Guest the_rotton_core Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Hi guys it's been a long time since I posted on here and that's mainly because I just haven't had a lot to post about. I haven't had any Guyver themed projects for a while and to be honest I haven't really even thought about it. However I'm now embarking on a new project based around the 1st and best anime hero I encountered. Some of you may have heard of the pepakura method for costume building. For those that aren't aware of this pepakura is a software that allows you to turn 3d objects into 2d templates which you can print off and fold into the actual object. Replica prop and costume builders have been using this program for quite a while now to build pretty much anything they want. There is a vast bank of existing pep files out there and new ones being made all the time. Also the templates can be used for foam costume building as well. So after messing around with the software and trying a few things to practice I realised it was finally time for me to actually get a suit of Guyver armour made. I stared just buying some cheap foam mats, printing off some existing templates and just experimenting... as you can see it didn't look to great but the important thing was it looked kinda like Guyver 1 I just needed to tidy up everything, get better foam, make better templates and take more care. I spent a lot of time reworking the templates and used the remaining foam I had to remake the mask section of the helm. As you can see this is much better. It still needed a bit more tidying so I went to work on the templates again while I waited for my foam anti fatigue mats to arrive. They arrived today and I'm ready to go. So this is where I'm at. I'm hoping to have the helmet assembled by the end of the week. There will of course be details to add later and it will need sealing painting etc but this is the beginning and I'm very excited. Will keep you posted. finally if you're interested in the pepkura costume method, how it works and what you can achieve with it, check out thee hero turoials they cover both peping in card and foam. http://www.youtube.com/user/theherotutorials?feature=results_main Quote
Aether Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) WOW! That looks cool man, good idea. the first attempt looks a bit strange with no spike or detail but i imagine it will look a lot better once you have built up the new pieces you made, put details on and painted it etc etc. good luck with it all! Bio-Boosted Dude Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 i've seen some pretty impressive papercrafts made with pepakura! it looks like fun and i would really love to see your progress on this. Quote
Guest the_rotton_core Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Some of the guys over at the RPF have been doing some pretty awesome stuff. A couple of us have got a bit of a friendly challenge going to kick out the best Guyver suit. I'm researching ways to have lights in the control medal and gravity orb, a hinged chest plate with lights beneath for the mega smasher and possible even extendable blades. Some people have come u- with some pretty cool ideas for assassins creed wrist blades maybe I can apply something similar to Guyver. http://www.therpf.co...tml#post2371234 http://www.therpf.co...project-149072/ Anyway that's getting way ahead of myself. I've hit my 1st snag in that the foam I bought is two thick. It won't be an issue for some of the bigger areas on the torso but it's not practical for detailed areas like the helm (which I want to be perfect.) So more foam is on order (woo hoo I just spend more money) and I've addressed a few other issues with the templates ready for when it arrives. In the mean time I'll just start working on the back and lower torso. Quote
Guest the_rotton_core Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Well I hit my first snag when trying to build the helm and found the foam was too thick for some of the detailing. I'm sure more experienced crafters than me wouldn't have an issue with this but I decided to order some thinner foam. In the mean time I prepared the back plates and chest plates (up to the point where they'll be hinged.) and once my new foam arrived I got to work on the helm. There are a couple of symmetry issues from the front but it should only take a little bit of adjusting then I just need to do the air filters and the horn. 1 Quote
Guest the_rotton_core Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Haven't posted in a while because I haven't made heaps of progress that's noticable. The helm is basically ready, it's fully assembled and sealed with pva. The gaps are for sections which will show the organism beneath the armour plate so I'll be building and painting those seperately. I've done the abs for the body as well but they need a little sculpting as they're pretty flat right now. Anyway here's a few helm shots. Quote
