Guest Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Before we start cahting I have a gripe about one of my classes. Okay I admit I like history. However I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, and I draw it at industrialization. Even my teacher admits it is boring and involves more time than it merits. Frankly I want to go back in time and kill Vanderbilt and the rest of the industrial Barons for creating the boring history that is Industrialization. Anyone else take American History II. Wel at the most I have two more weeks of industrialization and then we start moving on to the juicier parts like the Spanish American war, WW I, WW II, the Korean war, and Vietnam. Come on I know there are History buffs here. We should chat about history Allright First topic World War I. Alright WWI in my opinion proved how foolish and stupid alliances between countries can be. Lets look at what triggered World War I Prince Ferdinands Assassination by Serbia. this in turn caused Austria's Ally Germany to get involved, this inturn causes Serbia to seek assistance from it's ally Russia. From here it becomes a fight between the "Allies" consisting of Britain, France, Begium, pretty much every European country aside from the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, and Turkey). My country the U.S. is pretty much the Arms dealer to both sides of the equation. Only towards the end does the U.S. pick a side and they side with the Allies. Often times I call the next war 'WW II' World War I Part II because it is a direct cause of the treaty brokered at the armistice. The infamous Treaty of Versialle(sp). So anyone else have any input. Guest Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 WWI: New and improved weapons of war and centuries old battle tactics. Definately not a good combination in any respect, it was a war of attrition by it's end. Endless cratered fields as far as the eye could see; stained with blood, and littered with the bones of the dead. A tragic way for the world to move twords it's future, and a waste of lives. As a side note: Has anyone else noticed that the US seems ( it averages out ) to have a "Conflict" (I won't say war cause that's not politically correct.) every 20 years or so? Quote
