well i kind of know where you are coming from the thing is that i think we can forget how special a relationship like this can be, i mean when you analyse it, there are different sorts of friendships, not all of them are so strong or 'real'... out of 7 billion people if we can find someone we truly get on with, respect and trust it is truly a gift, so why shoud you ignore it or not want to make it as perfect as possible. if you still find each other attractive i suppose romance would be the 'cherry on the cake'.... i hope it works out for you, whatever happens
