Several of you may remember a thread I had running several months ago, where I had been playing with a new Guyver concept and decided to start a fanfic based in the WG universe that I entitled "The Proteus Saga". After a start of sorts, I sorta ran out of steam when it came to writing the first combat scene.

Well, I'm looking at picking it up once again, starting afresh with a new beginning. The crux, however, lies in just what sort of niche I want to try and fill with the main character, and how I want the story to progress. So, mostly out of curiosity, I have some things that I'd like folks to mull over and answer, if you're all willing to do so.

Should this be set in the WG universe, or set in a similar (yet different) universe? If I go with an alternative universe... well, that's something I probably should ask Sully about, since the one that appeals to me to try and utilize (with his permission) would be the one from "Strange Worlds", where Chronos was in complete control and Fiona was found alive and became the Female Warrior Guyver before returning to the"prime Earth" (for lack of a better term) with Jason. If I stick with the WG universe proper, on the other hand, I have the benefit of having the first four installments already plotted out and just waiting on me to write it up. Of course, I have a kernel of an idea in mind for my own universe in the making, but it's something where it would make the most sense to start in the WG universe and then move into the new universe and go with the action there.

With that in mind, I want to also share this: the new beginning of "The Proteus Saga", as it were. It does, given some of the names mentioned, have a setting in the WG universe, but it is something that can be tweaked if I go with an alternative route. Read on, and enjoy.

=============================================================

It began more than two million years ago, a simple experiment by an advanced alien conglomerate known simply as the Creators to see if a human being could feasibly pilot one of their ships once bonded with a device they called the Unit-G, and in the process add them to their collective as warriors alongside their Zoalords and Zoanoids. Instead of the success they had hoped for, it almost ended there, with the Creators abandoning their seed world of Earth because of the potential rogue nature of the Unit-G and a human host... becoming, in effect, an entity that could only be described as the ultimate warrior. They called it guyver, out of control, and washed their hands of Earth.

Then, two hundred thousand years later, the Creators returned, beginning their experiments once again, attempting the creation of a more powerful Unit-G that would allow them to defend themselves against threats from within and without. Different Unit-Gs were created, with different projects named after them to signify their purpose... the Kavzar project... the Nova project... the Warrior project.

The unthinkable then occurred: a Zoalord activated a Unit-G. Going rogue, this Guyver Zoalord managed to single-handedly annihilate the majority of the Creators? defenses before a Warrior Guyver from the future was thrown back in time, and managed to defeat and then destroy the Guyver Zoalord. Of course, this was enough for the Creators. Abandoning Earth once again, the Creators retreated to the confines of their Empire, continuing their research as well as creating a new humanoid race that would become their army: the Kavzar, with their Aceaer-Caste, Kavzar warriors and commanders, and even their most powerful creations, the Enforcer Kavzar.

Time passed, and the thoughts concerning Earth faded into obscure memory by many of the Creators. However, there was still one who remembered...
