Anyone here who loves giant bots has heard of these awesome games that most of us will never get a chance to play.

Well I have some very good news, SRW V will have english subs and text allowing all of us to control an army of real and super robots!

Also in this game we will be able to play as something scarier the a berserk Eva Unit-01, Mazinger Zero, The Ultimate Devil!

Ugh, way tooo many Gundam series.

I usually base my judgement on getting a SRW game based on the series involved... Which was great for the GBA/DS games because they were all standalone stories. Hard to say if this will be like the Alpha series and be part of a bigger story... But this one has too many I either don't care about, or are sick of seeing.

I'm thinking of getting the SRW OG The Moon Dwellers, simply because it is the OG cast and not relying on series I don't care about ( even if it doesn't use the originals from SRW W yet)

Generally surprised to see Might Gaine though.

Though I do like what Bandai/Namco is doing with the Asian releases, and giving them english translations. I picked up the Asian release for Gundam Breaker 3, and it was pretty well done. They aren't going to be perfect of course. There will definitely still be a lot of awkward sounding sentences... But with the menu's, attacks, items etc... all translated as well, it will still be easily playable.

But I am definitely either meh or sick of over half the cast in this one. English or not, I think I will pass.

Yeah I have to agree its kind of a Gundam fest. I proffered the Z series as it had a lot of Super Robots in it, which I honestly prefer over real bots (I have never watched a single episode of  any Gundam).

I mean they didn't just has Go Nagai's robots and Evas but Big O, Godmars, Daiguard etc. However I will still get the game in hopes that they will make more with english subs and better rosters.

Also I believe Akito Tenkawa from Martian Successor Nadesico is in this game. Thats one of the few real robot shows I have ever watched and liked. It dose help it also has super bots in it too.

Actually, it's got some decent number of supers... the problem is, Gundam series have so many units, it kind of overshadows the supers a bit... Even if the supers are much better individual units... Some combo attacks are too good to use ( I remember using the 3 females from Nadesico a lot, because of a team attack they could do, that all could be used 3 times because of the 3 units). But it does have at least 2 of the basics... A Mazinger and a Getter team.

And yeah, they are using the Nadesico "Prince of Darkness" movie for this one. So Akito and the girls will return no doubt, as well as Ruri and it's original characters... Though Akito probably won't be playable until near the end of the game depending how they handle the story of Prince of Darkness.

Wow, I guess I'm not the only one into SRW.  But will this prompt me to finally buy a PS4?  Not sure yet.   And even if it has too much gundam, I don't mind, I never use any of the Gundam except for Nu Gundam and Z Gundam anyways.  The rest are just cannon fodders for me.  It's actually the story that interests me and how they mash up the different plots together.  Perhaps the story won't be centered around the Gundam and the Go Nagai universe.  Additionally, I've been really out of the loop for SRW, but since the death of Hirotaka Suzuoki, I guess they needed a new Captain, hence I'm guessing the inclusion of Yamato.  Well, at least the Ahgama can retire now.

It's funny, for me, despite the fact I know I'd probably enjoy it still... Cast list is a big thing for me.

That's why I own physical copies of SRW W and K for my DS. Loved the majority of the cast, and still have no translations.

I'm still pondering this one... Part of me is still saying " DO IT. IT'LL BE IN ENGLISH YOU FOOL! DO EEEEEET!"

But I guess I will have time to see how good a translation the OG Moon Dwellers gets. Maybe it'll be so bad I won't care. Or so good that it will be the tipping point.

It doesn't look too bad of a design... And is about time. Mazinkaiser is quite old now, and Great Mazinger hasn't had a style upgrade at all, and has essentially been the same since it's original appearance.

I guess it was always seen already as an "Upgrade to the main character" despite being piloted by someone different, that when they did upgrades, Only Kyoji got them, or a new unit was created (Grendizer).

The one time I remember it getting an "upgrade" was during the Mazinkaiser OAV... And it was only a "Finished" version of Great Mazinger that was tuned up and more powerful... But looked exactly the same.

Yeah I think it was called True Great Mazinger and had blue arms and legs like its old original anime version. From what I remember Kaiser's Great was originally a copy based on designs that had been found and True Great has been sealed away and found like Mazinkaiser.

Your right about the robots, unlike Getter and the other series, Mazinger got a new robot and pilot every new series. Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger then Grendizer. Grendizer while its own robot was part of the Mazin team and normally interacted with them as did its pilot Duke Fleed. Mazinkaiser Skull has its own, two man, team.

As it stands I think Kouji has Mazinger Z, Mazinkaiser, Mazinger Zero and Shin Mazinger Z. Tetsuya had Great Mazinger and only that for a very long time with the only upgrade being the aforementioned True Great, however is Zero he got Great Mazinkaiser as Great possessed the same abilities as Z to a lesser extent. There was also Ashura Mazinger from Mazinkaiser and there have been two Devil Mazinger in old SRW manga from what I've heard anyway.

Great was originally going to get the Shin upgrade but the studio that did Shin went bankrupt so only artwork exists.

Part of the problem with Great is that none liked it when the series first aired, everyone had grown to like Kouji and they were really upset that he got replaced and Mazinger Z got destroyed by the new bad guys. Also Tetsuya was not quite as good a character as Kouji ether nor was he as good a pilot. Great Mazinger was badly damaged in almost every episode because while Tetsuya was an ace pilot in jets and used the ranged weapons well, its clear the guy had no experience piloting a robot as the second he got into melee combat he'd get his ass kicked. The guy would often just use Great's swords as throwing weapons. It was not until Kouji came back and Tetsuya had him to bounce off of that the character started getting more well liked.

I'm not too familiar with the series myself but I have played a few of the other Super Robot Taisen games. I assume they're in the same league though, hence the name. Does one need to necessarily follow the series in chronological order to play these games?

It looks really awesome but I don't have PS4 or PS Vita. I was interested a few years back in the Super Robot Wars game for PSP but I can't remember what that one was called.

Is this derived from an anime of sorts? I know I see a few familiar mechs in the game such as Gundams and those robots from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I tried a few of the Super Robot games for the GBA a long while back. If I remember correctly only two of those were made in English, and the rest were never fully translated. A pity though because I believe it's Super Robot Taisen R that had some of my favorite characters, from the anime Mobile Fighter G Gundam. I could never find a fully English patch for that game to play it on my emulator. :(

They are of the same series, Taisen is an offshoot with its own original mechs. SRW is very long running series with not only a lot of games to its name but also many separate series within itself.

Basically SRW is a gigantic cross-over franchise that has had almost every popular super robot and real mech that has ever existed in it at one point or another. The stores are are usually consist of unique over arcing stories that tie in events from the super robot and real mech's shows/mangas. Each new series tends to be self contained so you can play the SRW Alpha series or the SRW Z series and not need  too much info as long as you start from the first game in that sub-series, which normally has introduction stories for most of the caste. However I will say that it never hurts just to run a quick crash course on the series to catch yourself up on some basic info.

What would you suggest? Simply begin playing the series from the very first game onward. :o

You mentioned the video game having its own mechs, but isn't there a Super Robot Wars anime? Where many of those original characters are featured. Like Axel and his mech Soulgate along that one guy and his mech that has a knuckle gatling gun. Damn I can't remember any of their names anymore. I bought the Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2 and that's about as far as the knowledge I posses on this goes, lol. Tried a few of the other GBA versions (A, R, D, and J) though. They're all incredibly fun but hard as hell.

Nothing that mind-boggling. What I mean is of any individual properties that are used to make up the game, for example if you didn't know about Evas or Gundams, go look them up so you not totally clueless.

From what I know V is a new series so just start with that. Any other game you might be interested in find the fist in its Sub-line.

Here's a full list of all the games ever made - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Robot_Wars_video_games

As you can see the first game was a pure cross-over and thats the foundation of the series however a number of original mech games have came out afterwards.

As I understand it some Taisen's mech all turned up in prior games and were brought together for that game. Unfortunately I do not know many of the mechs by name as I got into the series through Super Robots like Mazinger Z and Getter Robo. While I've picked up some info I'm no expert.  The best thing I can do is pull up a wiki I ran into, not perfect but not a bad place to start. http://superrobotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

My main games are the Z2 series as I got emulators, menu translations and story guides. I did however emulate the original Taisen but some computer trouble at the time totaled its files and I never got round to replacing it.

However all that said I do know the gatling mech you speak of as it was one of the few real mechs that made a lasting impression.

A mech that may interest you from the Z2 series (and also another of the few real mechs to leave a lasting impression on yours truly) is Brasts.

Every SRW game has an "Original" with it's own set of enemies that are usually the final boss. The games usually revolve around their plot while making the different Anime series plots are mashed into that.

The "Original" only series is the one that got the 2 Anime series ( and OAV). They are games that only use the "Originals" from previous games and put them in their own universe, without any license Anime influence. So the plots are reset, and you don't need to have played the older games because the series shows off everyone really well. The GBA version of these both got released in english... Though OG1 is a chore to play because of the aged mechanics, but OG2 is a lot better overall... of course they are linked stories so it helps to play both =P

If you're looking to play a simple straight forward SRW, SRW J was fully fan translated and the GBA ROM can be found pretty easily. On the plus side, it has a pretty good cast of shows including G Gundam, Tekkaman Blade and the anime version of Hades Project Zeorymer (originally created by Yoshiki Takaya himself) and is the last GBA game. It is also  the "First" of the really popular portable standalone SRW's to do away with traditional series and try new things ( ie, no U.C. Gundam or Getter Robo).

My personal favorite is SRW W... The first DS SRW game. Despite no actual translation, there was only like 2 series I hadn't watched, while everything else was a personal favorite... so I figured most of it out by myself until a mission by mission story guide was created. ^_^
