Guest Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 This trip was great! I simply loved it this year! First off, we're driving into Edmonton. Jon and Issac are in the back seat with the map, trying to figure out how to get us to Cynthia's address for the hotel. Issac's like, "how do we read this thing?" Jon goes, "Oh god, what are all these squigly lines in the center?" Issac says, "Let's just ignore all the angles" Ally and I completely cracked up at the way those two read maps. It took us about two hours of driving around to find the hotel. Then again, once double checking Cyn's address, it's important to remember the distinction between a 'street', and an 'avenue'. The anime convention was great! This was the first year that they actually asked you to pay for the event, and that itself was voluntary. Anyone that did was given a priority pass that bumped us up to the head of every line, and let us get into the dealers room TWO Hours before everyone else. The martial arts demo was kind of bland, it took them a few times to get into it. I'm told the Yaoi panel was good, and for the first time I have been bare witness to the train wreck that is 'live action sailor moon' (Everyone was laughing every time Tuxedo Mask did a bishi pose). And I must say, they showed live action GTO, and it was beyond excellent, far surpassed the anime. Our passes got us into the cosplay room (the room was full, and the extra had to be sent to the cosplay simulcast room). The people with martial arts skits were all right (not as good as last year's Kenshin, and Aya from Weiss Cruz). This year was the year of Cross play. The sailor moon singers kept us entertained while the judges made decisions, (though Mike wasn't as convincing a girl this year). My absolute favorate just might be the girls dressed as the final fantasy charactors Squall, Cloud, and Vincent (Vincent looks really cute in a skirt). This years cosplay was great laughs and everything. All in all, everything was good. I only found two guyver items, but surprisingly a few Zim plushies (I got a Gir). I was kinda hoping to see Matt and other there, but meh, maybe next year. Quote

Matt Bellamy Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Damn work! >_< I really wanted to go, but work and money restraints were a big problem once again. Looks like you had a good time anyway, so that's good. Quote
Guest Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Yep, I took pictures. I still need to develope some, and I don't have the connector for the ones on my phone yet. The anime alberta forum has some posted now. Hey Matt, we've really gotta get you to one of these, maybe we can get Mark Nguyen to do the cosplay on a dare thing again (hehe-we can be so evil). Of coarse, after Rune Venus, he might be a little wary Quote

Animethon though, is much bigger than Otafest no doubt. Would have been nice to go. Although, we are having an "Anime Alberta" get together here in Calgary on August 14/15th. Maybe you should come on up for the sunday. The all you can eat suchi restuarant ( $20 for 2 hours of UNLIMITED food) we're going to is great. At least then I'd have someone to talk to, someone at least that shares a common intrest or two ^_~ Quote

Ally and I will be heading up to Calgary either sometime tommorow night, or very early Saturday morning. We kind of need something though.... EMAIL. Um, if we're doing this sushi thing, where are we meeting? are we gonna do some Zim or anything? I could bring my new Guyver manga. What's your phone number? (I lost that last one in the paperwork of my office a LOOOONG time ago) Quote
