro from Den-O, but there is a major difference between them. ..... On another note, I decided to rewatch Double because..........it's smegging Double. Great series. I haven't seen Den-O yet , I think i'll watch 555 next and then Den-O I like going from the older heisei series then to the newer ones, It keeps things fresh I think ,as there is a distinct difference between the periods. I think W was the second series I watched and yeah, it is totally awesome!! Quote
*Jess♥ Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 reading your post here lordspleach, it makes me doubt my decision to watch Kiva again. what you pointed out about Wataru having no real reason to be timid... I can't refute that and so it becomes an issue. can I really watch it if the characters don't make sense?I'm not sure that I can. I don't really remember it so... but I do recall the end episode being one that I never watched in English. I watched the Japanese and didn't bother with English.I did watch the beginning of Den-O the other week, I stopped watching cos I was feeling depressed to watch an old series. I think if somebody else is watching it though, it might give me a feeling of comradery while watching so let me know if you start watching it! Quote
odin Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 The only reason to watch kiva to me is to see the awesomeness that is Otoya as he develops his character through the series and sticks to his guns once he decides on something and a walking testament of how to not judge a book by its cover. honestly I have not been watching other rider series aside from Gaim, guess I'm not in the mood yet, tried to watch kuuga but only got to episode 5 I think, If I plan on rewatching something again it would probably be either OOO or 555 which are amongst my favorite rider series and oddly enough if Gaim keeps heading the direction it's going it will share yet another thing in common with does 2 series, specifically with the main Rider, does who are up to date with Gaim will probably know what I'm talking about. ALL THE MOVIES!) around either last year or the year before. I forget. I definitely enjoyed it, and am waiting for the eventual cross-over with ToQger. The Owner must meet The Conductor! Speaking of which, The Owner of the DenLiner is really entertaining. Yuki, I leave you with this. I think if somebody else is watching it though, it might give me a feeling of comradery while watching so let me know if you start watching it! im going to give KIva another go, I mean im only on ep 6 so i'll give it a bit longer I think 'cause Kamen Rider tends to grow at a steady pace, plus im intrigued by this Otya guy everyone seems to be loving!! ??!! i'll deffinately let you know when I start watching Den-O The only reason to watch kiva to me is to see the awesomeness that is Otoya as he develops his character through the series and sticks to his guns once he decides on something and a walking testament of how to not judge a book by its cover. honestly I have not been watching other rider series aside from Gaim, guess I'm not in the mood yet, tried to watch kuuga but only got to episode 5 I think, If I plan on rewatching something again it would probably be either OOO or 555 which are amongst my favorite rider series and oddly enough if Gaim keeps heading the direction it's going it will share yet another thing in common with does 2 series, specifically with the main Rider, does who are up to date with Gaim will probably know what I'm talking about. seeing as you guys have been singing Gaims praises and I haven't been watching it i'll be saving it for awhile... I did watch OOO's before I started KIva and I must say I really did enjoy it ... the theme song, Eiji's character, the conflict of Ankh, the concept of Greeds, the Kougami foundation -Kousei Kougami ''HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'' the suit, the coins , the powers, KR Births story,Hina chan, nice, Gotto Chan - nice!! I just loved all of it... this is why im having a hard time with Kiva , it s not an instant like... I tried kuuga ages ago but it didn't happen, ive already explained about Blade, W was instant like, Ryuki was an instant like, OOO's was an instant likeand when I say instant like I mean straight off I was intrigued and the like grew and grew as episodes went buy... im just not getting that from Kiva yet, but can I rule it out just yet?... Aether Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 so ive just watched ep 12 of Kiva... and it is getting more interesting and less laborious to watch... I now realise this Otoya guy is Wataru's dad - or in my head -''the violin dude''... he is quite a funny character actually since some things happened and IXA was introduced its become more intriguing, especially seeing as the ''modern day IXA dude'' is quite clearly a wrong 'un ... with the events of whats happened its quite clear that Wataru is looking for a father figure, hence him bowing a lot and asking for help from new sempai's all the time, I do hope we will find out the reason for this and why , presumably his dad wasn't around - I 'm guessing this is why he seems so weirdly introverted, shy or whatever... I wonder if being behind Kiva's mask takes all that away? im finding myself asking if hes like he is out of the suit then why does he fight?, why can he fight so well with Kiva? why does he even have Kiva? all this better get resolved!! 2 Quote
Aether Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) so glad I stuck Kiva out... im @ep 23 and the past about 8 episodes were quality, good story and action and some hilarious moments.. Otoya's soul inhabiting Wataru's body !! . no wonder people like Otoya so much, im not sure how/ if his character progresses but he is hilarious!! edit: one of my thoughts (that turned out to be kind of correct) may be a spoiler so i'll get rid of it! Aether Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) ah even if im talking to myself I have to say that I just watched the end of Kiva and its freakin awesome! I think most of what I was wondering was resolved man it was well worth getting through the initial episodes... I must say I only watched this to get it out of the way before other series as I didn't like the look of it much, but I have been pleasantly surprised!! I couldn't continue watching Kiva because of Wataru. I think they were trying to have a similar protagonist to Ryotaro from Den-O, but there is a major difference between them.... Wataru is weirdly timid yet really has no reason to be since he seems to have always been Kiva(I stopped watching after Wataru met that rocker dude). Lordspleach I recommend watching all of it! yes he is weirdly timid ( and annoyingly so up to a point) but he works his way through this and I can understand why he is weird when some things come to light later in the series... it starts to hit its stride about ep 15 I think and the momentum just gets stronger from there I think im gonna have a little KR break start re- watching Garo 1st series and then go for 555 Edited September 19, 2014 by Aether Quote
*Jess♥ Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 nice job getting through it. I read what you said in your previous posts but rarely in the mood to offer up any suitable response I was going to join you in watching it but seem more focused on fairytail. I'll watch kiva again some day, but mainly because I LOVE the design for IXA. 1 Quote
Aether Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 ah well at least you responded this time! yeah the IXA design is pretty damn cool I think I liked the original more than the powerd up one... I liked the knuckle driver too and I also find it funny when they just pull the belt from nowhere or it just appears on, I don't know why, I just do. speaking of IXA that's something ive found strange about the KR series is that there are always more than one Rider type person... I just always assumed there would be a lone rider against monsters but I guess it makes it a lot more interesting to have more than one main rider... while i'm here whats the deal with Hibiki??? yay or nay?? Quote
*Jess♥ Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 it was ok I think but they changed the writers part way through so it took a nose dive. that's my understanding of it. one to be avoided. my favourite part about IXA was how it transformed. The way the face plates moved was so cool. That's a similar reason to why i liked KR kabuto. Quote
odin Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) congrats on staying on till it got better Aether. nice job getting through it.I read what you said in your previous posts but rarely in the mood to offer up any suitable response I was going to join you in watching it but seem more focused on fairytail.I'll watch kiva again some day, but mainly because I LOVE the design for IXA. you watch fairy tail yuki? off topic but is it your first time watching? how do you find the series so far? feel free to post it on the anime discussion thread, if there is any.
