Shin Mefilas Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) Ok so due to university and illness I have been sourly neglecting my Go Nagai manga translation updates. Today I finally decided to get back into it and found that I have missed a lot. The Biggest being the release of this series. So I'll give some backstory here. Spoilers Warning. Devilman I've talked about him in great length before so I'll keep this beef. Devilman was once a normal boy Akira who was posessed by the great demon Amon while trying to help his friend Ryo, Ryo due to an incident with his father learned that ancient demons from prehistoric times awakening and going to retake the world. Akira is able prevail over Amon's mind and take control of the new fused body, becoming Devilman. At first Devilman's fight is in the shadows but as time passes the demons make themselves know, primarily to spread fear and paranoia among the humans race, intending to make us destroy ourselves. It is also reviled that Ryo is actually the angel Satan, lord of the demons who betrays Akira and informs the world that he is Devilman. As things go from bad to worse Devilman fights the demons as best he can while gathering other devilmen like himself. However things take a turn for the absolute worst as Akira's foster family, friends and his love Miki are all murdered by humans. After this Devilman, who had turned his back on the demons, know also turns his back on humanity as well. He then leads his devilmen army to fight the demons. It is also at this time that we learn that Satan, who is an hermaphrodite, had fallen in love with Akira, had turned him into Devilman after falling in love with him and wanting to protect him and may have put Miki's life in danger out of jealousy. The war rages on for years resulting in the death of all the demons and devilmen and has effectively laid waste to the entire earth. Devilman is defeated and Satan is left alone realising that he was no better then the god he had betrayed so long ago and that all his actions have done is destroy the world he/she has tried to protect. Satan is left alone weeping as God and his angels return. Since the completion of Devilman their have been many tie-in stories, squeals and retellings (not only of Devilman but also its tie-ins) even to this very day. As a result their is no solid cannon to the events after this story and All I can say is that you can thing of all these stories being cannon in a multiverse that was spawned at the end of the original Devilman. In this story it is never out right stated that Devilman was killed by Satan but the events leading to their final battle are the same and Devilman still lost. Hades Now I bet I know what your all thinking. What the hell dose the greek god of the underworld have to do with the very christian themed Devilman? Then answer? Nothing what so ever but he dose have something with Devilman's sibling series Mazinger Z and its squeal Great Mazinger. Turns out that Hades is the true identity of the Emperor of Darkness, the ultimate evil of entire the Mazinger series and most of its tie-ins! He is the ruler of the Mycenae Empire. They were once a powerful military force from ancient times until they were driven underground, specifically below Bardos. The members of the empire vary by size, appearance, and personnel. The Warrior Beasts and the generals are all massive cyborgs. Doctor Hell, the original big bad in the first arc of the story created his Mechanical monsters and weapons by reverse engineering mycenae technology. The empires origins change from story to story, in some versions they are an ancient race that has always been on earth while in others they are alien invaders. Their relationship with Hell also changes, in the original version he is an ally with them (in reality they see him as a pawn) and asks for their help now and then despite planning to rule the world himself. In other he is aware of them and plans to use their technology and photon energy against them. Either way hell almost always ends up dyeing and sometimes getting lucky enough to be resurrected as a mycenae warrior beast. Due to events in the story its clear that Devilman vs Hades takes place either during the Great Mazinger story or in a version of it. Hades himself is not a very intimidating figure. Its not that he's not scary, smart, powerful or dangerus, Its just that like a lot of Go Nagai big bads, he never leaves his base or takes any active role in the plot passed bossing his minions around. This is something almost all the go nagai villains sufferd from back in their 70's cartoon and old Hades is the only one who never got off his ass for the longest time (as far as I know), constant to be nothing more then huge scowling ball of fire in any of his incarnations manga or anime. The only being to surpass him in this reguard is Devilman's Lord Zenon who has only even engaged in ONE fight since his creation in 1972! (once again as far as I know). Hades finially got of his ass and went toe-to-toe with Zeus in the Shin Mazinger anime and really started smashing skulls in Super Robot Wars Z. So what the heck is going on here? Well turns out that in this story all of the souls of those who died during Devilman's fight with Satan have gone to the underworld and into Hades's care. Yeah turns out Hades is actually the bonafide God of the Dead and only a Mazinger villain in his spare time, which would really go a long way to explaining why he doesn't just walk up to the Photon Power and Science Fortress Laboratories and start laying a godly smackdown on Z and Great. Well Devilman has somehow (might be explained in the story) found out about the greek version of the underworld being an actually place, that the souls are there and then manages to go there with the intent of getting Hades to resurrect Miki. Needless to say Hades could not care less and Devilman is not asking.......the fight is own. So far its a very interesting story, its nowhere near as blunt or as simple as I've made it sound. Also rather digging Hades's new look. Edited September 15, 2016 by The Cyber-Controller Quote
H222G981 Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I have no clue. But if I were a betting man, I'd put money on Hades. Quote
