*Jess♥ Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 this might have been better in the philosophy bit, but i don't want it to get too high brow. just general natter. so what is a community? once upon a time, I thought a community was any group of people who were talking about the same subject in the same general area. but I don't think this is altogether true. upon spending a little bit of time in another place recently, I started to realise that you can't have a community based on people alone. there needs to be a draw. people visit various places for various reasons that are personal to them. so if I am part of a community in real life, it is because i live in a certain area and frequent the same landmarks. in the wide wide world of web, the draw can be a couple of things such as a source of answers for various questions. a manga. a video series. why do we come here? it's because we want to read guyver. there is no more or less to it. well there is also that and the fact we can expand on our experience of guyver by sharing our thoughts on it. so what if there is no draw? well there is no community. I recently become admin of a site about japan vloggers. I've been among that community before on a different website but i have not been feeling it lately. I wondered why. then I have started to figure it out recently. I have not been watching many youtube videos laltely. well hardly any in fact. my interest in watching japan related youtube videos is very low. and that is the reason why i'm not feeling a draw or a connection to that community. so there is my long winded analysis of community. perhaps you agree. perhaps you don't care. perhaps you have your own idea. *YoungGuyver Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 So what you are saying is, switching this from the 'Guyver board' to the Japan legend board was a mistake? That Guyver is still the true reason for this site? I can agree. Other boards already exist for generic Japanese fandom, and we are the Guyver community. Granted, there's not a lot to talk about at the moment. No tv series, no figures, no movies, no real major drama happening. Tetsuo must die! That'll get the fans talking, unless it's too late. Quote
*Jess♥ Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 ehm, I don't think that's what I was alluding to... there could be some truth in that, to a point. I mean, we have a shared interest in kamen rider and other similar heroes. and these do cross over a fair bit in their thematic content. whilst our main focus is the guyver, a lot of us also have a wider focus on kamen rider and super sentai, and while we would not likely come here *just* to discuss those, it is a nice and relevant segue from guyver. after all, we did have another project for a while, fan-subbing the super sentai series 'hurricanger'. it wasn't the most successful project, but it would have been another focus of the site if we had continued it. also, there is durendal's project toku wiki. I think many people visit to read that. although I wish some of those people would join up and talk to us a bit. that's an interesting way to look at how community works. they are here, but they are silent. edit: then there is my naruto kai project. it is stalled at the moment while I try and get my life in order, but that is also another draw. not really an armoured legend... not sure about how that works.. well no point worrying over it. *YoungGuyver Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Instead of worrying about community, why not consider family? Well, family may be too strong, as I'd say we are more a group of friends and brothers. A Clique maybe? Peers? An Openly exclusive club? I don't need to hang around with a million people to be happy. I just need a million or so people to see my work. RHM (You'll all understand later) 1 Quote
