*Jess♥ Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I just thought about perhaps updating mediawiki since this may give us extra tools like easy syndication of our pages so as to act as advertising. of course, updating software also brings with it a host of issues such as incompatibilities with any custom codes that have been put in. things may get broken and it may possibly cause some issues for our editors. what do you think about this? durendal Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 If things go sour, it can be easily rolled back right? I always say, if there is minimal to no cost, then why not? However, if there is cost involved, you'd have to weight the benefits if it is proportional to the said costs. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 I looked at the software site today. it seems it has only had 2 sub-versions since our version. 1.15 -> 1.17 judging by the change log it doesn't seem that the benefits are very substantial. Quote
durendal Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I did seem to notice recently that there are updates to the wiki page. When did you do this? The wiki pages looks sharper. At least I think now we can use the "hide/show" feature for spoilers. I saw you did it in your profile. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 yes! I did a lot of work on that recently. it was when you brought up the facebook page. I spent a couple of days working hard on setting up those things for site promotions. It appears there have been a few new faces so I think it has done some good. it was tricky to upgrade mediawiki to 1.18 as there were all sorts of errors. I discovered that i cannot simply make a backup copy of our databases without transferring the entire database to my computer and that seems like an utter nightmare. I uploaded the files separately and it appears that database upgrades do not stop the old files from working but getting teh new ones to work was tricky as teh charset was totally wrong. they had a problem in their upgrader file that i had to fix for them. anyway, yes it allows us to share our wiki pages to various social networking media. durendal Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Say, I noticed that any new updates on the wiki are no longer automatically posted in the boards like they used to a while back. Was this intentional? I was just thinking of ways to notify people about any updates being done in the wiki. I've recently added Guyver Novel page and updated a ton of stuff in the Agito page. With those, I might overlook updating the main page for updates. I did, actually, and just updated it recently. It was also only recently that I found out that V Guyver added a lot of stuff in the other guyver pages. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 oh wow, has it stopped working? I wonder what occurred? I'll have to look into this straight away. edit: I don't understand it, the only thing I could see is that one of the letters had changed capitalisation in the URL. I guess it's possible that could have stopped it from working... damn. what a pain. I just hope there was no vandalism during that period that might have gone undetected. Edit 2 : in fact, I discovered that e can extend the amount of time that we can look into the history of the wiki editing. it seems we did indeed suffer from some vandalism. user accounts should have been disabled and only accessible from the forum so I am pretty pissed at that. I've deleted the three scummy pieces of drenn and all of their filth from our wiki. it is unfortunate that I cannot easily delete all traces of what they did. there remains a log of what I have deleted. I'll see if i can clear that. Edit 3 : totally cleaned. went into the server admin, used phpmyadmin to manually erase all database tables created by these vandals. feel much better now. Quote
durendal Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 another stupid question. How do I upload image? I learned that they added another member in the Kamen Rider Girls (Fourze) and I can't upload the image. I also plan to update the image with better poses. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 I thought you have already uploaded an image by this stage? did you forget how to do it, or did you never did it, or is there an issue with the uploading? well normally, it puts the image tag in first [[image:piccy.jpg|thumb|200px]] then clicks on the link and the uploading is available. edit: but just checked it, seems the uploading controls are absent. will investigate. edit2: for the life of me, can't figure out why, but file uploads was disabled in the settings file. I certainly never disabled it so that's a bit of a pain. well it's fixed now anyhow. Quote
