*PrimalNemesis Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I have a question for those who've been keeping tabs on Dragon Ball Super. What do you think of the whole universal tournament thing? Do you like the idea? Do you like the new fighters brought in by Champa? Have you been following the anime or manga version? Are transformations allowed in the tournament? I remember reading in the manga that they were not allowed. If this is the case why is Frost allowed to transform along with Goku? Is Super Saiyan Blue allowed? Quote
Shin Mefilas Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Its been ok so far but it could have been done a little better. The idea is great. I like Champa's fighters, yes even Botamo (I just wish he had been a bit stronger and had a good fight). Both manga and anime. Yes transformations are aloud as far as I know (will have to double check), the only rules I'm aware of are the normal ones. No killing, no weapons, win by knock out or ring out, 5 man teams elimination, king of the hill style rules and no monsters. Super Saiyan Blue is aloud but its likely that Goku is holding it back, both to insure his fights aren't over too quickly and not to play all his cards at once. Quote
RazorLaser Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I watched the first 3 episodes, but stopped because I was sick of waiting a week for another episode (I already do that with too many shows as it is). I said I'd watch it when it builds up, but then I started rewatching DBZ from the beginning, so when I finish that - I'll watch Super! But I've been kind of following the story anyway. I've been reading the DB Multiverse fan comic for a couple of years now... and from what I've heard, it's actually better than Super... http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/chapters.html Quote
Shin Mefilas Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) Dragon Ball Multivers is good but I don't feel its better then super. My main problem with it and other fan works is that they make the series far more serious then it should be. DBM isn't so bad but it's had its moments. What I'm mean by this is that something is almost always missing, to me at least. Its that underlying Toriyama silliness and nonsensicalness, as well as his spontaneous ability of his to bring stuff right out of left field. The fan works are in my opinion too perfect and loose what made them special. The easiest way I can say it is that we and the world have matured but the series hasen't, yes it has it darker moments they have never had the twisted complexity of other manga of this type have. This is because dragon ball is now quite old and its style is simplistic, outdated and nonsensical to a degree. Demanding it change to suit us as as we are know will only cheapen it. The overall plot has changed and matured in its on way, you would never get such a morally ambiguous character like Beerus in the old days but its still has that outdated and nonsensical style at the core of story telling that makes DB what it is. I dont recommend just watching Z, if your gonna prepare yourself for Super start at the very beginning and watching Dragon Ball in it's entirety. Edited March 17, 2016 by Prometheus Guyver Quote
