odin Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Interesting new chapter It is finally revealed that a merman CAN in fact use a devil fruit, this new guy with the Target Target fruit looks interesting and probably the main badguy luffy will face, I am curious why does he wear a glove before shaking hands with Hodi, maybe it is related to his DF power, and oh crap, Zorro is about to take on freaking Neptune, now i can't wait for the next installment Quote
*BananaKing Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Now hold a sec there Odin, it was never said he has a devil fruit, the princess said he had a curse. Granted the devil's fruit powers are considered curse, but then how could he be in the ocean and not drown? Still though, I'd rather see luffy fight a steroid abused Hodi Jones over Vander Dekken(sp), Hodi just seems like a more villanous type. Plus Luffy kind of already embarrassed Vander Dekken in the depths. But its good to see the plot actually thickening, was starting get bored. But I wonder if Hodi and Vander are just going to go after luffy cause he'll happen to nterfere with their attack on Neptune or if they'll actually plan to go after him. I hope for the later but have a feeling its going to be the first one Quote
odin Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) well I'll try to explain myself since you are right but here is what leads me to believe this, even tho it is not said that it is a DF just a "Devils Curse" his curses name is typed twice and until now by tradition all Devil fruit names are type twice. regarding the side-effects of a DF user, he does not have to necessarily drown, the side effects are that if you are submerged completely in water that you will be immobilized turning you into a Hammer in the ocean. Since what we have seen until now are human DF users naturally that person would drown after a few minutes since we can't breath underwater but Mermen can and by consuming a DF does not paralyze your lungs underwater, to back-up my statement I bring you to the arlong arc (ironically enough) where luffy is sunken underwater unable to move but nami's sister stretches his neck so his head could be outside for him to breath. and finally look closely at this page: http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/90932202/17 he has a bubble surrounding him meaning he probably could be a DF user and is using a bubble so the ocean does not sap all his strength Edited February 3, 2011 by odin Quote
*BananaKing Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I didn't notice that bubble earlier so I think you might be right on this one dude. Hmm, the target target fruit...sounds like the perfect challenge for usopp above luffy. Still that thing with the gloves is kind of odd...could he be a germaphobe? Quote
odin Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I didn't notice that bubble earlier so I think you might be right on this one dude. Hmm, the target target fruit...sounds like the perfect challenge for usopp above luffy. Still that thing with the gloves is kind of odd...could he be a germaphobe? or maybe it is related to his devil fruit power, in order for him to never miss he has to touch a person so it will get some kind of mark that allows him to hit him with anything he throws at, just a hunch i guess, the germ phobia could also be it tho. Quote
*BananaKing Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I'd like to think he's a germaphobe but the first part of what you said sounds plausible. I don't know if you saw the Strong World movie but in the movie they fought Shiki the Golden Lion. He could only use his powers on things he had touched so Oda might use something like that for Vander Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Hey guys is one piece 617 coming out next week or something? I've been checking everyday and it hasn't come out yet I want to see some action cause Fishman island has been pretty boring up to now Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Ahem....Hodi Jones vs Zoro....underwater!!!! Oh man and Van Derdekken is on his way to Luffy! Finally Fishman Island is heating up. Anyone else wonder where Nami ran off too? Maybe she can't face Hodi after learning he's just like Arlong? Quote
durendal Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 she's probably taking her liberties at the royal treasury. Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Maybe I was hoping to see Luffy vs Decken this chapter though. And where's Coribou? It seems hes been eating more poor mermaids so they've got to stop him soon Quote
durendal Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 Is it just me, or am I finding the pace to be a little bit too slow compared to the past arcs? It could possibly because I read chapter 1 to 500 straight compared to the 1 week wait in the recent chapters. But I still haven't felt the adrenaline I felt reading the past arcs. Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I feel the same way, the word with OP fans so far is no one is liking Fishman Island so far. Its just been too slow and a lot of people are complaining about how it looks, they say its too round; whatever that means? I mean only these last 2 chapters have really only started to make me actually want to read the next chapter, the rest of fishman island has just been "bleh". I do want to see how Decken is gonna deal with Luffy, do you all think he's gonna team up with Coribou? I'm totally expecting Luffy to touch his Shirahoshi hand XD And, WTF is zoro thinking?! How can he fight Hodi Jones underwater?! And Im gonna be pissed if I don't see that black bandana on his head Quote
durendal Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 I see. Well, I was so hyped up at how super powerful Luffy and the gang had become, and after seeing a few skirmishes they made with the fishmen pirates, I was like, what the hell? It's either the straw hats pirates were super weak to begin with or these new adversaries are super strong. I guess the long wnding chapters that went before somewhat dampened my expectations that they were now uber powerful. I don't think the fishmen pirates would do well with Caribou. Since Caribou is human, the fishmen pirates are sure to find contempt towards caribou. Decken and Hodi are way too different to Caribou. Whereas the fishmen pirates have pride, Caribou is just scum. Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 WTF?! Read the new chapter guys and the last page will make you say that...I'm sorry but if the action is going to all be like this now...I don't know I'm not happy. Its epic as hell, but too quick now Quote
durendal Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 I certainly hope that is only the intro battle. I'm thinking that the real action will only begin when Luffy meets Jinbei. Nami seems to be headed to the forest to meet Jinbei and Luffy as well though with a different reason. Gomu gomu no hammer, somewhat a funny move seeing that Luffy himself is a hammer*. *hammer - in Japanese culture, those who can't swim are usually called hammer because of their tendecy to sink into the ocean, just like a real hammer. As for Zorro, I certainly hope that it didn't end like that. Hodi isn't even on crack yet. On an unrelated topic, I wonder what's happening with Buggy. After the events at marineford, it looks as if everyone was in awe of him due to him being in the crew of Gol D. Roger. It would be very funny and disappointing at the same time that after all these years, he's still a pushover. Quote
odin Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) I think the fight has just begun, there must be a reason for why Jimbei did not want luffy to fight Hodi and we will probably see it on the next chapter, the straw hats are strong but the enemies tend to be a bit stronger so we will probably see an epic fight, and these are mermen we are talking about, they are bound to give a good fight just like the last time. Edited March 17, 2011 by odin Quote
*BananaKing Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Well I suspect Hodi's going to get crazy strong on those steroids. But zoro probably won't be able to stay down there for much longer, but i don't know this is zoro we're talking about. By now he can probably breathe underwater But I do realise Luffy did get by Decken. I do want to see more of that chase next chapter. I do hope nami gets to Jimbei before Luffy so she can talk to him about arlong and probably queen otohime. I'm seeing we learn about queen otohime through when jimbei tells it to nami while luffy deals with the flying pirates and decken. Quote
durendal Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Finally, after months of anticipation, the Straw Hats Pirates is on the counterattack! Odds are 10,000 vs 10, good odds for the Straw Hats. They're like the 300, only they are 10. Quote
*BananaKing Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Read the chapter again durendal cause Luffy has made in 10vs 50,000 Its amazing to see how strong the srawhats are now but i want to see them fight the officers! I want to see someone fight Zeo Quote
odin Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 read it all and man I'm so excited, I really hope the Hodi vs Luffy Fight turns out awesome. Quote
*BananaKing Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think its going to be Hody cant compete with Luffy's speed but will be able to match his strength. However once he uses those energy steroids the battle could turn. I'm expecting Hody to do what Arlong did and exploit luffy's water weakness I just want to see someone kick Daruma's tiny ass (seriously since he's been shown I've hated that little bugger) and see an awesome fight between someone and Zeo. Im actually seeing Nami or maybe Sanji take on Zeo. Sanji cause he's fought an invisible man before and Nami cause I think it would be cool to see Mirage Tempo vs Zeo's camo powers Quote
durendal Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Wow, nice show for the strawhats easily dealing with the cannon fodders. But I hope we get some real action next chapter. It's no fun seeing how easily the strawhats can overwhelm their opponents. LOL at Sanji. He's afraid of gay men that much. Quote
*BananaKing Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I know, its funny to think that his motivation for his training was running away from the okamas XD Still I never expected he'd learn Geppou but I want to see what the new Nami, Chopper, and Franky can do. Especially new Franky, BF-37 looks like he houses some sort of hyper laser cannon...knowing Franky it would be in his ass XD I do wonder if he still has the Coup de Vent? I think since the Kraken has joined the battle, next chapter we'll see some action between the strawhats and the officers. I'm a little iffy on how the next battle because of what Jimbei told Hody, how his fishman karate is weak compared to jimbei's. Seeing the improved strawhats kick ass is cool but if they just beat these guys with no effort then its not going to be very entertaining. Seeing the strawhats struggle for victory is what we enjoy watching them fight Quote
durendal Posted August 25, 2011 Author Posted August 25, 2011 Hahaha! I can easily say that Franky is now a Super Robot! It's cool how Sanji and Zorro coordinates their attack allowing Luffy free passage to Hody. Their reverence to Luffy is really humbling given that they have tremendously improved. Also, even though Jimbei mentions how weak Hody's fishman karate is, this may be true in normal circumstances. But Hody is a junky, so his weak fishman karate is enhanced that might be able to surpass Jimbei's. I don't think that the strawhats will have a hard time against Hody and his pirates given that this is only their first rumble together. I'd expect that they would struggle in the following arcs when they encounter the stronger shichibukai, as well as payback for the traitorous Teach. Quote
*BananaKing Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Well thats the problem that could arise, if the strawhats dont struggle against their opponents will they be as interesting to see fight? Think about it, every fight the strawhats are, they have to push themselves to win and, IMO, that makes the fight all the more rewarding to watch. If the strawhats just breeze through each fight with limited effort then I dont think it'll be as interesting. There is such a thing as your protagonist being too strong, its the problem hellsing had. Alucard was so ridiculously powerful that anything he fought was no challenge to him at all and the fights were boring. However there is this idea, we havent seen how the strawhats fight against opponents that are fully aware and prepared for their attacks. The NFP officers were caught off guard by each strawhat and Hody hasnt been expecting Luffy's speed. Their opponents have been caught off guard by the strawhats. I hope that when the strawhats face the officers one on one soon that we see at least a little bit of struggle or things will get rather boring. I am worried about the energy steroids. Remember, the princes had the officers beat until they popped the steroids and then the officers crushed the princes with minimal effort. These steroids are dangerous and will certainly spell much trouble for the atrawhats. And poor kraken, his brothers are being threatened by mean old Hody Quote
