Alex Mercer Imagining [ PROTOTYPE ] 3

If they were to make 3rd installment on Prototype. I'd like to see Alex Mercer return. I mean it really sucked that James Heller consumed him and destroyed the Mercer Virus/ BlackLight 2 infection. I really enjoyed the first game because we got to know Alex Mercer so well. But the more we got to know Alex Mercer. The story seemed to show him more and more as an Anti-Hero. The Original Alex Mercer was black mailing the government. I can't remember what for. But they gunned him down in Pennstation because of that and he was threatening to kill a lot of people with Black Light which at the time was developed from Red Light. So, everyone in Penn Station died soon after. We see Alex Mercer waking up in the morgue, re-animated and mutated from the virus.

 

Thus our adventure begins with the first game where Alex fights the military and systematically causes everyone to get infected with Red Light. We see the same thing in P2, except James Heller ( hero that none of the original P fans really cared much for and seem to have forgotten) kills Alex. Pretty much ending the Prototype franchise as the company Activision shut down Radical, because Radical failed to meet its quota in Prototype 2 sales. Well, wouldn't sells have been better had they just kept Alex Mercer around? More than likely. Again, no one cared about James Heller.

 

I would hope if some company comes along and picks up where the Radical left off. Perhaps they can start Prototype 3 off with Alex Mercer, and the explaination would be that James Heller killed a viral clone. People would buy it rather than sit and be pissed over the fact that Radical killed their own Icon. I would like to see the story take up some events that were current from the First. We never got to see who or what Project PARIAH was. Even though he was like Alex Mercer. All we know is that Black Watch stated that if he and Alex ever came into contact, that things would be very bad. I think that would have been a better Prototype 2, but maybe its possible for the 3rd game, if it ever goes to the PS4 and X-Box One. I'm still hoping that P3 can redeem the sins of P2.

 

Prototype 2 reminds me alot of Devil May Cry 2. Everyone hated DMC2; fans mainly because it took away from the story. Much like P2. But when DMC3 came out, all was forgiven. So, I'm hoping for a more holier than thou sequel to Prototype 2. I'm sure that day dream may never occur.

I like Heller, I hope that if there is a [PROTOTYPE] 3 he's in it in some capacity. Maybe mellowed out from all his Revengance in [P]2. I do have a slightly non-vague idea for a crossover between this series, Deus Ex and Assassin's Creed but making it anything but a fanfic is a pipe-dream, I think.

I would of kept Mercer as the star of Prototype too, and set up the plot to his eventually downfall into a true villain. That would of set the stage for Heller, made it more likable. His reasons for hating humanity was also pretty stupid in how he turned evil. Okay, so he traveled the world, met two con artists who back stabbed him, and suddenly he hates everyone? What, he couldn't be motivated by something more natural, like witnessing genocide? That's how I would of set it up. 

But considering  the confines we are now stuck with, I would instead have Heller start to slowly suffer mental breakdown as a Mercer slowly starts to eat away at his mind, eventually taking over Hellers body from the inside out and attacking the facility that housed the top secret prisoner that was born from the Black Light Virus, Heller Mercer tries to absorb him, only for it to backfire. Heller and Mercer are both separated and weakened. The True host of the Black Light Virus had reversed and absorbed much of their combined ability and escapes, setting up the plot for a 4th game, making Mercer and Heller Playable in the sequel, with them both trying to take down the virus with a good or bad ending depending on who play as. Also, would make it the first game with a two player online co-op.

I'm pretty much bumping my old thread. So... I have something to say about this topic. I've been doing a lot of thinking about this, its more than not going to happen. If it does. This is my thought process and follow up. So please bare with me. 

Alex Mercer and James Heller are one and the same person.

So by the time we see Elizabeth Greene for the first time, she's been infected for about, eh, 40 or 50 years, depending on when Prototype 1 takes place. We have no idea what she was like for the first few years. (There is a Web of Intrigue node that talks about Greene staying in one place for a very long time and not decaying, which might debunk this theory if it mentions the specific amount of time she's been sitting there since Hope, Idaho was blown to kingdom come.

Alex was influenced by all the cruel black light soldiers he had consumed.
Think about it, the Black light Mercer became an anti-heroic savior who was willing to die to save the city. However, he's also got the brains of thousands of the most evil people on Earth up in his brain pan. Perhaps, unconsciously, having that many psychopaths and sociopaths influenced his apathy and eventual hate for humanity. Basically, it's like schizophrenia, but with the voices numbering in the thousands and all of them saying pretty much the same thing.

Heller's call sign will be like Prometheus.

Prometheus stole fire from the king of the god's, Zeus. Alex's call-sign in the first game was Zeus. Heller got his power's from being infected with Alex's Blacklight virus- metaphorically stealing his fire. Therefore, his codename is Prometheus in the interests of thematic consistency.

Not sure about this, since a proper military operation would want to give it a name that is both distinctive and easy to say. 'Prometheus' is a bit of a mouthful when there's explosions going off all around and you're shooting at a nigh-unstoppable killing machine that wants to punch your limbs off. 'Ares' would be just as fitting (Heller is a soldier after all) while being quick to say over a radio, and it keeps with the Greek god theme too.

In my opinion, Hercules would be a better name; in Greek Mythology, Hercules was a noble warrior who too lost his wife and kid(s). Given birth by Zeus, he was hated by Hera and was then forced to kill his own family. Heller lost his own family, developed deep hatred on Alex (whom is called "Zeus"), and got powers in return. Not very accurate, I know; and second, Heller never stole anything from Alex, on the contrary, Mercer gave him those powers.The Most Heller gets called by Blackwatch is "Tango Primary."

James will unknowingly be manipulated by the mind of Alex Mercer....since they are the same. It didn't matter who consumed who. This is also under the theory that Alex Mercer's mind is more dominant. He was a scientist, he's consumed more minds and had more control over his powers and abilities. Mainly he is Black Light.


Mercer created Heller to help him level grind.Let's say Mercer wants to be stronger than he already is, possibly to escape NY, bring down Blackwatch or a similar major task. But his drive is gone. He's fulfilled his main goal, he's got his revenge and now he's just not determined enough to do it all by himself.
here comes James Heller.

Suddenly, there's another viral runner out there or god like being since DX1118 was an unstable fountain of youth being developed by Black Watch, with insane destructive powers and a thirst for revenge. And when Heller's been a wanted runner for a couple of weeks, it might only take a good Hannibal Lecture to bring him over onto Alex's side.

Alternatively, one will consume the other, massively increasing the other's power. No matter what happens, there's at least one viral god like being left with the power to do whatever Alex was planning.

and lastly. Alex Mercer is still alive.

This is said because he had the ability to clone himself.

 

So if they did make a 3rd game, its likely Alex Mercer will be in it. If not, there will be a different story, different characters......IF a 3rd title is released by a different game company as seeing that Radical Entertainment is long disbanded by Activision.
