Guest Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Star Ocean TTEOT. Has come out and it is such a joy to play. I have spent 20 hrs playing it and I am still in chapter 2. If you haven't played and/or bought it do so now. I want to here impressions and opinions of Star Ocean. Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 I played the second star ocean and thought it was pretty good, This one I deffinately wanna get... wonder fi there will be any mention of the characters from SO2, cause in SO2 they mention that claude's (main guy) dad was one of the characters from the first star ocean. Quote
Guest Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 No mention of the character you are talking about. Then again I am still in chapter two so maybe. [Edit] You can see a review of Star Ocean 3 here. http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/536705.asp Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I just got this game, and it makes mention of Star Ocean 2 in the instruction booklet, on the first page (with the contents) the first paragraph which states "Twelve heroes thwarted the Ten Wise Men's plot to destroy the univers. Four Hundred years have since passed...." Since IO have played the second one, this comment stood out to me, The Ten Wise Men were the main bosses in the second game. I just got it so I'm like 4 hours in, I just got to the second planet (not counting the one you start the game on). Quote
*Jess♥ Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I started on this game and i love it! I love the anime feel and the battles are great the way you can smash the bad guys yourself! The characters are so lovable and the story is very involving. I do however find it a little annoying that sometimes you need to speak to every character before you can continue. Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 you dont HAVE to in the beginning, later on you can, in the first part of the game i just talked to pepiota, played the battle sim, and the attack happened. didnt need to talk to your parentws on the beach. Personally, my favorite Race is the foxtails. I restarted the game and found out i missed a special item on the first planet. I have a question, does anyone know how to open the door in the front of the castle? (the one that says that the keyhole's been destroyed) cause I know there are items in there and i want them! also, can you get the item chest on the other side of the broken bridge? Quote
Guest Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 I have beaten the game and I have to say. You will not believe the twists and turns the story takes untill you see it yourself. Oh and drag5 is talking about cirtain parts of the game where you have to talk to everyone before you can progress with the story. Though it is true you do not have to talk to everyone in the very beggining. Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 the feature i gotta like the most is the event skip, if you see a certain event, then you get killed, you can just skip it since you know whatt hey are going to talk about anyway. I gotta tell you, the mine's between ariglyph(?) and Aprias were a pain in the butt to go through, my hauler thing kept croaking. Quote
Guest Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Yeah I gotta agree with you on thar WarriorZoalord event skip is a great feature esspcially if you are pressed for time. But lets move on to the fighting aspect. My favorite is Crosell hard as hell but rewarding to beat you have to fight him twice. Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 That rock boss thing in the mines is rather familiar for those who got to the last battle in the simulator at the beginning of the game. so theres another boss you face twice. I find the fury system interesting, since you can guard only when you have 100%, so you gotta stand stll and hope they do a weak attack.... that sounds like a disadvantage to me. Quote
Guest Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 I've seen this at K-mart and I've been tempted to put it on Layby as I can't afford to pay for a brand spankin new game -_- So, whats game play like, how good is the character development and being a Square Enix game, how does it rank to other games buy Square Enix and Square Soft? Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Hmm, hard to explain, but as compaired to the other star ocean games, which were made by enix, its pretty good, it has the FF kinda feep to the game, the mini map seems to have evolved from the FFX and FFX-2 mini map, while you level up you also get skill points which you can put to use further boosting the HP, MP, attack, or defense stats, the battle systems a 3D Real time battle system, meaning the AI controls the characters you are not when your in battle, plus later in the game you can have inventors and stuff who can create and enhance items (akin to the synthisizing of items in FF IX.), and if you create an item that isn't normally in the stores, you can patent it and make it available to buy. As for Character Developement, they have a lot of cut-scenes that talk about vasrious game things, and characters, at least you can skip through them if your playing through them more than once say if you die after seeing one but forgot to save you can skip through it since you know it. graphics are great, sound quality is good overall I give it a 9.9 on my RPG-O-Meter just because they got rid of a few secondary skills that you used to beable to learn in the second which enhanced your characters in different areas, like HP or MP regen with each successful hit on the enemy, or improving accuracy for long ranged weapons. Guest Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Hmm, sounds interesting, but I hate Real Time battle systems I perfer turn base Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 The Battle system of The Bouncer (another Square game, for the PS2) was real time, so was the battle system of the second star ocean game. Personally I think Teal time is better than turn based, because you can stop spells from being cast by smacking the spell caster with a major attack before the spell gets done. Though I think you should rent it before buying it if you dont like the RTBS. Quote

Guest Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 I have to warn you Riven the game starts off slow, but after about 3-4 hours into the game things pick up fast. Your most daunting task will be leveling up. You can not just pop into a boss fight you have to prepare and be ready for the fight or you will die. Quote
Guest Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 Oh and you will notice the towns and villages are very pretty. Okay given what has been said here, I would recomend that you rent the game before buying it. Quote
WarriorZoalord Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 Weltall, the only time i spent leveling up was in the forest before going to norton's castle, after that it's been smooth sailing for me. Quote
Guest Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Warrior I was refering more towards the middle to end of the game once you get to a point it starts taking longer to level up so as long as you manage your time well and plan in advance in leveling up you shouldn't face too many problems. Quote
